Family of Chicago Woman and Unborn Child Killed By Planned Parenthood Abortionist Files Suit

The family of a 24-year-old Chicago woman who died in July along with her second trimester baby during an abortion procedure at Planned Parenthood has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the abortion giant.

Dorsey Jones says that Planned Parenthood’s Loop Health Center, located at 18 South Michigan Avenue in Chicago, was careless in properly treating her daughter as she lay bleeding for hours on an operating table.

Tonya Reaves, who was a mother to a 1-year-old and engaged to be married, died at a local hospital on July 20th from complications resulting from her abortion. While undergoing a dilation and extraction procedure, in which the woman’s cervix is dilated and the baby is dismembered piece by piece with forceps, Reaves began to hemorrhage. According to reports, Planned Parenthood did not call 911 for assistance, but rather waited five and a half hours before transporting her to the hospital.

When Reaves arrived at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, doctors analyzed the woman’s condition, and determined that she had undergone an incomplete abortion. They finished removing the body parts of her preborn baby, and then realized that Reaves was suffering from a uterine perforation that was causing her to bleed to death.

At that point, doctors took steps to try to save Reaves’ life, but it was too late. She was pronounced dead at 11:20 p.m.

Jones has included Northwestern Memorial Hospital in her wrongful death lawsuit. She seeks retribution in the amount of $120,000, which includes payment to Reaves’ 1-year-old son Alvin for the loss of his mother.

“Once abortion businesses get the money and kill the baby, they are essentially done with the woman. If she happens to have complications, they blame her,”  Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue and Pro-Life Nation, commented. “Planned Parenthood and its abortionist need to be held fully accountable for the death of Reaves.”

According to records obtained by Newman’s organization, Planned Parenthood staff called 311 earlier in the day as Reaves lay bleeding in an operating room — but not to obtain help for the punctured woman. Instead, the phone call was placed regarding a 16-year-old girl that was allegedly assaulted by her mother inside the facility. The 311 operator then transferred the call to 911, who then admonished the Planned Parenthood employee that she needed to call 911 directly in the event of an emergency so as to not waste time.

However, 911 was never contacted regarding the serious complications that Reaves’ was suffering.

“This information shows gross negligence in the way Planned Parenthood managed Reaves medical emergency. Delays in getting her the care she needed were intentional. It crosses the line into what is likely criminal conduct,” said Cheryl Sullenger, Senior Policy Advisor for Operation Rescue. “We renew our call for a criminal investigation into Reaves’ death. If those responsible are not brought to justice, it is only a matter of time before another woman suffers Tonya’s tragic fate.”

Similarly, Florida Republican Representative Cliff Stearns, who launched a congressional probe into Planned Parenthood earlier this year, stated that he would like to specifically question employees of the Loop Health Center in Chicago.

“I would like to put [Planned Parenthood] under oath,” he explained. “I would like to find out how they spend our half a billion dollars, and I would also like to explore some of the safety aspects, particularly in light of this death [and] this tragedy.”

He advised that all he has received from Planned Parenthood as a result of his probe are thousands of documents that are irrelevant to his investigation.
