Thousands took to the streets of America on Tuesday to protest the abortion giant Planned Parenthood and to call upon the U.S. government to defund the organization, which receives millions in Title X funds each year.
The protests took place in over 60 cities across the nation, including St. Paul, Minn.; Las Vegas, Nev.; Fort Worth, Texas; Roanoke, Va.; Syracuse, N.Y. and Allentown, Pa., with an estimated 12,000 participants. The outcry followed the release of three undercover videos by the Center for Medical Progress showing top officials from Planned Parenthood discussing the harvesting and sale and fetal organs to scientific companies.
“I’d say a lot of people want liver,” Dr. Deborah Nucatola said as she munched on salad and sipped wine. “[A] lot of people want intact hearts these days because they’re looking for specific nodes: AV nodes, SA. I was like, ‘Wow, I didn’t even know. Good for them.’ Yesterday was the first time she (a staff member) said people wanted lungs. And then, like I said, always as many intact livers as possible.”
“I want a Lamborghini,” joked abortionist Mary Gatter in a second video as she haggled with the undercover investigators about the asking price per “specimen.”
“The main nurse was always trying to make sure we got our specimens. No one else really cared, but the main nurse did because she knew that Planned Parenthood was getting compensated,” explained Holly O’Donnell with Stem Express, one of the companies that allegedly contracts with the abortion giant to obtain fetal organs, in a third video released yesterday.
Following the release of the videos—with more expected to come in the weeks ahead—everyday citizens to lawmakers took to the streets of America on Tuesday to urge the government to take away the $50 million that Planned Parenthood is allotted each year for Title X (family planning) funding.
“Planned Parenthood is our nation’s abortion Goliath,” Jessi Bridges, the Director of Nevadans for Life, declared at the Las Vegas rally. “It’s time for congress to investigate Planned Parenthood now. It is time for Congress to defund Planned Parenthood now.”
“It’s barbaric, it’s inhuman. It’s killing babies and now selling baby parts on top of it? Unbelievable,” protester Roberta Smith told CBS Minnesota at the St. Paul rally. “Women have been deceived for several years, and America needs to wake up.”
Lawmakers joined the protests in Washington, D.C., with Sens. Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, James Lankford, Tim Huelskamp and others speaking out against Planned Parenthood.
“These are videos of senior Planned Parenthood officials laughing, swilling Chardonnay and casually, callously, heartlessly bartering and selling body parts of unborn children. I would encourage every American to watch these videos, regardless of your view of the right to life,” Cruz told those gathered. “Even if you are a supporter of abortion, I would encourage you to watch these videos and just ask a simple question: Are these my values?”
He called upon both local and federal authorities to investigate the abortion giant, and urged his fellow Congressman to hold a hearing about the matter.
“To see a senior Planned Parenthood official laughing and saying that she hopes she sells enough body parts of unborn children to buy a Lamborghini, there is no ambiguity in what we’re seeing,” Cruz said. “When we see the truth, after a time for truth comes a time for action. Today is a time for action.”
