‘The Blessing of Choice’: Activist Leads Prayer at Iowa Capitol Thanking God for Abortion

Iowa abortion ytDES MOINES — Video footage of an Iowa abortion activist thanking God for ‘the blessing of choice’ in a 5-minute pro-abortion prayer has gone viral, disgusting and shocking many of its viewers.

Approximately 50 abortion supporters are stated to have joined in the prayer held at the Iowa State Capitol Building on Wednesday, including Democratic gubernatorial candidates Jack Hatch and Tyler Olson. The event was held prior to a hearing regarding web cam abortions, and is thought to perhaps serve as a counter to a pro-life prayer gathering also taking place in the vicinity.

Des Moines abortion activist Midge Slater helmed the prayer, which she appeared to read from a written statement.

“We give thanks, O Lord, for the doctors both current and future who provide quality abortion care,” she said. “We pray for the 45 million American women who have had safe and legal abortions. May they stand tall and refuse shame.”

“We pray for our elected officials that they may always support a woman’s right to to make our own medical decisions,” Salter continued. “Today, we pray for better access to all forms of birth control. … We pray for increased financial support for low income women to access contraception, abortion and child care.”

Slater then began to ask God for an increase in abortion access overseas.

“Today, we pray for women in developing nations that they may know the power of self-determination. May they have access to employment, education, birth control and abortion,” she entreated. “We give thanks for the strong women in our lives who have given us examples of good decision making.”

She also cut against the beliefs of those who promote motherhood, opining that it is done so out of a fear of the might of women.

“We pray for women that remain afraid of their own power by their own maternalistic religion,” Slater said. “May they learn to reject fear.”

“Today, we pray that all women will know that they are created in the image of God–good and holy, moral and wise,” she continued. “We pray for the end of all discrimination against women [and] we pray for an end to the stigma against women who have abortions.”

Slater proceeded to praise abortion and those who have ended the lives of the unborn.

“Today, we pray for the families who have chosen; may they know the blessing of choice,” she declared. “We give thanks and celebrate that abortion is still safe and legal.”

“And finally, O Lord, we pray that we will practice what we preach, that we will never forget the passion and the commitment we feel today, inspired by our understanding of your message,” Slater concluded, then quoting the lyrics of a song about the Creator, replacing the word He with she. “Let us continue in that dance for justice. So be it.”

The video, which has received over 32,000 hits in less than a week, has generated much outrage from viewers.

“This is the most disgusting ‘prayer’ I’ve ever heard,” wrote one commenter. “They’re definitely not praying to the God of the Bible!”

“Prayer to satan maybe,” said another. “He is the master deceiver, liar and of [lover of] death. They are following in his footsteps. … For we shall know them by their fruits.”

“Any person that would celebrate the slaughter of 45 million unborn children is mind boggling,” opined a third viewer. “Our country is doomed if this is the new norm and it clearly exposes the pathetic nature of the Democratic Party.”

Some also noted that as Slater thanked God for abortion, a baby began to cry in the background.
