‘Non-Theistic’ Satanic Temple Says Texas Rule to Bury, Cremate Aborted Babies Violates Their Religious Beliefs

SALEM, Mass. — The Massachusetts-based Satanic Temple has released a statement asserting that a new Texas rule requiring abortionists to have the remains of aborted babies buried or cremated violates their religious beliefs.

“The Satanic Temple believes burial rites are a well-established component of religious practice,” it wrote on Saturday. “This is undisputed in the entirety of US legal history. In addition, members of The Satanic Temple believe in the inviolability of the body and, as such, these rules contradict our fundamental beliefs.”

As previously reported, the rule, requested by Gov. Greg Abbott, was finalized last Monday and is set to take effect on Dec. 19.

“Governor Abbott believes human and fetal remains should not be treated like medical waste, and the proposed rule changes affirms the value and dignity of all life,” spokesperson Ciara Matthew said in a statement in July when the proposal was first announced. “For the unborn, the mothers and the hospital and clinic staff, the governor believes it is imperative to establish higher standards that reflect our respect for the sanctity of life.”

Abortion facilities customarily contract with third party medical waste companies to dispose of the aborted babies, which are usually classified as “pathological waste.” The containers of aborted babies, mixed in with boxes of bodily fluids, tissues and other items that are not permitted to be thrown in the trash, are then transported to an incineration plant where they are burned into ash and then dumped into landfills.

However, current Texas law also allows for other types of disposal, including “grinding and discharging to a sanitary sewer system,” “chlorine disinfection/maceration followed by deposition in a sanitary landfill” or other “approved alternate treatment process, provided that the process renders the item as unrecognizable, followed by deposition in a sanitary landfill.”

The new law will now mandate that abortionists utilize services provided by funeral homes rather than medical waste companies.

But The Satanic Temple says that it can’t comply with the rule because of its beliefs. It points to the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) as its basis for refusal and states that it will “require legal support to protect the rights of our members.”

“The First Amendment protects our right to practice our beliefs, and under the Religious Freedom Reform Act (RFRA), the State must present a compelling reason for why they want to enforce rules that inhibit adherence to our religious practices,” the group stated. “Clearly, the State of Texas has no compelling reason because these rules were not enacted to promote health and safety, but rather to harass and burden women who terminate their pregnancies.”

As previously reported, The Satanic Temple, which identifies as a “non-theistic” organization, does not believe in God or Satan, but contends that one can be religious without a belief in the supernatural.

“It is the position of The Satanic Temple that religion can, and should, be divorced from superstition. As such, we do not promote a belief in a personal Satan,” the group’s website reads. “To embrace the name Satan is to embrace rational inquiry removed from supernaturalism and archaic tradition-based superstitions.”

“Satan is symbolic of the Eternal Rebel in opposition to arbitrary authority, forever defending personal sovereignty even in the face of insurmountable odds,” it states. “Satan is an icon for the unbowed will of the unsilenced inquirer—the heretic who questions sacred laws and rejects all tyrannical impositions.”

So what do these satan worshippers want?

    • Palsgraf’s Scale

To remove the law requiring fetuses be cremated or buried, specifically, and to use the religious liberty argument the same way christian groups do, generally.

Legally speaking, its clever. Any theological argument the christian groups can make, the Satanist groups can make in the negative and place the state in a bind.

      • zeddicuskotor

They’re doing the same here in Little Rock. The christians here are trying to erect a ten commandments monument on capital grounds, so the Satanists are asking for the same right to erect their own statue. The constitution hating christians in government will try to deny the satanists, but they’ll lose.

    • Pegasus

Attention, just like three-year-old brats want.

    • Amos Moses

they want a statue of Molech with the furnace in the midst …… Molechs hands reaching out ….. the hands blistering hot from the furnace ….. and have the parents lay their child on the palms of the idol ….. and when the baby screams … many drums to play loudly to drown it out …….

      • Croquet_Player

You should write for Hollywood. I don’t care for horror films myself, but I understand they’re very popular, and you seem to have the knack for inventing horror out of thin air.

        • p78

You’re a jerk. Your position is myopic at best!

        • Amos Moses

Dante wrote it … and it is true …..

  • robertzaccour

Are satanists for real or are they just trolls? There really seems to be no positive side of satanism.

    • They are for-real trolls. They really want the stupid, the hurtful, the insane.

How dare others express their religious opinion!? Who do they think this country is that protects religious freedom and all of that evil sinful stuff!?

  • Grace Kim Kwon

USA should not mix the Good (Christianity) and the evil (Satanism) and treat them equal. Aiming mere co-existence brings the reign of the evil because humans are sinners. Man needs Christian education for salvation and morality and protection of children. All Non-judeo-christian ideologies harm children greatly. Human rights and freedom and wholesome morality and protection of children are impossible apart from Christianity.

    • zeddicuskotor

Thanks for admitting that you hate America.

      • Royce E. Van Blaricome

Thanks for showing you have NO clue what “love” is. Or “hate” or even “America”.

A wise man once said it is better to keep your mouth shut and not show your ignorance than open it and remove all doubt.

“Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something.” – Plato

You should work on your wisdom.

        • zeddicuskotor

America isn’t and never will be a theocracy. Those that think otherwise are a enemy to all of us that hold this country so dear.

          • Royce E. Van Blaricome

I don’t know anybody who ever thought America was or is a theocracy. Only the delusional and the spiritually-dead who suffer from paranoia would think such a thing.

I also don’t think you can claim to be in the “us” who hold this country “so dear”. Especially given that you and your ilk are trying so hard to destroy it and rewrite History to redefine it.

And btw, being a Christian and supporting the Constitution along with the 1st Amendment doesn’t equate to desiring the USA to be a theocracy.

          • zeddicuskotor

Grace does, you are just too delusional and biased to notice. If you were spiritually alive, like I am, you would agree.

“your ilk are trying so hard to destroy it and rewrite History to redefine it.”

Like how America is a secular democracy and you theocrats will never be able to change that? Yeah, we know.

“And btw, being a Christian and supporting the Constitution along with
the 1st Amendment doesn’t equate to desiring the USA to be a theocracy.”

There are some christians that value this country and its values. You don’t.

          • Royce E. Van Blaricome

No, I know Grace and I’m almost certain that she doesn’t believe the USA should be a theocracy but I will let her speak for herself. Should she be mistaken in such a belief, I have no doubt I could have a short convo with her and she’d agree it never was and never should be.

Besides that, I do KNOW this, you’re not omniscient as God has not saw fit to share that attribute of Himself with anyone. So you should drop the faux omniscience and stop thinking you can read Grace’s mind or anyone else’s.

And you’re not spiritually-alive because if you were you would not be spewing the garbage coming outta your mouth that you are. Your last sentence is proof.

Btw, America is NOT a “secular democracy”. America isn’t a Democracy at all. Thanks for showing your utter ignorance of basic FACT!!

I’ll have you know that I served this country in the Military for 20yrs and that’s all the proof I need to say to prove you’re a Liar. Liars are children of the father of all Lies just as Jesus said.

I’ve made sacrifices, as have all who’ve worn the uniform, that folks who never have can never know or even fully understand. Let me guess, you’ve never served a day in the Military? Yes? Of course you can come back and say you have and none of us will ever truly know but I do know this – your very comment lends to a whole lot of evidence that you never have and YOU are the one who doesn’t value this country or ITS VALUES!!!!

And thanks once again that all you spiritually-dead can do is lie and engage in name-calling. It’s to be expected when one doesn’t have any substance and can only walk according to the Flesh, the course of The World, and the prince of power of the air.

          • Grace Kim Kwon

Thank you so much. US soldiers indeed rescued Europe and Asia and Africa( that’s most of the world on the planet). I just do not want a society that bullies people for expressing oppositions to the evils such as Satanism and immorality in the land of America. Liberals are tyrants. If today’s youth is this much against what is Good (Christianity), the future looks truly bleak. We must speak out the truth for the honor of God and also to protect the children from the Nazi Youth.

          • Grace Kim Kwon

US Constitution is nothing comparing to the Holy Bible. UK existed way before USA. Americans must acknowledge taking stuff from the Holy Bible and from the Christian UK. America was created to be a Christian utopia, not a Sodom. Yes, learn the history.

          • zeddicuskotor

Thanks for admitting that you hate America and wish for its destruction. It makes things so much more easier for us true Patriots to expose the enemies of this country and destroy them.

          • Grace Kim Kwon

I love America. True Patriots are all Christian. You Anti-Americans are trying to destroy America from within by imposing unthinkable immorality. Stop burning American flags or disrespecting the anthems. Go back to your European caves or whatever else if you so hate the slender hard-working white Christian American pioneers who created America.

          • zeddicuskotor

Thanks again for admitting that you hate America. America isnt and never will be a theocracy. No matter how much you express your perverted desire otherwise.

          • Grace Kim Kwon

America is a theocracy. Americans are supposed to submit to God alone and to no one else. Today’s USA’s secular culture is perverted and tyrannical. USA need Christianity for freedom and justice.

          • zeddicuskotor

America can only be a theocracy if you’re successful in destroying our secular constitution. You’ll be stopped, however, by true Americans if you tried.

          • Grace Kim Kwon

America is already being destroyed by infanticide and immorality and addictions. Americans need Christian education to be proper. Mankind do not have human rights or freedom apart from the Holy Bible. Complete theocracy is brought by Lord Jesus. Planet Earth belongs to God; nothing belongs to humans including Americans. You must repent of your sins to get saved. Read John chapter 3 and Jude chapter 1.

          • zeddicuskotor

America is much stronger than before, thanks to efforts by real americans to prevent traitors, such as yourself, from destroying this great country.

          • Grace Kim Kwon

No, America is going down because of immorality. Its Christians are the only hope. America needs national repentance to live again.

          • zeddicuskotor

Yes, America is going up by most available metrics, thanks to our country becoming more liberal, free, and multicultural. Which is a threat to you, so you wish to destroy what is good and decent. That’s your nature.

          • Grace Kim Kwon

? You just lost election. Yes, Sodomic USA is bad to the world, but God will judge all nations in His time and bring His justice. Today’s Western culture is neither good or decent. Every culture has deadly defects that need to be fixed by the Christian Church to be humane. You must stop destroying America’s innocent unborn children.

          • zeddicuskotor

Actually we won the election, and social norms are increasing, in spite of you losers being in charge of anything.

          • Albie

            Planet Earth belongs to Odin

          • Grace Kim Kwon

God created the heavens and the earth. ( Genesis chpater 1, John chapter 1, Colossians chapter 1) Odin does not exist. Europe had gotten out of the barbarism of worshiping Odin or whatever demons by converting to Christianity more than 10 centuries ago. The Western civilization’s excellence comes from solely knowing the God of the Holy Bible. Other civilizations had everything similar and better except for the knowledge of the one true living God. Today’s Post-christian West does not convert into any decent religion but only blasphemes Christianity, uses Eastern spirituality to worship the filthy self, and forces immorality. Being secular Western means being nudist immoral today. This fact alone proves that Christianity is the truth. The West needs Christianity to be true and good.

          • Albie

…and it with the same zest and fervor that you can say Odin does not exist, i say the same thing about your god …. Odin and your god, and Ra, and baal are all the same …. stories passed down, written down, and changed over time… but in the end all contain mythology and lore

          • Grace Kim Kwon

You are wrong. The God of Israel is not at all like those false gods. Secular West fell into grave errors by equating Christianity with other religions; that’s why De-christianized West worships only homosexuality and nudism and nothing else. You should seriously study the truth and make comparison. Salvation is only in Jesus Christ. Read the Holy Bible to find the truth. You must repent of your sins to get saved.

          • Albie

            koo koo

          • Grace Kim Kwon

Americans bully others when they are not Christian. Read the Holy Bible and repent your evil. Read John chapter 3.

          • Albie

Read “oh the places we will go” or even the “Hobbit” … mythological good and evil exists in lots of literary works

          • Grace Kim Kwon

Those authors were Christian theologians; they used the fantasy genre to communicate God’s truth with children. Read “Mere Christianity” written by C.S.Lewis. He also wrote the Chronicles of Narnia.

          • Grace Kim Kwon

Thank you for trying to defend me so kindly. When one reads Mayflower Compact and other founding documents and the hymn-like national anthems, all of former English colonies do sound like a sure Christendom. Because Christianity is so deeply rooted, maybe the Westerners don’t feel how thoroughly Christian-built their nations are. I always thought all the crosses on the flags of white men’s nations were of Christianity. One only notices about self when compared with others.

          • Royce E. Van Blaricome

Oh you’re welcome. There is no doubt that the Christian-Judeo beliefs had a major impact on the formation of this country and our founding documents. But nothing ever came even close to being Theocratic.

          • Grace Kim Kwon

I understand the moderners’ allergic reaction to the word “theocracy,” but really, noble American fathers dreamed about God’s reign as it is in Heaven and nothing less. Royce, I used to believe in secularism’s neutral kind of fairness, but not anymore, after seeing everything that is happening this century since 1980’s. The promise of theocracy by Christ to be actualized is the only hope on earth for all humans. Of course we can’t impose the Christian standard of conduct upon everyone, but at least we should not allow the society to bully Christians for opposing Satanism, blasphemies, infanticide, suicide, or sexual immorality. They hurt children and defenseless ones the most. Humans abuse each other, no matter what. T T May Lord Jesus come back very soon.

          • Royce E. Van Blaricome

More like Unbelievers reaction to the word. Modern Christians don’t have a problem with it either. Or at least shouldn’t!

While there were no doubt SOME American fathers who dreamed about God’s reign as it is in Heaven and nothing less, there was also no doubt some Founding Fathers who did not,. There’s enough historical documents to bear that out.

The problem with a Theocracy now is that we are still in a fallen state. Even the most mature Christian that is closest to the image of Christ will still sin and error. And that is why we know there is not to be a Theocracy on earth now. And THAT is why the idiotic atheists who claim Christians want a theocracy are only showing themselves to be fools.

But one day the Lord Jesus will set up His reign and then it will be the Theocracy we all look forward to!! Maranatha!! Even so, come Lord Jesus!!

          • Grace Kim Kwon

Amen. Yes, we look for Lord Jesus’ glorious return and His reign. Christian USA did so much life-saving good on earth.

          • Grace Kim Kwon

America does not exist apart from God. America has no greater threat than its own self-imposed deadly immorality. Other empires fall at the hands of human enemies. Israel and UK and USA go down by their own evil doing if they go down.

      • Grace Kim Kwon

Americans are being hated today because today’s American culture is hopelessly immoral. You guys need Christian values for sanity and for the right way of thinking and for fairness. Americans were utmost respected and loved on Planet Earth even when they carried racism like the rest of mankind. Today’s well-fed freeloader-generation must never slander the hard-working slender previous generations. You have no rights to.

  • Trilemma

It’s very common for atheists to have their bodies buried or cremated. Just because Christians may be promoting this law does not mean religion is being promoted. As far as I can tell, this law doesn’t require any sort of religious ceremony associated with the burial or cremation. If the law fails in the courts, it will be because it makes abortion harder to get and not for religious freedom reasons.

    • james blue

The law is unnecessary. The only involvement the state should have in disposal of remains is regulations regarding public health. Note that the law only applies to aborted fetuses, not miscarried fetuses.

      • Trilemma

The fact that the law doesn’t apply to miscarried fetuses shows that the true intent of the law is to make abortions more expensive and, therefore, harder to get. I think the law should require aborted fetuses and miscarried fetuses to be incinerated unless the mother requests burial or cremation.

  • Royce E. Van Blaricome

I love this! It forces people to choose. Truth or Lie! It forces the idiotic PC stuff to either be stopped or get worse. Either way God wins and we Christians win!

These kind of lawsuits are gonna force the courts to decide just how they are gonna deal with the lies that are and have been allowed to continue. Like “Church & State” and what exactly does the 1st Amendment means. They can go with Proverbs 14:12 which points to Romans 6:23 or they can go with the Truth that brings life.

The really great thing about this story is that the Satanists are helping God’s will to be done and they don’t even see it!!

    • zeddicuskotor

The establishment clause will be strengthened by such rulings, much to theocrats displeasure.

      • Royce E. Van Blaricome

If the “Establishment Clause” is strengthened it would be to the displeasure of those “theocrats” as you refer to them. Rather it will be to yours because it will go back to being what it once was and what it was intended to me. Just like one day “Marriage” and “Love” and even “Gay’ will be.

But I don’t expect the spiritually-dead to be able to see and understand that.

        • zeddicuskotor

Exactly. The spiritually dead, those that hate religious freedom, hate the idea of loving couples starting a family together, and hate women the most will be thwarted yet again by our wonderful secular Constitution.

          • Royce E. Van Blaricome

Best do a little study on what it means to be “spiritually-dead”. You obviously have NO clue.

And, despite your lie, the Constitution never was, never has been, and never will be a “secular Constitution”. The indisputable proof is in the Constitution itself. One can debate until the cows come home the history of the Founding Fathers and their various beliefs but one can NOT debate what is clearly shown in Black & White in the Constitution itself.

ALL those who signed onto the Constitution signed onto the fact that Jesus Christ is Lord!!!!

Oh, and btw, I don’t expect you to understand this but Christians believe in Religious Freedom and the “Separation of Church & State” just as Jefferson explained it to be!!!!

          • zeddicuskotor

Your opinion on what it means to be spiritual is less than useful. Your bitter hateful nature corrupts your mind to the full understanding.

“And, despite your lie, the Constitution never was, never has been, and never will be a “secular Constitution”.”

Case and point. You only know how to destroy everything that is actually good and loving in this country. The Constitution is secular and will remain so.

“ALL those who signed onto the Constitution signed onto the fact that Jesus Christ is Lord!!!!”

And yet not a single one of them thought fit to include your superstitious nonsense into the Constitution. On the contrary, it specifically makes it irrelevant to secular governance. Imagine that.

          • Royce E. Van Blaricome

Your faux omniscience fails you again and clouds your judgment.

My definition on what it means to be spiritual is not my opinion. Christians don’t have “opinions” on spiritual matters and the Word of God. There is only speaking truth about what God says or lying about it.

First of all, you have NO clue, not one iota of an idea, what I “only know how to’ do. Thanks for showing, once again, that is all you spiritually-dead have. That’s all you can do. Simply call people names, spew ad hominem, and lay false claims upon others. Another false accuser of the brethren and a clear sign of who your father is.

The Constitution is NOT secular. Never was, never has been, and never will be a “secular Constitution”. Your denying that will NEVER change that fact. As I said, the words of the Constitution printed in black & white PROVE that. No document that refers to Jesus as “our Lord” is a “secular document”. But thanks for showing yourself as a liar again and completely discrediting yourself.

Perhaps one day you’ll come to understand that no matter how long you tell your lies, no matter how often you tell your lies, no matter how loud you tell your lies, it will NEVER change the Truth.

What you’ve just shown everyone is that you have NO idea what is “actually good and loving in this country.”

“And yet not a single one of them thought fit to include your superstitious nonsense into the Constitution. On the contrary, it specifically makes it irrelevant to secular governance.”

Thanks for showing yourself an outright Liar again. For anyone who can read and understand English can see that if false.

            Imagine that!!

          • Albie

…and yet every court ruling continues to enforce and strengthen the position and argument of a secular constitution and nation

          • Royce E. Van Blaricome

Evidently you’re not following the news lately. Most recent Federal Court decision shot down another attempt to have “In God We Trust” taken off our money. Hmmm, doesn’t sound secular. Then there was the Hobby Lobby case not all that long ago. That certainly wasn’t “secular”.

Perhaps a Dictionary or Google would help you. I’ll help you now and put it here for all to see:

Secular: denoting attitudes, activities, or other things that have no religious or spiritual basis.

So no, the Constitution nor this nation are even close to being Secular. Or are y’all trying to redefine that word too like you have tried to do with others?

The very words of the Constitution guarantee it will never be a secular document and that neither will this nation be as long as it is followed.
So it’s more like upheld, enforced, and strengthened Religious Freedom and THAT is CHRISTIAN!!

          • Saunders61

You are basing your argument on the numerous time Jesus or Christ is mentioned in the Constitution?…That would be 0 Your freedom of religion requires my freedom from religion.

          • Royce E. Van Blaricome

That would be a LIE. Better read it again.

          • Saunders61

Have read it multiple times, in fact, I teach it to the young curious minds of university students.

          • Royce E. Van Blaricome

Oh great. Another blind guide. Thanks for admitting you teach Indoctrination instead of Education at some institution of ‘Higher LEARNING”!!

Indoctrination is bad enough and NO surprise but it’s pretty pathetic when you ignore what’s in black & white. Hopefully they’ll see it for themselves and then you’ll be marked for the liar and fraud that you are since you’re teaching those “curious minds” lies.

            Shame on you!

          • Saunders61

Yawn!! Your claims sans proof are tiresome.

          • Royce E. Van Blaricome

Yawn!! Your claims sans proof are tiresome. Not to mention your ability to publicly show your blind ignorance and laziness is amazing.

Besides, you’re the professor! Why should i have to provide you with the proof????? Already told you, it’s right there in black & white for all to see!!

But hey, thanks again for showing everyone who’s indoctrinating our kids!!

          • Saunders61

It’s called the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment, right there in black and white. I doubt a retired low level naval officer is trained to read the Constitution…Although engineers being incapable of abstract or original thought I don’t blame you for your confusion.

          • Royce E. Van Blaricome

Thank you for once again showing your public blindness, ignorance, and evident inability to even read and understand. It’s helpful to all to see who colleges are letting indoctrinate their children.

First of all, the Establishment Clause, while not what I was referring to, is evidence of Jesus Christ the Lord being mentioned and quite contrary to our supposition it does NOT give you any freedom “from” Him.

As for the rest of your vomit spewed, I couldn’t care less about your doubts as to my ability to read the Constitution or the obvious fiery dart that came with it but it does speak to your ignorant bias and arrogance.

Moreover the evidence in black & white is still there that you haven’t even seen!! Although being spiritual-dead and incapable of abstract or original thought I don’t blame you for your confusion.

          • libertynottyranny

‘ALL those who signed onto the Constitution signed onto the fact that Jesus Christ is Lord!!!!”

“And yet not a single one of them thought fit to include your superstitious nonsense into the Constitution. On the contrary, it specifically makes it irrelevant to secular governance. Imagine that.’

And yet, it is you that deludes himself. From the closing endorsement section ‘ of the U.S. Constitution, just preceding the signatories, we have this:

Done in convention by the unanimous consent of the states present the seventeenth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven and of the independence of the United States of America the twelfth.
