Islamists Plan ‘Million Muslim March’ in Nation’s Capital on September 11th

CongressWASHINGTON, D.C. – An Islamic activist group is planning to hold a “Million Muslim March” this year on the 12th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks.

The American Muslim Political Action Committee (AMPAC)—an organization that strives to “stimulate an active interest in Muslim Americans relating to Political and Governmental affairs”—recently announced plans for a large Muslim rally in Washington, D.C., next month. Scheduled for September 11th, the “Million Muslim March” is being advertised as a “historic event” for “establishing the humanity and justice through civil rights.”

“We at AMPAC are planning an historic event for 9.11.13 where one million Muslims will march to Washington D.C. and demand that our civil rights be protected by our government,” a recent announcement on the Muslim organization’s website states.

“We are demanding that laws be enacted protecting our 1st Amendment,” the announcement continues. “We are asking President Obama to fulfill his promise from his first campaign for Presidency of a transparent government. Lastly, we are asking for the release of the 9/11 commission report to the American people.”

The AMPAC statement also alleges that Muslims are continually “victimized” and “made the villains” for the September 11th terrorist attacks, while “every media outlet and anti-Islamic organization has committed slanderous and libel statements against us as Muslims and our religion of Islam.”

“These lies told to the American population has made it impossible for us to do true Dawa [Islamic proselytization],” the announcement claims. “Why do we have to defend our religion while doing Dawa? Why can’t we just share the perfection of the Quran and the beauty of our beloved Prophet Muhammad?”

AMPAC leaders generally believe that the U.S. is responsible for provoking recent terrorist attacks and ill will toward America. In a blog post earlier this year, Isa Hodge—project manager of the Million Muslim March—condemned the United States’ overseas War on Terror as a “needless, unjustified and immoral” war “based on propaganda and false evidence” that has led to “the impoverishment of people throughout our nation as well as those devastated in the war zone.”

“The real 9/11 truth,” Hodge writes, “is that our country needs to look in the mirror and reflect on our policy of occupation, domination, exploitation and intimidation that we practice throughout the world, helping the nation to seriously discus [sic] the violence of our own policy that leads so many around the world to hate us and to contemplate acts of violence.”

Now that news of the planned march has reached the general public, many have expressed shock at AMPAC’s choice of date.

“The date you’ve chosen for your march defeats the purpose of your march,” one individual posted on a website comment thread. “The date is antagonistic, you have to know that.”

Another person suggested that the march on 9/11 will be “insulting” to the thousands who died on that date twelve years ago.

“Clearly AMPAC is being purposely insensitive and attempting to provoke people by selecting 9-11 as a day of protest,” the individual wrote. “By doing so and simultaneously claiming their rights that our constitution provides, they are making a mockery of our rights and system of government. They are using our own first amendment in order to protest in a way that is insulting to those who died in 9-11.”
