A new video released by the barbaric Islamic group ISIS, which identifies itself as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, is threatening to “strike America at its center in Washington” after taking credit for the French massacre that killed over 130 last week.
The video begins with news footage of Friday’s attack in Paris, and addresses what it calls the “crusader campaign” against the terrorist organization.
“We say to the states that take part in the crusader campaign that, by Allah, you will have a day, Allah willing, like France’s and by Allah, as we struck France in the center of its abode in Paris, then we swear that we will strike America at its center in Washington,” states a jihadist only identified as “Al Ghareeb the Algerian.”
He also threatens continued attacks in Europe.
“I say to the European countries that we are coming, coming with booby traps and explosives, coming with explosive belts and [gun] silencers and you will be unable to stop us because today we are much stronger than before,” Ghareeb asserts.
As previously reported, French fighter jets dropped 20 bombs on key ISIS targets in Raqqa, Syria on Sunday in retribution for the deadly massacre in Paris. The airstrike, carried out in conjunction with the U.S. from the United Arab Emirates and Jordan, struck an ISIS command center, a jihadist training center and an ammunition depot.
The U.S. Department of Defense said that the Iraqi government also helped with the coordination of the strike.
“The destruction of ISIL targets in Syria and Iraq further limits the terrorist group’s ability to project terror and conduct operations,” it said in a statement.
French President Francois Hollande had characterized ISIS’ attack on Parisians as an “act of war” and vowed to respond in a “merciless” manner.
“It is an act of war that was committed by a terrorist army, a jihadist army, Daesh, against France,” he said on Saturday, using the derogatory reference to ISIS. “It is an act of war that was prepared, organized and planned from abroad, with complicity from the inside, which the investigation will help establish.”
“We will work alongside our allies to fight this terrorist menace,” Hollande continued. “”France, because it was foully, disgracefully and violently attacked, will be unforgiving with the barbarians from [ISIS].”
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security told reporters on Monday that there is no information indicating a specific threat to America, but the Metro Transit Police Department has announced that it is stepping up security in the Washington area nonetheless.
“[L]et me be clear—there is no known, credible threat to Washington D.C. at this time. However, we must always remember that Washington will always be an attractive target to those wishing to do harm to us,” wrote Police Chief Cathy Lanier in an email on Saturday.
