Global Report Finds One in Four Pregnancies End in Abortion

baby and motherA global report released by the World Health Organization and the Guttmacher Institute estimates that every one in four pregnancies ends in abortion.

“Some 25% of pregnancies ended in abortion in 2010–14,” the report, published in The Lancet, outlines. “Because of population growth, the annual number of abortions worldwide increased by 5.9 million from 50.4 million in 1990–94 to 56.3 million in 2010–14.”

It found that abortion rates, however, decreased in more developed nations, while there was little change in third world countries.

“In the developed world, the abortion rate declined 19 points, from 46 to 27. In the developing world, we found a non-significant 2 point decline in the rate from 39 to 37,” the study explained.

The organizations also found that for women between the ages of 15 and 44, there were approximately 35 abortions for every 1000 births. Most mothers seeking an abortion were married.

“Globally, 73% of abortions were obtained by married women in 2010–14 compared with 27% obtained by unmarried women,” the report outlined.

Study co-author Dr. Bela Ganatra of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland opined that the results show a need for birth control. WHO said that there was no relation between the abortion rate and its legality.

“Estimates of the proportion of abortions that are unsafe are under development but we already know nearly 300 million dollars are spent each year on treating the complications from unsafe abortions,” she said.

“The high rates of abortion seen in our study also provide further evidence of the need to improve and expand access to effective contraceptive services,” Ganatra added. “Investing in modern contraceptive methods would be far less costly to women and society than having unwanted pregnancies and unsafe abortions.”

But Nola Leach of Christian Action Research and Education (CARE) in London said that she found that the statistics rather indicate the need for Christians to be a voice for the unborn.

“While the number of abortions in more developed countries has come down the global figure is disturbingly high and a reminder of the international challenge we face in standing up for the unborn,” she told Christian Today.

“All too often, abortion is seen and sold as the only solution for mothers who are encouraged to view an unplanned pregnancy as a problem that needs solving,” Leach stated. “But we should be making sure mothers are fully aware that there are different options out there other than termination.”

“I would want to pay tribute to the work that many Christian organizations and Christian individuals do, especially in providing good quality pastoral care for women … and that certainly offers a real vision of how we can move forward in this,” added spokesman James Mildred. “There are other options out there other than just having an abortion.”

The figure must be higher, since some women murder the unwanted children without going to clinic. In China, government forces abortion upon the citizens. Christian evangelism and Christian education by the Church is the only solution to shape mankind’s conscience not to murder the unwanted children, until the day Jesus returns.

    • WorldGoneCrazy

Amen, Grace! Thank you for blessing us with your words of wisdom tonight!

      • Grace Kim Kwon

Thank you so much for sharing the life-giving Scripture here. Mankind did not know that abortion is murder until the American Christians educated us all. Christian conscience based on the Holy Bible is the key to rights and freedom. WorldGoneCrazy, do you know anyone who posted Christian comments under the handler’s name HeavenSent? Just curious.

        • WorldGoneCrazy

No, I do not recognize that screen name, Grace.

Yes, the Christians adopted abandoned children and abhorred abortion from Day 1.

If Christias truly want to reduce abortion they would concentrate their efforts on ensuring effective sex education from grade 1 and making contraception easily and cheaply available.

    • DanH

What’s the matter, troll? Is the NAMBLA website down?

      • WorldGoneCrazy

Yep, we have had 40 years of plentiful contraception, and we still murder the equivalent of about 115 kindergarten classrooms of (pre-born) children every day in Amerika.

        • Jalapeno

Seems like we should be working harder to remove the situations that push people into abortions then, eh?

After all..even if you completely, perfectly get rid of any methods that women can use to terminate…do you have any idea how many lives are lost when unwanted pregnancies happen because women struggle to get birth control?

How many lives are lost when those women cant get proper health care?

    • WorldGoneCrazy

If pro-aborts really wanted to reduce abortion, they would agree to abolish it. But, as it stands today, there is only one political party that stands proudly on the graves (if they would only offer them graves instead of trash bags, garbage disposals, and “research” labs) of 60 million innocents. It is the same party that once fought a horrific Civil War for the “right” to own black people, launched the KKK, and spent 99 years fighting against civil rights for the black man.

When it comes to being on the wrong side of the history of human rights abuses, no one does it “better” than the Democratic Party.

      • This style ten and six

Abolition has never worked. Education is better.

I have no interest in US political party history.

          • Ken Faivor

The law is for the lawless, in other words, it works for them, but it cannot perfect and it cannot save.

1Ti_1:9 as knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and unruly, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
            1Ti 1:10 for fornicators, for abusers of themselves with men, for menstealers, for liars, for false swearers, and if there be any other thing contrary to the sound doctrine;

Rom 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
Rom 8:4 that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Rom 8:5 For they that are after the flesh mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
Rom 8:6 For the mind of the flesh is death; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace:
Rom 8:7 because the mind of the flesh is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can it be:
Rom 8:8 and they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

Heb 10:1 For the law having a shadow of the good things to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect them that draw nigh.

Heb 7:19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a bringing in thereupon of a better hope, through which we draw nigh unto God.

Only being born from above can make you perfect and cause you to desire to do what is right, because it is right. The law makes you do what is right, by penalty of punishment. The law is a starting point, same as fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, it acts as a guardian until Christ come in you to be as he is.

Pro_1:7 The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of knowledge; But the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.

          • WorldGoneCrazy

Indeed. Which is why I spread the Gospel while I save babies from abortionists.

But, when man’s law corresponds with God’s Law, then lives can be saved. We are called to look out for the “least among us,” and the child in the womb certainly qualifies.

What has the GOP done to stop abortions, nothing

        • WorldGoneCrazy

          “Nothing changes in 125 years?”

It’s your party, Giz. If it were mine, I sure would have called for a name change, out of pure embarrassment!

“What has the GOP done to stop abortions”

My state just passed laws which will save thousands of babies a year. GOP states are doing that all over.

And, I have yet to meet a Democrat on the sidewalk – except for the deathscorts and abortionist of course. We GOPers saved 8 babies recently FROM your pwecious Demon-cratic Party, at our location alone – multiply that by hundreds and that’s a lot of babies! And we know what you were doing then, Giz, because you admitted it on Live Action News!

          • gizmo23

            I am not a democrat

          • WorldGoneCrazy

            You sure are, Buddy!

          • Ken Faivor

If you were to do a in depth study on modern contraceptives, you would find that they are abortions, done early and at home for the sake of the lusts of the flesh.

          • Jalapeno

            No.

Hormonal birth control works by preventing ovulation.

Copper IUDs work in almost all cases by preventing the sperm from traveling to the egg.

Neither of those are “abortions”, unless you’re worried about the poor little sperm not filling their goal.

There is a POSSIBILITY of birth control being used IN EMERGENCIES preventing a fertilized egg from implanting, which could also be hardly called an abortion..but..it’s worth noting that that’s never actually been shown to happen. It’s just a possibility due to how it works.

          • Ken Faivor

The Physician’s Desk Reference, which articulate the research findings of all the birth control pill manufacturers, there are not one but three mechanisms of birth control pills:

            1. inhibiting ovulation (the primary mechanism),

            2. thickening the cervical mucus, thereby making it more difficult for sperm to travel to the egg, and

            3. thinning and shriveling the lining of the uterus to the point that it is unable or less able to facilitate the implantation of the newly fertilized egg.

The first two mechanisms are contraceptive. The third is abortive.

When a woman taking the Pill discovers she is pregnant (according to The Physician’s Desk Reference’s efficacy rate tables, this is 3 percent of pill-takers each year), it means that all three of these mechanisms have failed. The third mechanism sometimes fails in its role as backup, just as the first and second mechanisms sometimes fail. Each and every time the third mechanism succeeds, however, it causes an abortion.

          • Jalapeno

They have never actually shown a case of the 3rd mechanism working…it’s only in there because it’s a theoretical possibility.

The third mechanism really only happens when you’re taking an emergency contraception pill, but those haven’t been shown to be effective if the women has already ovulated, either.

          • Ken Faivor

And how would they show it? I think you are burying your head in the sand. All you have to do is look at who promotes the pill………Planned parenthood.

          • Jalapeno

EVERYONE with an interest in reducing abortions promotes the pill.

Take for instance, though, the fact that they did testing on women who took it for emergency contraception and never found an expelled egg.

They can also pretty make pretty decent determinations for who gets pregnant, who is ovulating, and who took the pill.

          • Ken Faivor

“EVERYONE with an interest in reducing abortions promotes the pill”
            ………………………………………..

            I don’t

          • Jalapeno

            Okay..fine.

Let me say “The people who actually want to save lives and have considered their position understand that the bcp is an important tool.”

            More accurate.

          • Ken Faivor

I’ll make it more accurate for the majority of the population.

Those in the world who are unmarried and what to continue in their fornicational sin, without the complications of marriage or pregnancy can feel at ease thinking their sin has no consequences. The pill makes it easy.

          • Jalapeno

Are you more concerned with saving lives or other peoples morality?

The pill saves lives. That’s just..a fact. Even if we get rid of abortion completely…the pill saves lives.

          • Ken Faivor

            Sin kills.

          • Jalapeno

            Okay, sure.

Lets just make sure everyone stops having sex unless they’re actively trying for a child. (Married people included)

            Good luck with that.

In the mean time..many people understand that even if one out of a thousand emergency contraception treatments resulted in a fertilized egg being lost…the pill is overall an effective way of preventing lives from being lost.

          • Ken Faivor

So what you’re saying is spin the wheel….Most likely you won’t murder you child.

          • Jalapeno

Did you know that a substantial portion…up to half, by some accounts..of pregnancies end in miscarriage?

So..if you have people who don’t want to be pregnant getting pregnant…

You have more lives being lost for no reason.

          • Ken Faivor

I know two people who were heartbroken with miscarriages. They becoming pregnant after years of being on the pill, their bodies being so out of whack. After about a year their bodies recovered enough for them to become mothers.

          • Jalapeno

How many pregnancies do you think were prevented during the years they were on BC?

Of course…studies actually show that long term contraception use REDUCES the rate of miscarriage.

          • Ken Faivor

You mean how many were aborted because of the pill? I don’t know, but I’m sure God has the count.

          • Jalapeno

Remember how pregnancies often end in miscarriage?

Remember how the bcp pill typically works through ovulation prevention and only really has the possibility of preventing a fertilized egg from implanting when used for emergency contraception?

“The number of years of contraceptive pill use was correlated with pregnancy outcome. Lowered rates of miscarriage were found with increased years of pill use.”

-Pregnancy and lifestyle study: the long-term use of the contraceptive pill and the risk of age-related miscarriage. [Hum Reprod. 1995 Jun;10(6):1397-402.] [PMID: 7593504 if you have access to pubmed]

          • Ken Faivor

Well, you will believe what you what I guess.

          • Jalapeno

            This isn’t a “belief” thing.

More miscarriages happen when more pregnancies happen. Fact.

More pregnancies happen when less contraception is used. Fact.

Women, especially older women, who have been on the pill for long periods of time have been shown to have a lower rate of miscarriage. Fact.

Therefore..on many levels, pills save lives.

So..it’s about priorities. Do you care more about preventing lost lives or about trying to keep people from having sex?

          • Ken Faivor

“More miscarriages happen when more pregnancies happen. Fact”

“More pregnancies happen when less contraception is used. Fact.”
            …………………………………
            These are daaaaa statements.

            /////////////////////////

“Women, especially older women, who have been on the pill for long periods of time have been shown to have a lower rate of miscarriage. Fact.”
            ………………………………………

This one I just don’t believe. I wonder who did the study and what was their agenda.

          • Jalapeno

            Fine..if you don’t like studies.

I’m glad you at least understand that more contraception leads DIRECTLY to less miscarriages.

It’s a step in the right direction.

Next up..prioritizing the protection of life over the pushing of morals.

          • Ken Faivor

How can it not lead to less miscarriages if there are less pregnancies……..Like I said it’s a daaaa statement.

          • Jalapeno

You were failing to acknowledge it before though. Failed to acknowledge that contraception saves lives.

I’m guessing you’re going to stick to saying that contraception is bad though because..uhm..sex is bad if you don’t want kids..and..all the lost pregnancies are worth it.

          • Ken Faivor

That is a twisted way to put it

          • Jalapeno

            Why?

            Birth control saves lives.

So..refusing to support it because of ‘sin’ means that you are choosing to apply YOUR morals to other people instead of working to prevent lives from being lost.

          • Ken Faivor

These were not my morals until God put them in me. These are God’s morals and they are in His Word.

          • Jalapeno

They are the morals that YOU follow, but not the morals that everyone else does.

Is it more important to you to push those on other people..or to prevent lives from being lost?

          • Ken Faivor

I am telling this to Christians so that they can be informed. I don’t reckon the lost who are intent on staying lost will listen anyway.

          • Jalapeno

            Okay.

So you care more about your morals than preventing lives from being lost.

See? That wasn’t so hard was it.

After all, if you cared more about the lives…you would be in support of getting people contraception.

          • Ken Faivor

            Twisted reasoning.

          • Jalapeno

            How so?

It seems pretty straight forward to me. There are two general choices here.

            A- Support birth control.

B- Refuse to support birth control because of your morals.

Choice A leads directly to the prevention of lost lives.

So..if you support choice B, it means you are choosing your morals.

Sure..there are different aspects within A..you can push for people to wait until they WANT children and stay virgins until then..you can push for different types of birth control..but..in general, it involves an acceptance that birth control is an important tool.

          • Ken Faivor

Yes, it is a very important tool…..Satan loves it.

          • Jalapeno

Well..what other choices do you see..or are you just choosing to believe that birth control doesn’t actually prevent loss of life?

          • Ken Faivor

            1Th 4:3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye abstain from fornication;
1Th 4:4 that each one of you know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honor,
            1Th 4:5 not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who know not God;

Not that anyone of us can do this in and by himself but……

Php_4:13 I can do all things in him that strengtheneth me.

          • Jalapeno

            Okay, cool.

            That’s what I thought.

You’d rather worry about your own morals than support something that saves lives.

            Thanks for clarifying.

          • Ken Faivor

I should have put out them scriptures first and saved you the time of day.

Probably several billion persons have been “terminated” in untero with abortion worldwide since it became legal in many countries.

    • WorldGoneCrazy

The estimates I have seen are between 1.5 and 2 billion. Quite stunning. In Amerika alone, we have the equivalent of 115 Sandy Hook classrooms executed in the womb every day.

No news coverage, and very few people care.

World wide that is a lot of missing Humanity 🙁 What would the world be like if they had not been killed? I like to think it could be a better world today.

Many would say that the extra mouths to feed would eat us out of house and home as if God cannot provide, but He says different.

Ecc 5:11 When goods increase, they are increased that eat them; and what advantage is there to the owner thereof, save the beholding of them with his eyes?

      • LadyFreeBird♥BlessedBeTheLord

Could you imagine what it is like for God to see what we do to the Unborn? To kill and destroy Humanity of the unborn. I think it is sad.

          Me too.

  • gizmo23

Maybe it will stop when we start valuing people over profit

  • ComeOnPeople!

Legalizing something does not change what it is in the sight of God. We can legalize SIN all day long and it will remain wrong in God’s book. The problem with the world and also organized religion is that they are following the laws of men even when they go against the laws of God. Legalized abortion is no better then the pagan practice of sacrificing children up to their Gods. America has legalize sacrificing it’s children to a corrupt system and selfishness.
