Lesbian Houston Mayor Ordered to Stop Providing Benefits to ‘Spouses’ of Homosexual Employees

Parker pdHOUSTON — In a see-saw battle over the matter, a state judge in Texas has ordered the outspoken lesbian mayor of Houston along with other city officials to stop providing life and health insurance benefits to the partners of homosexual employees.

Houston mayor Annise Parker—who has been in the headlines recently after attorneys for the city requested copies of sermons from certain pastors during the discovery phase of a lawsuit surrounding a petition seeking to overturn Houston’s “bathroom bill”—issued an order last November that required the city to provide the benefits to homosexual city workers “legally married” out-of-state.

But the following month, several entities filed suit against the city, stating that Parker’s order violated the Houston city charter, the Texas Defense of Marriage Act and the state Constitution.

According to reports, 13 city employees who identify as homosexual have traveled out of state to tie the knot. Same-sex “marriage” is not legal in Texas, although the matter is currently under appeal after a state judge struck down the Texas marriage amendment as unconstitutional earlier this year.

State Judge Lisa Millard granted an injunction against Parker last year, but the city moved the legal challenge to federal court, resulting in the injunction becoming moot. But the federal court moved the suit back to the state in August on jurisdictional grounds.

However, a second lawsuit was also filed over the matter, this time from the city workers who had been denied the benefits due to the injunction. A district judge then left Parker’s order in place until an appeals court decided the constitutionality of the Texas Defense of Marriage Act.

Jared Woodfill, the former chairman of the Harris County Republican Party, and the organization Texas Values, then filed in the state courts again last week, and as she did before, Judge Millard granted the injunction on Wednesday. She ordered the injunction to stay in place until December 2015, when the matter goes to trial.

Woodfill states that he is pleased with the outcome in the matter.

“All you have to do is read the constitution of the state to know the mayor has been breaking the law,” he told reporters. ““It is great to have a judge who will hold Mayor Parker accountable for trampling on the Texas Constitution and Texas Defense of Marriage Act. We will continue to oppose this Mayor every time she puts her agenda ahead of the law.”

Texas Values President and attorney, Jonathan Saenz, agreed.

“A Texas judge has once again made it clear—Mayor Parker’s executive actions to force same-sex marriage on the people of Houston are illegal. Mayor Parker’s judgment and her reliance on the reckless advice of City Attorney David Feldman have once again put the city of Houston on the wrong side of the law,” he wrote in a press release this week. “It is time for Mayor Parker to start following the law and stop wasting tax dollars on issues that have already been resolved by Texas voters and Texas state courts.”

Parker vows to appeal the injunction, which could again end up in federal court.

What a shame, the mayor and qualified city employees punished for doing the right thing. But it’s a temporary setback. Eventually all married couples will have the same benefits available across the board. There’s no rational reason to deprive some married couples the benefits extended to other married couples.

    • Thomas Collins Jr June

But her right thing is not the legal thing yet.

    • Walt Lonsdale

Obviously it’s not the right thing. What you think is right is irrelevant.

      • James Grimes

Irrelevant to the extreme. The troll deserves no consideration here on CN.net

    • TheBBP

Right. And if teachers wanted to do the “right thing” and started having prayers in class for the well-being of all of the students, based on your name here I get the feeling that you would suddenly want to follow the letter of the law.

    • libssukkalot

The fascist manner in which she was going to force it on others was her greatest offense!

  • Mary Kilbride

Breaking the law is never “doing the right thing”….. So far, the people of Texas have spoken and so far, they have people who are strong enough to fight these takeovers before they take them over. Look at what is going on elsewhere…. people losing their businesses because they don’t want to bake a cake! Like that is the only place to get a cake! You can’t tell me this is not done to deliberately put people of faith on the carpet for following the tenets of their faith! They actually enjoy running a woman out of business because she didn’t want to do their wedding cake. She offered to make them any other thing they wanted, but she cannot “participate” in what they are doing. Should be her choice, but it turns out to the the LGBT communities choice as to her faith and if she wants to follow it. So, stay strong Texas…. because if you begin to acquiesce to them? You will be getting busted out of everything you ever believed in….including forcing you to have gay pastors, etc…. stand strong. Learn from others.

Mayor Lesbian is out of control. She needs to be defeated, and the city’s lawyer, Feldman, who issued the subpoenas against the churches, ought to be fired.

City councilors who support the mayor should also be defeated.

Citizens should picket those people’s homes and flyers their neighbors and churches to let them know what has happened.

Christians and decent people need to fight the mayor and her cronies.

    • Steve Berde

Christians need to fight for what Christ fought for – human rights for all not just those that believe in what YOU believe in

      • MC

Christ didn’t fight for sin, he fought against it.

  • Chrissy Vee

Thank you Lord…Texas! The way gays are winning victories, and the way the LGBT agenda is being bulldozed down our throats everywhere, leads me to believe the homosexual population is MUCH greater than 3%. I for one would like to stand behind a movement against the LGBTs for harrasssing Christian businesses.

    • Neiman

IT is not a greater percentage, it is that they are supported by Christ hating liberals that want to destroy the Church.

Gay Marriage is against the law in Texas, this mayor is an outlaw, out of control and hateful of the Constitution of the State of Texas and the United States.

    • Neiman

Chrissy, things will get worse, the GOP victories will not be able to turn the moral pendulum back towards God. These liberal and gay elected officials, like this mayor and Obama, no longer believe they have to obey the law, they believe they should be able to dictate to the people. It will not be long that even for you or I to oppose their anti–Christ agenda, as it has with so many people in this country, make you into a criminal and our hope is that the Lord will return for His Church before they start sending bible believing Christians to prison and even death, which is what God told us would happen.

It is stunning how in half a century they have turned homosexuality from a mental disorder to making Christians into the enemy of the country. I fear for any of my friends and relatives that might remain after the Lord’s return, it will literally be hell on earth.

      • Chrissy Vee

I know Neiman. There is just so much against us that I get a little excited when I hear some good news.
We are in a sorrowful yet exciting time. As sickening as it is, I feel priveleged that we are the generation of the end times and are witness to His Word unfolding before us. Hopefully, when the time comes, our friends and family will remember what we have told them and turn to the Lord and be strong. I cry when I think about it. But I believe God is merciful and loves us (his children) so much that he will answer our prayers for them. After all we are all in agreement with him on that matter. 🙂 ♥

        • Neiman

You are so right, mixed feelings sad that evil is reigning and will grow more virulent and wicked, joy in knowing God told us this would happen and as we see prophecy unfolding before our eyes, we can rejoice in God.

We can and will pray for all our loved ones until we go home and I was just reminded that when the Lord taught us the Lord’s Prayer, we are not to forget to pray that His Kingdom will soon come.

          God bless you so much!

          • Chrissy Vee

God bless you mightily too brother! 🙂

          • timetorun

We can pray for the justice of God to come to America. Isa 26.9 For when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.

  • prjoe

I guess Texas Republicans read a Made-in-Texas Bible. The one most Christians read promotes love, not hatred.

    • Michael

Love doesn’t mean acceptance of sin. God is love, but he will not condone sin.

      • John_33

        Well said.

    • James Grimes

Nope, not even close. Your comment is meant to be hateful, pure and simple. Why you are even here is beyond belief.

  • Bolvon72

Now that Chrissy and Neiman are done blowing each other, maybe they can sit back and try and realize that their BS is the reason so many are flat out tired of the fundie rhetoric and are now actively trying to make things miserable for them.

    • Neiman

These are the five fundamental beliefs of fundamentalism, so dangerous, right?

      > Biblical inspiration and the inerrancy of scripture as a result of this
      > Virgin birth of Jesus
      > Belief that Christ’s death was the atonement for sin
      > Bodily resurrection of Jesus
      > Historical reality of the miracles of Jesus

What a foul thing to sat about myself and Chrissy, it only shows the filth in your own depraved mind and says nothing about us.

Yes, your side, the anti-Christ side, the amoral and grossly immoral liberal side of this world is expressing its hatred for the followers of Christ and the question is why? The answer is clear; You are all afraid, as you know you will face God, the Judge of the whole earth and you want to express your deep, seething hatred of Him by hurting His children; and sadly, that will only increase the degree of your conscious sufferings throughout eternity.

      • Demmi Greene

Ignore them. Hatred for the saints is all they know. Their ”hanging out” around us goes way back, it seems.

Gen 19:4/ But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: 5/ And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. 6/ And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him, 7/ And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.

  • B. Hof

They’ll only win if we let them. This country can still be saved but it won’t be easy. After Nov. 4th I think its pretty obvious that the majority of the country has had enough of the liberal bs.

  • B. Hof

This mayor is a perfect example of why it is important for Christians to vote. You’re not rebelling by not voting, you’re surrendering.

    • Randy Lamb

      So true B. Hof

    • libssukkalot

More need to speak out in the political arena too. Too many are afraid to be called names by the Liberal Left…so what.

When good men say nothing in the face of evil, that is evil.

  • MC

This mayor has done more to destroy her cause than anyone else. LOL! Great job!

  • jcrosby35

This is not just breaking the law, it is a test to see just how far these perverts can go. How much can they get by with before the people say no more. In the mean time its government against the people. She has her little bully pulpit all set up and she is pushing her agenda as far and hard as she can. This so called mayor is not interested in the people she is suppose to be serving. Like Obama she is going to force feed you as much of her crap as she can. Unless you like fighting her I would say it is recall time.

  • WorldGoneCrazy

We must continue to fight against, speak truth to, and pray for this mayor who is in such utter darkness that she rebels against God, and even the man-made laws she swore (on a Bible?) to uphold. She received over 1000 Bibles recently, plus a lot of cards with Gospel tracts and messages in them. Surely she kept one of these?
C’mon, Mayor! Jesus loves you, but He just as surely hates your sinful wicked heart. Our time is so short on earth – for all of us. An eternity without God where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth is surely not what you desire?!?

  • jennylynn

Breaking the law and abuse of power is reason for removal. We have enough lawlessness and corruption, we don’t need a mayor pushing her agenda on everyone.

  • aberdeem

May true justice prevail and may this mayor get packing orders.

  • disqus_KcQjla3peN

You can be gay and be a christian…I dont agree with every gay person because they are gay..and ya’ ll shouldnt either…just sayin

  • Steve Berde

It’ll be so great when Texas secede’s from the US and joins Mexico as it surely will within a few years. Their politician’s and legislative body is from another time and place. I feel for the Texans that have to live under that system that privately loathe it.

  • AustinBamBam

Hopefully, it won’t be long before gay couples are getting married in Texas. Then, this will be a none issue.
