Indiana Pastor’s Wife, Baby Dies Following Armed Attack

Blackburn-compressedINDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — A pastor’s wife and their unborn child are dead following an attack that is believed to be an attempted burglary.

David and Amanda Blackburn moved to Indianapolis, Indiana three years ago to plant a new church called Resonate.

“Resonate’s vision is to connect people to life-change and see a contagious movement of God spread throughout Indianapolis,” the church website reads.

The couple gave birth to a baby boy last year named Weston, and recently learned that they were expecting their second child.

On Tuesday, when David Blackburn came home from the gym, he found his wife, 28, lying unconscious on the floor with a gunshot wound to the head. She was rushed to the hospital, but was declared brain dead. On Wednesday, Blackburn was removed from life support. Her child died as well.

“It’s impossible to communicate all the emotions my heart has been forced to process,” David Blackburn wrote in a statement. “My wife was such a beautiful, gracious, loving woman of God. I have not only lost my ministry partner and support but also my very best friend.”

“Amanda made it her life’s calling to love and serve everyone she knew. Even more, she has made it her life’s mission to see as many people as possible come to know Jesus as their personal Savior,” he continued. “I know that in her death and legacy even more people will come to a saving faith in Christ.”

Blackburn said that although his pain is great, he trusts God to take what the darkness meant for evil and turn it around for good.

“As deeply as I am hurting, I am hopeful and confident that good things will come of this,” he stated. “I rest in the truth of Romans 8:28 that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him and who are called according to His purpose.”

Investigators state that they believe Blackburn was shot during a home invasion that was likely an attempted robbery. There have been recent burglaries in the area, including a break in not far from the Blackburn’s home where electronics and other valuables were stolen.

Crimestoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of Blackburn’s killer.

Prosecutors will not be seeking charges for the death of the couple’s unborn child as Indiana state law only considers the killing of “a fetus that has attained viability” to be murder, voluntary manslaughter or involuntary manslaughter.
