Upcoming ‘Blood Moon’ Lunar Eclipses Spark Woes, Discussion About End Times Bible Prophecy

Lunar eclipse

Christians worldwide are divided over the significance of four upcoming ‘blood moon’ lunar eclipses, namely whether or not the celestial events mark the fulfillment of end times biblical prophecies.

During the wee hours of Tuesday morning, the full moon will pass through the Earth’s shadow, causing a total lunar eclipse. The eclipse will be visible from many locations, including all of North and South America.

According to EarthSky, the total eclipse will be visible from about 2:00–3:30 a.m. Central Daylight Time. Though the moon’s color during the eclipse is difficult to predict, the moon might turn an orange or red hue.

The eclipse will be the first of four upcoming total lunar eclipses. Series of four lunar eclipses, known as “tetrads,” are relatively rare, according to astronomers.

Several Christian leaders have suggested that the upcoming lunar eclipses are scripturally significant and will possibly fulfill prophecies found in the Bible.

“The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come,” Joel 2:31 states.

“And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth,” says Revelation 6:12-13.

“We are on the verge of witnessing something historic,” Mark Biltz of El Shaddai Ministries in Bonnie Lake, Washington and author of Blood Moons: Decoding the Imminent Heavenly Signs, told WND.com. “This has happened only eight times over the last 2,000 years! And the last two times these occurred on the Jewish holidays there was a war in the Middle East regarding the nation of Israel. These are patterns and historical facts that cannot be disregarded.”

John Hagee, author of Four Blood Moons: Something is About to Change, has also been particularly vocal about the significance of the blood moon. He states that that the four lunar eclipses suggest that God is sending a sign that significant changes are ahead.

“Every time this has happened in the last 500 years, it has coincided with tragedy for the Jewish people followed by triumph,” he remarked to the Daily Express. “And once again, for Israel, the timing of this tetrad is remarkable.”

“[T]here are specific references that focus on the moon looking ‘blood red’ in the lead up to the great and terrible Day of the Lord and it is for this reason that the prophecy of the blood moon tetrads is causing a ripple across the Bible community,” writes Kade Hawkins of Prophesy News Watch and Signsofthebloodmoon.com.

Hawkins has released a four-part report and critique about blood moons and their significance.

But Dr. Jason Lisle, an astrophysicist with the Institute for Creation Research, told Christian News Network that eclipses are “actually quite common.”

In the 21st century,” Lisle said, “we will experience 85 total lunar eclipses, including the eleven that have already happened. A ‘tetrad’ is a sequence of four consecutive lunar eclipses separated by six months each. Tetrads are not all that unusual. The 21st century will experience 8 tetrads. So it is statistically inevitable that some of them will occur on dates of interest.”

Lisle further stated that lunar eclipses regularly coincide with Jewish holidays, since the Jewish calendar is based on the lunar cycle. Being surprised by an eclipse’s occurrence on a Jewish holiday, says Lisle, “would be a bit like being surprised that Thanksgiving falls on a Thursday for the next ten years in a row.”

He said that he does not believe that Tuesday’s blood moon necessarily signals the return of Christ.

“[T]he timing of the second coming of the Lord cannot be predicted in advance (Matthew 24:36),” Lisle noted. “But lunar eclipses can be predicted centuries in advance. So it should be clear that these are two unrelated events.”

“A lunar eclipse is a delightful event, and one that anyone can observe,” he stated. “We are able to predict such events only because God upholds the universe in such a rigorously consistent and mathematical way. So we should enjoy the beauty of these lunar eclipses and thank the Lord for His gracious provision to us.”

Beth Marie DiBella I did not mean to imply that Jesus is not returning. He will return. I think the red moon has been over used in the past 150years as an interrupt action of the return of Christ. I have learned that is not meant to be the sign for Jesus to return. I am not sure that the red moon should be of such great importance. We should all live. Like He is coming back tomorrow and it would be a much better world.

I would not make the sweeping general statement that we cannot predict the end times at all because Jesus only said we would not know the day or the hour-implying that the exact time will not be known, but elsewhere, Jesus tells us we will be able to discern the season. Matt 24. Tells us when we see these things we will know we are in the season. He compares it to Noah and the Ark .Noah did not know what day or hour it would happen, but he knew the signs that the flood was near and knew to get himself and his family into the ark at the right time because God had given him a warning. When the animals were coming to them, Noah and fam knew the time was near, but others who did not know God or ignored his warnings did not recognize the season was upon them. A blood moon coinciding with a solar eclipse and possibly a meteor shower, as well as several other prophecies fulfilled(Matt 24: false Messiahs, terrible persecution, fleeing, possibly the rapture- AFTER which there would be a blood moon, maybe) would point us to the correct season. Using the old “We can’t know when it will happen at all” myth as evidence against the blood moon fulfilling prophecy weakens the argument. But more accurately, since there are other things that need to take place first, and during that time, we can know that this is not the sign of that season. Also- the frequency and coinciding with holidays does not point to a fulfilled prophecy, as stated in the article.

The Jewish sages teach that red moons are a sign of Gods judgement in the direction the moon is seen. If this is so it is unlikely that anything significant would happen on the day as usually there is some time between when judgement is passed and sentence is carried out. Nobody can predict this. Tetrads coinciding with the first and the last feast are uncommon. In the period of the 7th such tetrad since 1 AD Israel miraculously defeated its enemies and recaptured Jerusalem, and the war was won 40 + 7 days after the first moon in the tetrad

  • Sue Rhineheimer

The Day of Lord in prophecy is not referring to the return of Christ, but rather to the judgment of a nation. That is why we need to pay attention!

Jesus is real. My mom seen him and said his name as she was taking her last breaths 2 years ago. I was holding her hand as she passed. First, her hands were warm and had life. The second she passed, her hand went cold and felt fake. (no feeling) . She went somewhere else(which I believe is with Jesus). I can’t tell anyone or make anyone believe in Jesus, only they can tell themselves and make themselves believe in him. EVERY human knows who God is, even the ones who says there is no such thing. When they are in need and desperat . and fearing for their life, I’m sure God comes out of their mouth or thought. Believing we are at the end of our days? Believe it! Our livesare just a blink of an eye. We were born to die. We were born to live, we were born to fear, we were born to disagree, we ARE born to serve him. Believe the truth in your hearts! Not from a scientist who tries to tell you what you want to hear. The Lord is coming, so be prepared. And prepare the ones you love.

He will return, but not when we all expect it.

“No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” Matthew 24:30-36

    It’ll be sudden:
“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

As a commentator from the Jewish faith, I would like to say that if this Blood Moon Prophecy is true, then this means the Palestinians are destined to lose.

      That’s a lot of coincidence.

It is already set in motion but not reported in the world news. Watch what the LORD did in the South Island. First, the Nepal 2015 was virtually identical with NZ 2016 where the quake origins propagated hundred of miles with desolation unto the capitals where the first one with 9000 perished and the second with no one died and no building collapsed. Second, yet the second capital had many major buildings spared from collapse but internally injured so much as rendered non-operational for many years. The damages were so complete they have to lease buildings from porno kings of brothels, red lights business and porn sites.

This was prophesied the day before by a locally (voted least liked) preacher who stated of reasons and places of 2011 and 2016 quakes. He is roundly criticized by the PM and the entire local media as anti certain type of sins…. The entire North Island East coast is now moving slowly in cm and fast in meters! Quakes are on going as in Leviticus 18.
