Two-Year-Old ‘Witch’ Boy Left to Starve to Death By Superstitious Family Rescued by Aid Worker

Hope-compressedNIGERIA — A two-year old boy who was abandoned by his family after being accused of being a witch was recently rescued from death by a Danish aid worker, and online photos of the child’s plight have prompted nearly $150,000 dollars in donations toward his medical fees.

The child, who has now been named Hope, was found walking the streets of Nigeria last month naked, emaciated and full of parasites. Passersby threw scraps of food at the boy for the eight months that he wandered abandoned and alone.

Anja Ringgren Loven, the founder of the African Children’s Aid Education and Development Foundation, which exists to help neglected children, found Hope on the street and offered him water to drink.

“Thousands of children are being accused of being witches,” she wrote on Facebook on Jan. 31 in providing photographs of the moment she found the child. “[W]e’ve both seen torture of children, dead children and frightened children.”

Loven wrapped Hope in a blanket and took him to the hospital, where he was given a blood transfusion and medication to help rid his body of worms. Days later, she posted a report on the boy’s progress.

Hope today.
Hope today.

“Hope’s condition is stable now. He’s taking food for himself and he responds to the medicine he gets,” Loven outlined. “He gets blood transfusion every day so he can receive red blood cells. He has many worms in his stool. The worms [are] giving him some pain.”

The aid worker also shared photographs of her own son playing with Hope, and pictures of the boy smiling.

“He is a strong little boy. To see him sit and play with my own son is without a doubt the greatest experience of my life,” Loven wrote. “I simply do not know how to describe it in words. This is what makes life so beautiful and valuable and I will let the pictures here speak for themselves.”

When Loven first posted photographs of Hope and requested donations toward his care, within two days she received over $147,000—which she now says can also be used to help build a medical clinic.

“With all the money we can besides giving Hope the very best treatment now also build a doctor clinic on the new land and save many more children out of torture!” she wrote in a recent update. “It’s just so great!”

Terrible! How can a little two year old boy be a “witch”? The people are caught up in a satanic belief system.

    • gizmo23

I wonder where got the ideas about witches and Satan

      • Seymore Philmore

Do you also wonder how man “evolved” a conscience, that is an innate knowledge of good and evil? Do you wonder why some things that are labeled evil in some societies are accepted in others? Do you wonder how man could continue to exist since so many are so stupid?

        • gizmo23

Yes sometimes. What is your point?

      • Josey

So blame the people of God, you are foolish for making such a statement. There are evil ppl in this world same as good ppl. Overcome evil with good.

        • gizmo23

I didn’t blame anyone. I would like to know what they base these believes on

          • Josey

my guess is satan has filled their minds with superstitious beliefs in order to hurt the little ones as he is so good at destruction, he causes abortion, he cause the children to be sacrificed to the god of molech, a demon, satan hates human beings, he is jealous of us for we have redemption through Christ where as he is running out of time and his judgement is sure and he knows it but would like to wreak as much havoc and destruction against humans and drag as many to hell with him through his lies and deceit for he knows how much God loves us and he can’t stand it. I know it didn’t come from a heart that trusts in Christ for Christ welcomes all the little ones and even pronounces a judgement against those that would offend the little ones saying it would be better for them to have a millstone hung around their necks and cast into the sea.

          • wandakate

Yes, I have a report about satan and the demons in my new book due out by Mar. 10th. You are so right, satan has a short time before he’s done and He knows. However, he came to kill, steal and destroy souls. Hello to all on here that know what I write about. Hope all are doing well.

          • Laurence Charles Ringo

Couldn’t have put it better myself,Josey…people had better realize that Satan ain’t no cartoon character—He’s as real as Our Saviour said he is.

          • Laurence Charles Ringo

Do some research on the traditional religions of Nigeria,Gizmo23. For crying out loud…you do know about Google & Wikipedia, right??

      • Peter Leh

voodoo is prevent in africa. Witch doctors are still strongly respected in tribes. Most likely the voodoo doctor put a “curse” on the child and the parents disowned him.

I have a friend in zambia who has told similar stories.

    • gizmo23

Where would they have learned about Satan?

      • Laurence Charles Ringo

        See Peter Leh’s post,Gizmo23…

  • Gott Mit Uns!

This is the result of so-called “sincerely-held religious beliefs.”

    • Josey

No, this is pure evil and superstition by fools who do not know God or His love and mercy. It was God’s people who found the baby and is now helping him and others like him.

      • Bezukhov

Jut think. White Christians colonized Africa, sent thousands of missionaries, and it was all for naught.

        • Josey

No, doing God’s will is never for naught faithless and ignorant person. you may never see until the end of the age what God has done through missionaries sent there, we need to lift those missionaries up in prayer for it’s not an easy task God has assigned to them but God is mightier than all and gives those whose hearts are for those African ppl the strength and Africa is a huge continent and the gospel is needed and has changed lives there so take your faithless talk, repent and if you are really concerned for Africans, then pray that God shows them the gospel by sending in more harvesters, ministers and deliverers and by that I am not talking about colonizers, missionaries are not colonizers, for Africans are steeped in superstition and demon possession and the Name of Jesus alone can set them free. Missionaries have done and are doing God’s will over there at the cost of some of their earthly lives. But one thing God will not do is override another’s will, they can preach, teach and show them God’s mercy but they cannot make a decision for Christ for them, there are even active witch doctors who pray to satan against the work of missionaries, not only there but in other godless societies too but God is greater than all and victory belongs to the believer who trusts in the Lord but still it is hard work to be a missionary, their families are at times threatened, etc. So stop with you faithless remarks and realize souls are at stake here which are precious to God so precious that He was willing to send His only begotten Son to earth to be beaten unrecognizable, tortured and pour out your sin and my sin upon him that we have sinned or will ever sin as a sacrificial lamb so we could have salvation and Jesus willingly accepted God’s will and took our place.

        • mrpoohead

No, they got to play with little boys and girls which probably gave a good lot of them some “jollies”. Organised religion – Gods excuse for perverts .

          • wandakate

There’s an old saying and it is this…IF YOU DON’T HAVE SOMETHING GOOD TO SAY, THEN DON’T SAY ANTHING AT ALL. Many “good” Christians are missionaries and they don’t harm children, shame on you!

          • mrpoohead

Would you please pass this on to everyone else on his site – the folk that attack people pro-choice, those that attack Clinton…..blah, blah. So get lost. Christians – Jesus’s answer for mental health issues.

          • wandakate

We know who has the mental health issues. Just look at the condition this country is in right now, and that tells us a lot, if we have any common sense.
I didn’t attack anybody, pro-choice or anybody else. If you have a big problem with Christians, then why are you on a Christian site?

          • mrpoohead

It was only this week that I realised what an obscenity religion was. I am happy to observe the code of ethics that the Old Testament espouses, but I have come to realise that despite Jesus and Muhammad being prophets and exhorting folk to live by these codes their works were pointless as “loonies” now justify their means by claiming Jesus/Muhammad.

          • Laurence Charles Ringo

That doesn’t answer the question,”mrpoohead”, it simply compounds your ignorance.Man up and explain yourself, since you obviously have nothing relevant to say…

          • mrpoohead

The country is currently up the creek without a paddle thanks to the banking sector and the lacklustre politicians in not putting in rules – in fairness that was pre-Obama. He inherited the disaster (I would have turned the job down) and no matter who is “in” you need two generations to balance the books – suck it up!
I arrived on this site thanks to some “afchief” (I think) comment – it was moronic to say the least. I have had a very interesting conversation with “mom2five” and stayed.
We all have relevant things to say – some are irreverent and facetious, some are hateful bile (I’ve found a lot of that here – bizarre for a site claiming to be Christian) and then some are meaningful. You sift through stuff and you find what you want. Please; go forth and multiply.
I have no need to “Man up”, ignoramus.

          • Laurence Charles Ringo

I thought we were talking about Nigeria…and childish name-calling is usually the sign of a sup-par intellect,so…the purpose of such perjorative language on your part would be…because you can,or what?

          • mrpoohead

Well I suggest you don’t start the proceedings with calling me ignorant then. What do you want to know about Nigeria then, as I responded to the question posed?

          • mrpoohead

Wot no response! Jesus preached acceptance and social responsibility – well much of Africa has a better social disparity than the US – all Western countries have a better disparity. Preaching from a lower level is somewhat foolhardy and lamentable. If you ain’t perfect (and you are a million miles away), shut up!

      • mrpoohead

Would you please explain this too much of America – starting with the Jeffs and Koresh’s (difficult I appreciate) and all the other nut-jobs around the country.
Did you know the majority of terrorism in the US (and Europe) is home-grown extremists, not remotely linked to Islam. Islamic extremists make-up less than 5% yet get much more publicity – must be the silly beards and towels I guess.

  • FoJC_Forever

Such cruelty. A two year old cannot be a witch. A witch is a willing participant in evil and a two year old cannot make that decision.

    • acontraryview

What is the minimum age for someone to be labeled a “witch”?

      • Lexical Cannibal

First menstruation. Satan’s pretty picky about what blood is used for his witchcraft pacts. He’s got a whole thing about it.

        • acontraryview

          What about warlocks?

          • Lexical Cannibal

Mmm, no, that’s Beelzebub, not Satan. Common misunderstanding. Hell is surprisingly gender segregated.

      • wandakate

I wouldn’t know exactly but I would think around 12 or 13 possibly, about the age of accountability.

      • mrpoohead

Just have to be American I think.

  • Josey

So sad to see something like this :(( I can only imagine what this baby went through all alone walking the streets looking for scraps and hurting so badly, thank God for these kind souls who found him, may the Lord bless him and heal him.

  • mrpoohead

Any chance those aid folk can come and rescue all those folk pictured on milk cartons in the US?

    • Nidalap

Well, the whereabouts of the people on the milk cartons are generally unknown, so they would have to be located first. After that, the rescuing should probably be left to local law enforcement…

      • mrpoohead

Why, it’s just a good excuse to start shooting folk isn’t it. They’re probably in Eldorado with the Jeffs.

  • Nidalap

How embarrassing for Nigeria! If the mother had been here instead, Planned Parenthood would have worked extremely hard to make sure that such troubling photographs would never be seen…

    • gogo0

pictures of poor, malnourished children living in squalor that parents should not have had in the first place? sounds like an ad in favor of planned parenthood, why would they want to hide that?

      • Nidalap

You can almost see it…a series of the photos with the voiceover…’Don’t send aid, let us kill them.’…

      • hytre64

So, your compassion is so moved that you believe that the child shouldn’t have suffered – and should have been murdered before he ever took a breath?

        • gogo0

if a person is living in squalor and cannot provide for their child, choosing to abort is far more humane than condemnation to the short life of pain and agonizing death that god planned

          • hytre64

God isn’t the one who planned a short life of pain / death for this child. That is the result of choices by this child’s parents and the rulers of their country (hint – it is called free will). God also isn’t the one calling to give this child an even shorter life and a painful death by killing it in the womb.

          • gogo0

free will? oh, so then you dont believe in god’s plan, then. interesting.

back on topic, since you just absolved god of any responsibility for suffering and placed it on humanity, lets be clear on which of these do you support:
            1. dying quick and easily
            2. tortuously dying over months after a short life filled with tragedy and sorrow

i know you choose the one that is basically child torture, but i wanted to spell out what those who put no thought into the term ‘pro-life’ are condoning and actively perpetuating.

    • wandakate

They would have aborted the child!

      • Nidalap

Yep. I was being a little too subtle there, I think…

  • acontraryview

A sad story with a happy ending. I wonder where he parents got the idea of a someone being a “witch”? Perhaps they watched a documentary on the Pilgrims.

    • DRND1

The Pilgrims did not persecute their women as witches. You are thinking of the Puritans. They are not the same thing. Know your history!

      • acontraryview

My bad. I modified my post.

        • DRND1

Thank you! I just get tired of people thinking they are the same. Sorry if I snapped at you. 🙂

          • acontraryview

            No worries.

  • Chrissy Vee

    :'( <-♥-<

  • Chrissy Vee

Of course the starving for attention vultures are here spewing their arrogant idiocy. Classless fools.

  • BeBeX

There are many names for satan, the serpent of old, the great dragon, devil (Rev. 12:9); beelzebub (Matt.12:24); lucifer (Isaiah 14:12-14); prince of the power of the air (Ephesians 2:1-2); god of this age (2 Corinthians 4:4) and the list goes on. Satan is trying to imitate GOD is everything he does.

  • Grace Kim Kwon

Thank God for the rescue. The aid worker in photo looks like a real witch with all her tattoos on her. Tattoos are prohibited in the Word of God and they defile the human body, fund blasphemous businesses, promote sexual immorality, hurt wearers and viewers’ health, are the marks of violent gang members and prostitutes, and prepare mankind for getting the mark of the beast. Christians must stay away from getting tattoos.

  • sammy13

We are in the 21st century and still superstition exists. How terrible. God bless this boy and the aid worker.
