Roman Catholic Priest Receives Standing Ovation After Announcing His Identification as Homosexual

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. — A Roman Catholic priest in Wisconsin received a standing ovation this past Sunday after announcing during the service that he identifies as a homosexual.

“I am Greg. I am a Roman Catholic priest. And, yes, I am gay!” declared Gregory Greiten of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Milwaukee, causing those present to rise to their feet, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The National Catholic Reporter also published an article on Monday in which Greiten outlined how he repressed his feelings for years, and later came to embrace them, while also keeping them hidden from others.

“Over the past year, I came to the realization that I could no longer live the lie of masquerading as a straight man in the priesthood,” he wrote.

Greiten also expressed his view that the Roman Catholic Church should allow priests to be open about their same-sex attraction, while also remaining celibate. He referred to the matter as being “authentic” to one’s true self.

“Today, I stand with these few courageous priests who have taken the risk to come out of the shadows and have chosen to live in truth and authenticity,” Greiten wrote.

“I promise to be my authentically gay self. I will embrace the person that God created me to be,” he stated. “In my priestly life and ministry, I, too, will help you, whether you are gay or straight, bisexual or transgendered, to be your authentic self—to be fully alive living in your image and likeness of God. In reflecting our God-images out into the world, our world will be a brighter, more tolerant place.”

Greiten said that he believed that announcing his homosexual feelings was among the “[f]irst steps in accepting and loving the person God created me to be.”

“I am breaking through the silence and reclaiming my voice—silent words to prophetic words, despairing words to hopeful words, angry words to forgiving words, and sad words to joy-filled words, with the passion of the words attributed to a great woman saint and doctor of the church, St. Catherine of Siena, ‘Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire,’ Greiten said.

Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome Listecki has backed Greiten’s decision to come out to his congregation.

“We support Father Greiten in his own, personal journey and telling his story of coming to understand and live with his sexual orientation,” he said in a statement. “As the Church teaches, those with same-sex attraction must be treated with understanding and compassion. As priests who have made a promise to celibacy, we know that every week there are people in our pews who struggle with the question of homosexuality.”

As previously reported, Christians believe that homosexuality, like any other inclination that is contrary to the law of God, is a part of the Adamic sin nature that men are born with, leaving them helpless to change themselves.

The late preacher A.W. Pink once wrote, “Why does the sinner choose a life of sinful indulgence? Because he prefers it. Man chooses that which is according to his nature, and therefore, before he will ever choose or prefer that which is divine or spiritual, a new nature must be imparted to him: in other words, he must be born again.”

Because of this inherent nature, Christ instructed that men must be regenerated by the second birth, outlining in John 3:5-7, “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.”

2 Corinthians 5:14-17 also reads, “For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead. And that He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them, and rose again. … Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

      And…God will not be mocked.

For those of us who call Catholicism the seat of Satan, if there was any doubt in your mind, put it away, settled for good. The only image this perverted man is living in is the image of his corrupt god-self, and he has the blessings of his archbishop to boot. It was, was it not, the Pope in matters of this perversion who stated, “Who am I to judge?” therefore setting up the implicitness that perversion will be tolerated in the RCC because even the Pope cannot make a judgment as to its being right or wrong.

    • ThroatwobblerMangrove

The official position of the Roman Catholic Church is that they consider homosexuality a sin, so don’t worry, you still have that much in common with them.

      • Zig

I still have what in common with them? The RC has always spoken out of both sides of their mouths. Watch what they do, not what they say as the saying goes. In fact, isn’t that what fruit in the New Testament is? What you produce, not what you say? Official position my hindfoot. Pedophilia is a sin, but it is practiced wide and far within Catholicism. Don’t give me official position. Rome’s official position changes with the wind.

        • ThroatwobblerMangrove

I don’t know what denomination you are, but I guarantee you there are pedophiles in it too.

          • LynnRH

And I don’t doubt that either. Satan is running rampant in these latter days. And if the day ever comes that I see it happening in my church and that person(s) being allowed to continue on in a leadership roll I will be leaving MY church.

    • LynnRH

He must not be reading the Holy Bible either. Or maybe doing like so many in our society today just picking out the parts he’s okay with and ignoring the parts that doesn’t suit him. That isn’t allowing God to be God.

  • Trilemma

Nowhere in the Bible does it say that being gay is a sin. The priest is chaste and simply being honest about who he is. What sin has he committed? Where’s the apostasy?

    • Vince

Of course he’s “chaste.” Who would crawl into bed with that blimp? He sounds like he’s neurotic as can be.

    • Chet

Surely, if you have any working knowledge of God’s Word whatsoever (the Holy Bible) you know homosexual activity is abomination. Modern man can support such behaviour, God never will…

      • Trilemma

        He’s chaste, so, no abomination.

        • Chet

          Sure…

        • Reason2012

We can sin not just in deed, but in thought and in lust. And this man was proud of announcing he was homosexual – nowhere did he point out it’s sin and warn others of said sin.

          • Trilemma

There’s nothing in the article that indicates he sinned in thought or in lust. He said that he is gay which is not a sin. It was not his choice to be gay.

          • Reason2012

What’;s in the article is clear happiness or pride that he has those attractions, nor any claim or warning from him that such behavior would be a sin at any time, priest or not, warning others of this as well – which makes it look like the only reason he’s remaining celebrate is because he’s a ‘priest’, but if not he’d hence act upon it.

          • If he didn’t have any homosexual thoughts, he wouldn’t call himself “gay”. Furthermore he chose not to go treat his homosexual perversion. So, yes, he did chose to remain with a homosexual problem.

          • Trilemma

Thoughts are not sins. He’s not the one who has a problem with homosexuality.

          • LynnRH

            “Thoughts are not sin”
Matthew 5:28– But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

That sounds pretty plain to me.

          • Trilemma

There’s a big difference between having thoughts about something and lusting over that something. Thoughts come and go. Lustful thoughts are a constant obsession.

          • LynnRH

And when one knows they are having sinful thoughts they need to fall to their knees and ask God’s forgiveness. Then never, never, never let their minds dwell on that sin. Satan will do his best to keep your mind in the gutter but God is bigger than Satan. Tell Satan to get behind you!

          • LynnRH

One can choose to be gay, heterosexual, adulterous, a fornicator, or even to lust after animals for sex. God would not have created a person to be gay if it is an abomination to Him.

          • Trilemma

How did you go about choosing to be heterosexual? What did you do to make yourself attracted to the opposite sex?

          • LynnRH

God made Adam and then made Eve for Adam. Man and woman together for procreation (multiply). God creates all humans to be heterosexual. Then people have the choice of staying with God’s plan or rebelling against His plan. Those that choose to go against Him are sinning against Him and they will suffer the consequences when faced before Him.

          • Trilemma

Why do you think people who are gay chose to be gay? All the testimonies that I’ve read by people who are gay say that they wanted and tried to choose to be heterosexual. Could you truly choose to be sexually attracted to those of the same sex?

According to the Bible, God only created Adam and Eve. After that, it was biology that created humans. And biology doesn’t always work perfectly so you have to accept the way people turn out.

          • LynnRH

God is the creator of everyone. Not just Adam and Eve. Do you really think He isn’t big enough to handle being everyone’s creator?

Psalm 139:13-14: For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
Jeremiah 1:5: I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb.

“Why do you think people who are gay chose to be gay?”
Our sinful nature causes us to choose sin and rebel against God. Yes people are created with a conscience that can convict them when they choose to sin against the Lord. Especially when they are truly saved. Just because we can get saved doesn’t mean we don’t ever make sinful choices again. But when we realize we have it is time to get down on our knees and ask His forgiveness and strength to overcome Satan’s temptations.

No I have to say I am not sexually attracted to people of the same sex as I am. I don’t have trouble with that but I do have certain sins that I do struggle with. We all have our areas of weakness that Satan knows about and LOVES to rub it in your face! Every time I find myself getting weak in that area I have to get my eyes back on Jesus and out of the gutter.

          • Trilemma

If God creates everyone just the way He wants them, then why does God create some with spina bifida or Anencephaly or any of the other serious birth defects?

I take Psalm 139:13-14 and Jeremiah 1:5 to be speaking figuratively.

I assumed you were not attracted to people of the same sex. But could you consciously choose to be? You say you have areas of weakness. Did God create you with those weaknesses? Is it a sin to have those weaknesses?

          • LynnRH

spina bifida, anencephaly or any of the other serious birth defects are a result of sin in the world. God put a perfect soul in even those precious human beings. Having any of these birth defects are not a result of those people’s choices to sin against God.

And I suppose it would be as easy to choose to be sexually attracted to someone of the opposite sex if I kept my mind in the gutter long enough. I don’t know I haven’t tried that. And I won’t be. Just like if I think about having an adulterous affair or numerous sex partners long enough and kick God out of my business. I could probably talk myself into those things too. I prefer to keep my eyes on Jesus.

          • Trilemma

You’re the first person to answer my question; could you consciously choose to be gay? You gave a good answer.

You say that serious birth defects are the result of sin in the world. Couldn’t a birth defect also result in someone being naturally attracted to people of the same sex? You said you have weaknesses that presumably you did not choose to have. Are your weaknesses sins? What if someone’s weakness is the attraction to people of the same sex? Such people did not choose that weakness any more than you chose your weaknesses. Isn’t sin the giving into a weakness rather than the weakness itself?

          • LynnRH

They haven’t actually found any evidence in people’s DNA to show how it causes a person to be homosexual anymore than there is DNA to make one a adulterer, a child molester, a fornicator, a theif, a murderer. Those are all sinful choices. Mine or anyone else’s sinful weaknesses are not because of any DNA problem. It is because Satan is at work. We are not going to get away from those sinful influences until we get to Heaven. But God does give us the Holy Ghost (after being saved) to call on His strength to overcome those weaknesses.

“Isn’t sin the giving into a weakness rather than the weakness itself?”
We definitely should not give into a weakness that God said is a sin against Him that is for sure. But He also says, ” Even if you look at someone with lust in your heart you have already commited adultery.” adultery is just another of many types of sexual sin. If God doesn’t want you to sin against Him why, for lands sake, would He give you that sinful weakness to struggle with? He did not create anyone to sin against Him or even have a weakness to do so. We can thank Satan for that one. But we can also thank God for His son Jesus for His gift of salvation so that even though we are not sinless in this God-forsakened world we are saved sinners and should respect Him enough to do our very best to keep our eyes on Him and out of the gutter. And we should CERTAINLY not accuse HIm that it is His fault we have that sin nature.

    • ppp777

Really , read Judges and Geneses nineteen and romans one , that would be a good start .

      • Trilemma

Judges and Genesis 19 describe men wanting to rape men. The sexual orientation of the would be rapists is not given so there is nothing there that could be used to say that being gay is a sin. The issue is rape not homosexuality.

Romans 1 does not actually talk about sex between people of the same sex. But even if it did, the sexual orientation of the people is not given and only behavior is mentioned. The behavior applies to everyone both homosexual and heterosexual. There’s nothing there that could be used to say that simply being gay is a sin.

        • ppp777

Put simply they are ” reprobates ” and are not to be trusted .

          • Trilemma

The Bible does not support your opinion.

          • ppp777

            That’s what you say .

    • LynnRH

“Nowhere in the Bible does it say that being gay is a sin.”
Leviticus 20:13– If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

Well I don’t know how to get any plainer than that. Yes as far as we know of this priest hasn’t acted out this sin but who really knows. all we have is his word. but the thing i’m appauled about is that he’s proud enough about it that he wants everyone to know. When I have commited sins against the Lord i’m so deeply ashamed of it I want to hide it from everyone. I know I can’t hide it from my Heavenly Father God so He is the only One I go to and humbly pray for His forgiveness. And then I do my best to stay away from that sin.

      • Trilemma

What sin did he commit that he wanted everyone to know about? The only sin I see him confessing to is the sin of lying about who he is. He decided to repent of this lie and tell the truth about himself to his congregation.

        • LynnRH

Admitting to everyone that he has made the choice of being homosexual and apparently does not have any shame in that. Just embrases it like as if God created him that way. God does not create anyone to sin against him. It’s a choice just like being an adulterer, fornicator, murderer, liar, thief, etc.

          • Trilemma

If he could have chosen to be heterosexual he would have instead of contemplating suicide.

          • LynnRH

Satan is the one who puts the choice in your heart to be homosexual. Or any other sin. Satan is also busy planting suicide in people’s mind. When we recognize these sins we need to get on our knees and humbly pray to the Lord to forgive you and give you the strength to say, “Satan get behind me?”

  • Garden of Love

I don’t know what his religion is, but he isn’t Christian. Christians have always believed that you find your “authentic self” when you repent of your sins and begin a new life as a child of God. The secular culture has latched on this thing about “this is my identity,” but it has no place in Christianity, where your ultimate identify is as a son or daughter of God.

The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe the gospel.
    Mark 1:15

Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
    Acts 2:38

Repent and be converted, so that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.
    Acts 3:19-20

The times of this ignorance God overlooked; but now he commands all men everywhere to repent, because he has appointed a day in the which he will judge the world.
    Acts 17:30-31

    • Chet

      1000 thumbs up!

      • Darrel Slugoski

True, but is he acting on his sin . If you foricate or masterbate you are sinning .If you are living a celibate life like Paul then its ok .

        • Chet

Have no idea. The best thing a Christian can do is continue looking to the Lord Jesus Christ of Calvary while forsaking worldliness even as we strive to avoid even the very appearance of evil as so instructed.

          • Darrel Slugoski

            Amen

  • Vince

I’ve noticed a lot of priests are obese. Makes you wonder if they are social misfits when they’re kids, so they go into the ministry in the hope they can surround themselves with people who won’t poke fun of them. That is not the same thing as being called by God – not even close.

  • Chet

No, mister, not gay, homosexual and the lifestyle so depicted in such behaviour is abomination with God Almighty. Be assured, worldly crowd’s standing “O” or no, there was and will never be such laud in God’s prepared place for prepared people, Heaven… Wise up, dude…

  • ThompsonSOS

This is one of the many reasons why Christians including me are leaving the Catholic Church in droves. This sinful announcement in the church is the equivalent of saying “I’m a fornicator, and so I’m going to embrace that.” Or “God made me an adulterer, so I’m going to embrace that.” Insane.

    • SFBruce

Perhaps you missed the part of this article that says that while Greiten is acknowledging that he’s gay, he intends to maintain his vow of celibacy. Personally, I believe the requirement that priests and nuns must remain celibate creates many problems, but I don’t see how you can accuse this man of being a “fornicator” when he claims to be celibate.

      • Reason2012

We can sin not just in deed, but in thought and in lust. And this man was proud of announcing he was homosexual – nowhere did he point out it’s sin and warn others of said sin.

        • SFBruce

I’m certainly aware of Matthew 5:28; however, I find it very difficult to believe that feeling physical attraction to another is the same as acting on that attraction. And even if you insist that simply feeling that attraction is indeed sinful, it’s a sin that most men commit on a regular basic is.

As I understand it, the Roman Catholic position is simply being gay isn’t in itself sinful, but the act is. It’s certainly not a position I agree with, but it seems to me that Greiten is being true to his Church’s position.

          • Reason2012

Dwelling in lust on it would be. The attraction itself is not, correct, just like sinful attractions of other kinds are likewise only sin if we dwell in lust on it or act on it.

            It’s not a “church’s” position – it’s God’s position.

            The fact remains:
            * he was proud of his announcement, happy and proud that he has sinful attractions
            * nowhere did he point out it’s a sin for anyone to act on it ever nor warn others of said sin.

And that’s contrary to God’s position on the matter.

          • SFBruce

I’m having trouble following your logic. You say that attraction in itself isn’t sinful, and yet you go on to characterize Geiten’s attractions as sinful. What in this article leads you to believe he dwells on them to such a degree that they become sinful?

You clearly have every right to follow your conscience about these issues, but surely you know that Christians disagree about many matters, and that’s true even among the different sects which believe the Bible is God’s infallible word and should be interpreted literally.

          • if Geitein didn’t dwell on his perverted attractions, he wouldn’t have homosexual thoughts and an attitude affirming that homosexuality is acceptable for a priest. The last thing he would be is a priest.

But as LGBT pigs show, for a pervert nothing is perverted.

          • Darrel Slugoski

Correct, he would be excommunicated if he pomotes it.

          • LynnRH

And the attraction to any sinful behavior is planted in our minds because of that stupid devil Satan. It is then our responsibility to get it off of our “dirty little minds.” And get our eye’s back on Jesus. When we get into Heaven we won’t have that problem anymore.

          • Florenca Mcdowell

Apostate Church. God says if you think thoughts in YOUR HEART you have committed those thoughts

          • Darrel Slugoski

You haven’t ? as a hetro sexual. As long as the priest is trying God understands that . If he is promoting that lifestyle and acting on it he will be excommunicated .

          • It explains why they shuffled around so many of their homosexual child abusing priests… they kept telling themselves the garbage they had in their minds didn’t matter… and their deeds as well..

          • Darrel Slugoski

As a Catholic what you say is true . I concerns me that he received a standing ovation . There are many Catholic who are ignorant of the Churches teachings . There will always be weeds among the wheat.

          • Recognizing_Truth

And, since that “church” is not being true to GOD’S position, then we can only conclude this is an apostate minister of an apostate “church” and that this is nothing more than the evidence of the perilous times that are upon the earth.

But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! (2 Tim 3:1-5)

It is blasphemy to say that what God considers vile and reprobate is instead good.
It is idolatry to love your self (the way you are) or love pleasures (especially the fleeting pleasures of sin) more than God.

One cannot resolve the conflict with positive affirmation that denies Scripture. Either God is right and homosexuality is the result of a reprobate and sinful nature, or this “priest” is right and homosexuality is a God-given characteristic that should be embraced and lauded.

And God is always true and righteous.

        • LynnRH

          Right!

        • Recognizing_Truth

Pride in one’s sinful nature is not repentance – changing your mind (that sin is OK) and agreeing with God (that, actually, it is deserving of condemnation and death – which God says is the “wages of sin”). Pride in one’s own sinful nature and helping or approving of others’ who similarly sin makes him the epitome of the man “Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them” (Rom 1:32)

      • ThompsonSOS

I didn’t accuse him of being a fornicator. You must have misunderstood my comment. I was equating self-identification with one sin with another.

        • SFBruce

That’s a distinction without a difference. Greiten has acknowledged that he is gay and celibate. How a celibate person of any sexual orientation can be guilty of a sin which holds the moral equivalence of fornication or adultery makes absolutely no sense to me.

          • It does to me. His mind is filled with perverted thoughts or he wouldn’t describe himself as a “gay” – the euphemism for a homosexual pig who thinks this is OK.

          • SFBruce

How in the world do you know his mind is filled with “perverted thoughts?” You seem to be saying that simply being gay is a sin. At least Reason2012 argues that attraction in itself isn’t sinful, only dwelling on that attraction makes the act sinful. I must remind you, this man is celibate. Does a heterosexual man who takes and honors a vow of celibacy also have a mind that’s filled with perverted thoughts? Lastly, I’ll say it again: I simply don’t believe that our thoughts are in themselves sinful.

          • Darrel Slugoski

Only if we dwell on them and then act on them ,

          • Darrel Slugoski

No love or respect from you . I don’t think God would want you calling people pigs . It is a sin yes . But if you are living a celibate life Like Paul and not acting on your sin . that’s what God expects of even yuo .

          • LynnRH

Not acting on your sin is absolutely correct. But so is not allowing your mind to dwell on a sinful thought (homosexual sin, adulterous sin, fornication sin, or any other kind). And if I were say an adulterer (for example) I wouldn’t be so proud of that fact as to state it to anybody else but the Lord God. And I would be begging for His forgiveness for “spitting in His face” by committing that adultery.

          • ThompsonSOS

He is confusing the sinful desires of the flesh with his identity, which means his identity is in the world and NOT in Christ where it should be. Jesus said if you look at woman with list you committed adultery with her in your heart. Does that mean now I should stand up in church and tell everyone I’m proud of being an adulterer????

      • ppp777

        Celibate my

      • Florenca Mcdowell

As president Jimmy carter said if you look at a woman and al thoughts YOU have lusted in your heart.

      • The only thing he acknowledged is that he will dedicate his life to destroying Catholicism by affirming his homosexual perversion.

But the Catholic church is today so corrupt that it won’t matter…

The problem lies not with his own practice – having a gay attraction that, because of a “vow” he will not act on. It lies with the fact that (a) he believes that God made him this way, and that therefore it’s OK and good and (b) he plans on helping
gay or straight, bisexual or transgendered, to be your authentic self—to be fully alive living in your image and likeness of God”. From the specific quotes this article shares, this seems to mean that He thinks God made homosexuals that way, and it’s a “good thing”, so they should embrace it. Ditto for “transgenders” (a mental disorder).

The truth, according to Scripture, is something wholly different:
Romans 1:18-32 clearly shows that homosexuality and similar debased desires are not from a holy God, but from mans sinful and reprobate self.
This “priest” is nothing more than one “Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them” (Rom 1:32)

    • ppp777

If that was really the case there would be some sort of hope , but these are reprobates .

    • Indeed! And the fact that he receives a standing ovation from the other audience – they’ve all thrown the Bible in the toilet and are celebrating!

“to be fully alive living in your image and likeness of God. ”

As if the image of God was a homosexual pig.

Have you been asleep? Its happening in ALL churches-protestant and Catholic!

    • Darrel Slugoski

Don’t leave because there are weeds among the wheat . Read Catholicism and Fundamentalism by Karl Keating . Find out if the Catholic Church is biblically based and has the better argument and defense . otherwise you will be jumping from church to church when you find out there imperfect people in each new church . Christ said let the wheat and weeds grow together until harvest time . I been doing Apologetics for 30 year and I know the Catholic Church has the best argument .

      • LynnRH

And when I start seeing my church embracing and okaying sins against God that He very clearly says in His Holy Word is a sin against Him I’m leaving mine!

        • Darrel Slugoski

However the Church does not teach that . I am more interested what the Church teaches and maintained for 2000 years which has not Changed .other denominations are caving but not the Catholic Church in its teaching . However I agree with you it is a sin and should not be celebrated . That is a scandal .If he is promoting it he will be excommunicated at some point . When I have read about other pastors cheating on their wives or molest I pray for them . I will not abandon my Church. christ always said there will weed among the wheat in every Church .

          • LynnRH

I believe God hasn’t changed His stance on anything He taught us in the past either. What was a sin back then is a sin today. I don’t know how you can say the Catholic church hasn’t caved in but only other denominations have. Not all denominations are okay with allowing self-professing homosexuals to be leaders in their churches. Not mine I know. But when I see that happening I WILL leave the church. I won’t leave my God but I will not tolerate being a part of a church that is okay with allowing someone to continue being a leader in the church while they don’t confess to the Lord and turn from their sins. Not happily profess that they are still in their sin. Not proudly state he will embrace who God made him to be. God doesn’t create a human to sin against Him. That is a choice.

          • Darrel Slugoski

. The church which changes its teaching/doctrine is the church you should leave. The Catholic Church has not change the fact that the homosexual act is sin . Other churches have in fact changed their doctrine formally. Because someone does something like this it does not mean the Church has changed. It is a scandal yes . It is not indicative of the everyone in the Catholic Church . The Catholic Churches teaching has not changed even a majority disagrees . Read the Catechism .Ont everyone will agree with it like in the case of contraception , but this teaching will remain .

          • LynnRH

Just be careful about putting all protestant churches in the same category. Not all protestant churches are okay with allowing someone who professes they are “embracing their homosexual self because that is who God made them to be” to be in leadership rolls in the church (leading the flock). What if I wanted to profess God created me as an adulterer, or child molester. Even if I wasn’t actively doing those things. Would you think I should be in the position of leading God’s people. I know that we have all sinned. That’s why we need Jesus. So even those that are in leadership positions in the church are saved sinners. But after being saved we are to turn away from our sins. Not proudly tell people you are embracing it cause God created you that way. God doesn’t create people to sin against Him. He HATES that! We people make the choice to sin against Him.

          • Darrel Slugoski

Fare enough . Point acknowledged .

    • LynnRH

Exactly right ThompsonSOS. I’m so happy you didn’t have your blinders on and you could see right through that. Thank you God!

  • Reason2012

A Roman Catholic priest in Wisconsin received a standing ovation this past Sunday after announcing during the service that he identifies as a homosexual.

Those that are lost will applaud anyone that admits they live in unrepentant sin, which includes even lusting after things – not just deeds but thoughts. It doesn’t matter if the whole world starts promoting a lie as God’s truth: it will still be a lie and will be condemned as such.

Romans 3:4 “God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.”

Matthew 15:14“[Jesus said] Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.”

And when we promote a lie as God’s truth, we’ll be answering to God for helping people sin.

Matthew 18:7 “[Jesus said] Woe unto the world because of offences [sins]! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!”

“I am Greg. I am a Roman Catholic priest. And, yes, I am gay!” declared Gregory Greiten of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Milwaukee, causing those present to rise to their feet, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

“I am [insert name here], and I’m a person who refuses to stop sinning!” should not be applauded but upbraided no matter the sin.

Even if someone feels they’re “born” with homosexual inclination, that doesn’t change all the innate sinful “inclinations” we all have and are to mortify the deeds of the flesh rather than live in them, in thought or in deed, and not care.

On a side note: People probably rose to their feet so others wouldn’t think they were a “homophobe” – another tactic of the those who reject Christ to force acceptance and promotion if not celebrating of it upon everyone else, lest ye be singled out as a “homophobe”.

The National Catholic Reporter also published an article on Monday in which Greiten outlined how he repressed his feelings for years, and later came to embrace them, while also keeping them hidden from others.

We all have “repressed feelings” when we mortify the deeds of the flesh – take up our cross daily to follow Christ – die daily to sinful lusts. Doesn’t mean we instead sin all we want in thought or in deed, as if God will be ok with it.

Romans 8:12-14 “Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”

Luke 9:23-25 “And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?”

“Over the past year, I came to the realization that I could no longer live the lie of masquerading as a straight man in the priesthood,” he wrote.

Yes, many will claim to be Christians but will claim to not longer be able to live the lie of masquerading as following Christ. Be not deceived – it’s God we’ll be facing on that account, myself included.

“Today, I stand with these few courageous priests who have taken the risk to come out of the shadows and have chosen to live in truth and authenticity,” Greiten wrote.

If he wishes to live in truth, he would instead point out how homosexual lust is what God said He gives people UP to that reject Him and His truth. Romans chapter 1 makes this quite clear. Those who reject Christ would call it “courageous” to reject God’s truth – another way they help promote acceptance of it.

“I promise to be my authentically gay self. I will embrace the person that God created me to be,” he stated.

God didn’t create us to sin. He didn’t create people to be homosexual – it’s what He gives some UP to that worship and serve the creation more than the Creator. Romans chapter 1 makes it quite clear.

‘Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire,’ Greiten said.

God didn’t mean for us to be homosexual or unrepentant sinners. Jesus taught us to fear God / live in reverential respect to Him, not to instead celebrate the sin we’re commanded to repent from.

Luke 12:4-5 “[Jesus said] And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kìll the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath kìlled hath power to cast into hèll; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.”

Not something most churches will ever let people know that Jesus said.

When we face God, people will realize those who loved them are those who tried to warn them – those that hated them were those who taught the lie that God is now fine with certain sins.

We need to read God’s Word daily, to make sure we’re not deceived by a false gospel. Just like rat poison is 99.995% real food, only takes 0.005% poison to make the entire lump of food deadly, Jesus warned to beware lies that are inserted into His truth, which will make the entire thing a lie as well.

1 Corinthians 5:4-7 “In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:”

Peace and love be with all those in Jesus Christ

Id just say to start if you a have a problem identifying what sin is, are you worshiping the God of this world, price of the powers of the sky or the Father God the creator, the Father of Jesus Christ for they are one and the same? God holy ghosts will convict you of sin and help you understand, Jess was sent to destroy the works of the devil not be proud of your sin

So I’m going to have to address the question is a Catholic anywhere in the bible? The King James? Are they real brethren as Christ said: those who do the will of my father are my brother, mother, sons Luke 8:21, Matthew 12:50 Mark 3:35, their customs/ traditions are very different and in vain against the one living God, their bible is added to, which were warned not to in scripture, to add or take away anything in Scripture like Holidays for example Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving etc was not a practice of the early church, but after many years were yoked together with pagan beliefs and most claiming Christians don’t seem to realize these are not Gods HOLY-DAYS and God says throughout scripture how much he hates mans festivals and traditions James 4:4 Unfaithful people! Don’t you know that to be the world’s friend means to be God’s enemy? If you want to be the world’s friend, you make yourself God’s enemy.

What does the bible say about no having divisions in the church that represents his church, Jesus Christ?

I come to realize that many identify themselves with their church upbringing not what scripture says about there are “no division in Christ”, so are they Baptist, are they Pentecost, Lutheran etc or are we one in Christ? Christ-ian is the one identity given tot those who follow Jesus in scripture, and says 1 Peter 4:16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

So here’s what Paul wrote to the church about divisions?

    Unity in the Church

1 Corinthians 1;10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. 12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. 13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; 15 Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name. 16 And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other. 17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

So we pray and love and forgive but we’re instructed to have no divisions in Christ as we are one AMEN

Men of the world what to change Gods word to fit their own desires and sins but where told in scripture the word of God does not change, Jesus said few will find life and most will go to damnation.

We that believe are to be obedient to God, follow only Jesus and not the world or any other religious groups

    MY SHEEP HEAR MY VOICE

John 10:1Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. 2But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. 4And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. 5And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. 6This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them.

7Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. 8All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. 9I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. 10The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

11I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. 12But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. 13The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. 14I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. 15As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. 17Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. 18No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

    Amen

    Piling sin upon sin.

Folks, do not hesitate to leave the Catholic church. The original church is the one that began at Pentecost in Acts 2. That is the church that is lead by the Holy Spirit, consisting of born again Christians like they were. Jesus calls us to come to HIM, directly, individually, personally. Revelation 3; 20 and many more. Read the Bible and see for yourself. Rituals can’t save you. Mary is not your co-redeemer as they claim. No church can save you, only Jesus, by coming to Him. We are only to pray to God (Trinity) and worship Him, and live a life of holiness. Don’t look at any church as the example, you will be disappointed. Just go to Christ. Just about all churches are in apostasy now anyway as the Bible says will happen. Read the Bible, turn to Jesus and repent, admit that He died for your sins and rose again and offers the only way of salvation, commit your life to Him and ask Him to show you what He wants of you. All of this praying part can and should be done alone, in your own closet, He will hear you!

  • Florenca Mcdowell

Shame on the Catholic Church I left over 50 years ago because of THEN COVER UPS, but this is an affront to God! Sin is sin and the church should NEVER APPROVE OF SIN

    • Who would have thought that the Catholic Church would be destroyed by the homosexual pigs from within!

Obviously a church whose hierarchy is based on men who can’t marry can only attract the most perverted men in society – thus the Church’s abuse scandal

      • Darrel Slugoski

There are wolves dressed in sheep’s clothing .You have the same % of wolves in your church .Paul was a celibate and many men in the Catholic Church are faithful to there calling . I know that these wolves have infiltrated into evangelical churches. I now for sure the also cover it up . Been around .

        • LynnRH

And when they show themselves at the wolves they are (no matter what church they are in) they need to be removed from leadership. The only one’s that should be in leadership are those that truly do all that they can to obey God’s Word. Not purposely live their lives in a way they know dishonor’s our Holy Father in Heaven.

    • Darrel Slugoski

The Catholic does not approve of sin . If you can show me a document of the Catholic Church that approves of sin I leave too. Don’t worry other Churches cover up too and have the same 2% of wolves in seeps clothing .This is a fact . I know of the cover ups in these Churches too .They are still doing it .

      • LynnRH

That’s exactly right. Everyone (Catholic, Protestant, any other religion, and of course even non-believer’s) have sinned against God and continue to fail Him everyday. That is why Jesus had to be born, die and then be raised alive again in order that we can be saved from our sins. Even after we are saved we are not and can not be sinless. But we are saved sinners. That still does not mean we should continue on in our sin that we are aware of is sin. That’s like spitting in God’s face and saying, “thanks God but no thanks.” We are to turn from our sins. And how we become aware of what is sin against God is to read His Word, the Holy Bible.

  • Darrel Slugoski

Church teaching has not changed . He is living a celibate life .

  • Ben Welliver

The RCs go to extremes. They used to torture or execute heretics and apostates, now they pat them on the head. The proper discipline would lie somewhere in the middle. The priests needs to be told by his superiors that he must retract and his statement and inform his congregation that the Christian view of homosexuality has not changed.

  • jim

he may be catholic but definitely not christian since he does not believe the book he proclaims

  • Jeff Kelly

This is an example of one of a number of reasons why I happily left the Catholic church many years ago (happily, I’m now a Baptist). When you “force” a man or woman to abstain from normal biological functioning, such as the biological need for sex, and then surround them with only members of their own sex – including boys – the mind can get sexually twisted very easily allowing for the devil to have his way with them. In addition, the Catholic church serves as a mecca for homosexuals to join and hide their immoral sexual proclivities from the outside world while fully indulging in their wicked sin with other homosexual priests and innocent boys. This is very sickening to me.

  • Recognizing_Truth

God made man in His image.
Sin made man reprobate, separated from God, with a heart that is desperately wicked, and with sinful desires that are contrary to God and His holiness.

Don’t blame God for “making you this way” – you are a self-made man in that regard.
