Restaurateur Sentenced to Nine Years Behind Bars for Slipping Girlfriend Abortion Drug

Woodward-compressedNEW YORK — A former famed restaurateur has been sentenced to nine years behind bars for slipping his girlfriend an abortion drug, resulting in the death of their unborn child.

Gail Greaves was 39 years old and 13 weeks pregnant when Joshua Woodward, the owner of the restaurant Table 8, with locations in both New York and California, secretly administered the drug on three separate occasions. Greaves claims he even hid the drug in a jar of pickles, placing a pregnant woman she was living with also in danger.

According to reports, Woodward pleaded with Greaves to obtain an abortion when he learned of her pregnancy, but she refused. The two then broke up and Greaves determined to raise the child on her own.

However, Woodward soon contacted Greaves and claimed that he wanted to restore their relationship. He then moved to Hollywood to be with her.

But prosecutors believe that it was all a ploy to get close to Greaves in order to force the abortion. Investigators found that Woodward had typed “ways men have forced abortions” and “evil ways to terminate a pregnancy” into his search engine. He also researched the drug misoprostol and how long it can be detected in a person’s blood.

When Greaves miscarried and found a white powdery substance in her underwear, she called police, sensing that it was Woodward who induced the miscarriage. Police then set up a sting, instructing Greaves to keep her miscarriage a secret and invite Woodward back to her apartment. When she did so, police found Woodward carrying more misoprostol and took him into custody.

Woodward pleaded no contest to an attempted murder charge in November, sending the case into the sentencing phase.

On Friday, he was sentenced to nine years behind bars as his former girlfriend gave an impassioned speech about the great pain that Woodward caused her in killing their child seven years ago.

“Do you really not understand what you’ve done to me, yourself, your family?” Greaves, now 45, said, stating that he took away her only chance to be a mother.

“I hope that you can find the truth within your heart and in your soul, and just be honest,” she said. “You’re drugging the drink you gave me, drugging my food. … Do you really not understand what you’ve done to me?”

Reports state that Woodward stared straight ahead and would not look at Greaves as she spoke.

“While I was Googling, ‘Should I vaccinate my child?’ ‘What are the good schools?’ ‘What are the best strollers?’ ‘What are the best cribs?’ … You were Googling ‘Evil ways to force an abortion,’ and how to use chloroform to knock me out and different ways to drug me,” she lamented.

Woodward is expected to serve 85 percent of his sentence.

But if SHE took it willingly…..

  • gizmo23

    Sounds like a decent sentance

    • http://www.bing.com/ Martin Smit

No, it does not sound like a decent “sentance”. It’s a slap on the wrist for a foul murder.

Suddenly it does not seem so bad that convicts can suffer sudden terror and death at the hands of their fellow criminals. We should care about the injustice of this, but when the law institutes weak sentences for despicable crimes, it is harder to care.

      • Ambulance Chaser

        Except it wasn’t murder.

  • jael2

This was clearly premeditated murder, and he should’ve received the death penalty.

    • gizmo23

Would you feel the same way if the woman had an abortion at a clinic?

      • gogo0

        death penalties for all!
        courtesy of the “pro-life” crowd

  • FoJC_Forever

But had she wanted to have her baby murdered by a medical professional or take the drug and kill her child herself, this is acceptable to the abominable.

    Judgement is coming.

  • Nidalap

Attempted murder…there’s probably some legal wrangling I’m unaware of here, but why not murder? Was there someone else he only TRIED to kill?

  • gizmo23

Question of the day that won’t get answered. If a women has an abortion or uses birth control should she be given the death penalty?

    • Nidalap

In a more perfect world, those particular victims of the abortion industry would receive the counseling they need.
Your question in this thread DOES spawn another though. Do you feel that the perpetrator, in this case, was charged and punished too harshly, given the trash-level, throw-away status often assigned to victims of this particular age?

      • gizmo23

It could have been more harsh but I don’t know the law all that well.

    • gogo0

i always wonder how being naturally stillborn, an abortion exacted by god, is not a heinous crime to the anti-choice crowd

      • Bob Johnson

Or if this world is given over to satan, why abortion isn’t being “fast tracked” to heaven.

    • afchief

Abortion is murder!!! Birth control is not. The egg is prevented from being fertilized. You may not have to answer for it in this life, but if it goes unrepentant, you will in the next. I guarantee it!

      • gizmo23

Your own folks disagree with you.

        • afchief

          Who?

          • gizmo23

Most pro life groups oppose birth control and support contraception control which limits option greatly.

          • afchief

            Again, WHO?

          • TheKingOfRhye

The Catholic church, for one, is against both abortion and contraception.

          • afchief

The majority of the Catholic church are NOT born again Christians. The Catholic Church is just a religion. There is a difference.

          • TheKingOfRhye

Whether they’re true Scotsmen, I mean Christians, or not, it’s still an example of a group who is against abortion and contraception.

          • afchief

As I said the majority are NOT Christian. There is nothing mentioned in the Word of God forbidding contraception.

          • Bob Johnson

Somebody should run a “No true Scotsman” tally.

          • BobRumba

What I LIKE about the Catholics is that they aren’t the “born again” types.

          • afchief

Then you end up in the same place as them.

John 3:3 (NASB) Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

          • BobRumba

You aren’t God, you don’t get to send anyone to hell even though I know how much you wish you could.

          • afchief

You send yourself to hell with your rejection of Jesus Christ as you Lord and Savior. There are no second chances when you leave this earth.

          • gizmo23

You have already that you won’t believe any evidence I post.

          • afchief

Again, you are proving to be a liar!

          • gizmo23

Big deal. You hate me. Most Christians hate somebody

          • afchief

Why would I hate you? I do hate sin and lying is sin.

Christians do not hate. We do expose sin though.

          • TheKingOfRhye

            Yeah RIGHT…….that’s funny.

You say you don’t hate……suuuuuuure. You just go around calling me and others “mentally diseased, lying, reprobate queers” and the like…..oh NO, that’s not hate, though.

          • afchief

I said I expose sin. Lying is sin! Liberalism IS a mental disease. People who are homos DO HAVE a reprobate mind.

            Is a homosexual a queer?

          • TheKingOfRhye

            “Is a homosexual a queer?”

It’s a term that is usually meant in a derogatory, even hateful, fashion. If you’re so concerned about “exposing sin” in order to keep people from doing so, and save them from damnation or whatever you’d call it, I’d suggest insulting people is probably not the best way to go about such a thing.

Wait a minute though……you keep using that word, “reprobate”…..that’s part of the whole Calvinist thing, isn’t it? Unconditional election and so forth? If you’re one of the “elect” you’re ok, but if you’re one of the “reprobates”, you’re damned, no matter what you do?

          • afchief

You can call me a hetro, straight or normal. I won’t get offended. But I will not call you gay. That word has been hijacked by the homosexual left.

You are invited to the kingdom of God also. You just have to confess your sins and accept Jesus Christ as you Lord and Savior.

          • TheKingOfRhye

You just assume I’m gay, don’t you? Funny…..

Whatever……normal, though?? No, one thing I will never call you is normal. You are not that.

          • afchief

You can call be abby-normal. I don’t get offended over nothing!!!

            LOL!

          • BobRumba

You call yourself a Christian, and keep spouting hate like this?

          • afchief

Does the truth bother you? Lying is sin. People who practice homosexuality have been given over to a reprobate mind. I will not call you gay. That term has been hijacked by homosexuals. The proper term is queer or fag. There is no dignity in sodomy! Calling it “gay” does not make it so. Sodomy is dirty; in fact God calls it abominable. Calling it “gay” is nothing more than trying to dignify what they KNOW to be deviant. They are looking for society to tell them it is OK. It is not. It is abominable. The Supreme Judge said so.

          • BobRumba

No the truth doesn’t bother me, why do you have such an aversion to it?

Your post is ignorant and offensive. As if those derogatory phrases are “proper”. And again, bringing sodomy into it which is irrelevant and practiced by people regardless of sexuality. God calls it NOTHING, by the way – you are the liar here.

          • afchief

That’s because the Word of God is truth. It pierces the heart. It gets to the root of the problem………sin. And yes God has given you over to a reprobate mind to do things not proper!

Romans 1:18-28 (NASB) For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.

24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. 25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.

28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper,

          • Balerion

You profess lying to be a sin, yet you do it all the time.

          • gogo0

that’s one of the weird things that I just don’t understand about afchief, the insistence that liberalism is a mental disorder. I am not a liberal, and in fact when I was younger I was one of those far-right republicans (I have since mellowed quite a bit), but even then I didn’t consider liberals mentally disabled. afchief is a right-wing extremist

          • TheKingOfRhye

Well, I see that kind of thing alot, especially from those on the right, where people think that because someone has a different idea of how things should be, they must be evil, corrupt, lying, mentally diseased, or something like that.

          • gizmo23

You insult and accuse with nothing but your opinion

          • afchief

Then you are speaking against the Word of God.

          • gizmo23

            So be it in YO

      • jael2

Birth control pills, Norplant, the IUD, Depo-Provera, can cause abortions. They are clearly abortifacients. With chemical abortifacients, you can have “break through” ovulation, thus a child can be conceived, but the endometrium ( the lining of the womb) becomes a hostile environment for the newly conceived child to attach. If Christians truly believe life begins at conception, then they should avoid these human pesticides.

        • afchief

I’m talking about the “willful” killing of an unborn child. No only do we Christians call it murder, so does God!!!

  • afchief

Whattttt? Where are all the liberals, atheists and homos who say an unborn child is no child at all??????? How can it be murder???? Will a liberal, atheist or homo answer that question for me? Oh wait I know!!!! It’s murder when you want to keep the child. But, it OK to kill the child when you don’t want to keep it. What a double standard!!!

Just more proof of the evils of liberalism and that it truly is a mental disease!!!!

    • TheKingOfRhye

As a liberal and an atheist, at least, I guess I’ll answer. I don’t think abortion is murder, so I think the guy shouldn’t be charged with murder. What exactly you should call this, I don’t know, but it’s definitely a serious crime, nonetheless.

      • jael2

If the Supreme Court of the United States handed down a decision that it was open season on atheists and liberals as they did the preborn in 1973, would you feel the same way?
        Psalm 14:1

        • TheKingOfRhye

Oh, well, now you put it that way, it totally changes everything!!

          Not.

I said, I don’t think abortion IS murder, so I don’t think Roe v Wade was a declaration of “open season” on the “preborn” (ridiculous word, anyway)

      • afchief

That makes no sense! “I don’t think abortion is murder” ” but it’s definitely a serious crime, nonetheless.”

If you do not believe abortion is murder, than WHY is it a serious crime????

        • TheKingOfRhye

Well, it’s giving someone an abortion when they didn’t consent to it. She wanted to have the child in this case. I wouldn’t think it was any kind of a crime at all if she had taken the drug willingly.

          • afchief

This is why liberalism truly is a mental disorder!!!

          • Balerion

Wow. You are just astoundingly stupid.

      • Oboehner

Call it a man’s “right to choose”.

  • mic1969

Sneaking the drug to the lady was deception, and he is responsible for killing the baby. He should go to jail and have a minister visit him weekly so he can learn repentance. He couldn’t look her in the eye. He is already feeling paralyzing guilt. He is not beyond redemption. Anyone can receive forgiveness of sin, even though he must do time in jail. I pray for God’s mercy and love for BOTH of them. The only one not feeling pain now is the baby, who is safe in the arms of God.
