CLARKSBURG, Ind. — A church in Indiana is mourning the death of their pastor’s wife, who died on Monday after her car was swept into a creek due to flash flooding.
Carol Jackson, 63, was the wife of Jerran Jackson, the pastor of Clarksburg Christian Church. She was a mother of six and had recently received the glad news that her second grandchild was on the way.
“Just a huge godly woman. Probably the godliest woman I’ve ever known in my life,” friend Mike Holzback told Fox59 News.
“Carol was a giving, compassionate woman that just loved to pour herself into this community,” also remarked friend Chris Beaumont.
According to reports, Jackson called her husband on the way home from a church retreat on Monday evening to advise that her car was filling with water and was being swept away by the flooding. He called 911 to report the matter, and an estimated 150 community members set out to find her.
The following morning, Jackson’s vehicle was discovered along Pipe Creek, and her body was located downstream later that day.
Shocked and saddened members of the church gathered Tuesday evening to remember Jackson’s life.
“She planted so many seeds of hope and encouragement to everyone here,” friend Becky Gault told WTTV.
“[H]er very last text to me [was] ‘Your kingdom come, Your will be done.’ That was Carol—that He wanted the will of the kingdom to be done,” friend Tammy Sodell also recalled.
“We’ll never know all of the ways that she has touched people, but she had just such a kind, loving heart,” Holzback’s wife, Carol, told local television station WLWT. She said that Jackson wouldn’t want the church to mourn for her, but to “celebrate her life, [and] most of all, celebrate her love of the Lord.”
A Go Fund Me page has been created for Jackson’s family, with further tributes and condolences being conveyed.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family. My kids went to Bible school at the church and remember feeling so welcome. I know Carol has touched so many in the community that she does not even realize,” one donor wrote.
“Her strong hugs and a little love always went a long way,” another shared.
A video was also posted to YouTube on Wednesday to remember Jackson’s life.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 reads, “But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God, and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore, comfort one another with these words.”
