Vandals Charged for Spray-Painting ‘Trump’ Among Hate Slurs, Vulgar Imagery in University Chapel

Northwest U-compressedCHICAGO — Two Chicago-area university students are facing criminal charges after they allegedly spray-painted the campus chapel with offensive hate slurs and vulgar imagery on the walls, along with the word “Trump.”

Freshmen Anthony Morales, 19, and Matthew Kafker, 18, are accused of entering Northwestern University’s Alice Millar Chapel on Thursday night and vandalizing the hallway and stairwell.

According to reports, the two painted profanity and a racist slur with a swastika on the chapel hallway, wrote “fag” on another wall and painted over photographs of Muslim students.

Morales and Kafker also painted images of male reproductive organs in several other locations, including above the word “God” and on the Jeanne Vail Chapel organ. In the stairwell, they wrote the word “Trump.”

Officials found the vandalism the following morning and contacted a university dean.

“It’s disturbing to think that someone who’s been in this space would be venting some sort of rage that way,” university chaplain Tim Stevens told the New York Daily News. “I feel bad for them that they can’t handle it in a more productive way.”

Police reviewed the chapel’s surveillance video to identify the suspects. According to reports, Morales and Kafker admitted to the crime after being taken into custody.

The teens were charged with criminal damage to property, institutional vandalism and the commission of a hate crime for desecrating a house of worship. They were released on Saturday after 10 percent was posted of their $50,000 bail.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Judge Peggy Chiampas sharply rebuked Morales and Kafker during their bond hearing.

“These allegations are disgusting to me,” she declared.

University President Morton Shapiro also issued a statement condemning the vandalism, which he called “abhorrent.”

“This disgusting act of hatred violates the deepest values and core commitments of our university and is an affront to us all,” he stated.

Most of the graffiti has been removed, and the remainder will be tackled on Monday or Tuesday. Morales and Kafker have been placed on interim suspension, meaning that they are temporarily banned from the campus.

    Blasphemy.

  • Gott Mit Uns!

The word “f-g” is a homophobic slur and should not be used in this article.

    • Amos Moses

late 13c., “bundle of twigs bound up,” also fagald, faggald, from Old French faqot “bundle of sticks” (13c.), of uncertain origin, probably from Italian faqqotto “bundle of sticks,” diminutive of Vulgar Latin *facus, from Latin fascis “bundle of wood” (see fasces).

Especially used for burning heretics (emblematic of this from 1550s), so that phrase fire and faqqot was used to indicate “punishment of a heretic.” Heretics who recanted were required to wear an embroidered figure of a faqqot on the sleeve as an emblem and reminder of what they deserved.

So if it was ever a slur against anyone, it was against heretics…… but if one uses it in its modern parlance… it is STILL describing that. It is also the root of the word fascist… so the term homo-fascist is most appropriate.

      • Gott Mit Uns!

If the article will not include racial slurs, it should not include homophobic slurs.

        • Amos Moses

Race is not a sin, being a homosexual is not the same, and as i said, if it is a slur, it is against heretics, and homosexuals,,,, are heretics.

          • Gott Mit Uns!

            1) Race is not a “sin,” but the behavior of race-mixing can be considered a “sin.” Homosexuality is not a “sin.”

            2) “Sin” is irrelevant in a civil society.

          • Amos Moses

You have no evidence from scripture that “race-mixing” is a sin. So… fail or provide it. Provide the scripture… not what some people think.

Sin is ALWAYS relevant to a civil society. If it is not “relevant, then IT IS NOT CIVIL. Murder, rape, and theft are all sins and RELEVANT.

As always, personal interpretation of biblical scripture varies. As Judge Leon M. Bazile ruled in his 1965 decision in Loving v. Virginia, “Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, malay and red, and he placed them on separate continents. And but for the interference with his arrangement, there would be no cause for such marriages. The fact that he separated the races shows that he did not intend for the races to mix.”

Nowhere in the Bible is homosexuality designated as a “sin,” especially in regards to non-Jews.

          • Amos Moses

“As always, personal interpretation of biblical scripture varies. ”

There is no personal interpretation………So FAIL!

Loving v Virginia does not apply….. FAIL!

“Nowhere in the Bible is homosexuality designated as a “sin,” especially in regards to non-Jews.”

            A lie and ……….. FAIL!

“Because I said so” is not a legitimate response.

          • Amos Moses

            Because SCRIPTURE says so………………

2Pet 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

          • Gott Mit Uns!

It’s ALWAYS going to be someone’s private interpretation.

          • Amos Moses

Sorry, if it is a private interpretation……….. then it is NOT SCRIPTURE.

          • Becky

It varies only when you don’t study the entire bible…daily…line upon line, precept upon precept (2 Timothy 2:15; Isa 28:9,10) .

The scriptures do not teach that there is more than one race. According to scripture, a person that is from another nation is not considered another race. In Nehemiah 13:3 it makes a reference to a “mixed multitude” who didn’t obey God’s law and therefore he separated his people from those “pagans”. In verses 23-31, it clearly points out that the Jews were not to marry “pagan women”. Also, in Exodus 12, the “mixed multitude” that accompanied Israel were referred to as “sojourners” or “strangers” (vss. 45, 48-49), which clearly indicated they were from another nation. Incidentally, a sojourner/stranger that converted was welcomed into God’s family and treated as one born from the nation of Israel (Isaiah 56:3-8).

The bible is clear…it repeatedly says that God’s people were not to marry those from other nations, because they were pagans/idolaters/unbelievers. The bible is also clear that every human being came from our first parents, Adam and Eve.

Acts 17:26, “And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth…”

Genesis 3:20, “And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.”

Gen 9:19, “These three were the sons of Noah, and from these the whole earth was populated.”

          • Mark B

The word race was originally a wider term to include any type of group of people you can define. The common definition of race came from Hitler’s love of Eugenics… where genetics could prove there was a master race. Hence the common definition of racist was actually a positive thing Hitler was proud to use for himself.

This is why you can easily find what you’re describing you find in the bible…

They reported the truth of what the guys spray painted, so it’s just a report of the what they wrote, they also drew a swastika and used other profanity, get over it, just a news report of the facts.

      • Gott Mit Uns!

Then, the article needs to include the racial slur as well as the homophobic slur.

      Go to your safe space.

Gay blogs constantly smear Christians, but that’s OK, isn’t it? Sounds like you have free speech issues.

  • bowie1

They can’t go after Trump so they vandalize the university chapel. How did they think that would hurt Trump?

    • gizmo23

How do you know they were going after Trump?

      • bowie1

Well they did spray paint his name so I assume they had some axe to grind with him.

        • gizmo23

They could very well be supporters thinking they are doing him good.

    how is this news worthy?
