Glastonburg, Connecticut — Two homosexual men will stand trial on allegations that they raped at least two of their adopted children after they withdrew a plea deal under the direction of their attorneys.

George Harasz, 49, and Douglas Wirth, 45, were arrested in November 2011 after two of their nine adopted sons, ages 5 and 15, accused the men of repeatedly raping and abusing them.

Following an investigation, the men were charged with two counts of sexual assault, risk of injury to a minor, and other felony charges. All nine children were subsequently removed from the home.

The charges were later reduced to one count of risk of injury to a minor, and the men agreed to a plea deal in January, which resulted in suspended prison sentences and probation. They were to have appeared in court this month to find out if they would be required to register as sex offenders.

However, now three more of the children have come forward, stating that they were also abused by the men. It is believed that the latest allegations involved the youngest children in the home.

Attorneys for Harasz and Wirth have subsequently withdrawn the plea deal, claiming that it is best that the matter moves forward via a jury trial.

“This case needs to be tried so these men can clear their names,” stated attorney Hubert J. Santos, who is representing Harasz.

One of the teenagers who has alleged abuse told the court this month that he had been molested since he was six years old.

“They took turns raping me over and over,” he said. “Anyone who would do this to a child is a sick, demented person.”

However, children from Harasz’ past marriage to his wife spoke up and said that they believed their father was innocent. One of the adopted children also denied the charges, asserting that his teenage brother was rather referring to a previous foster home.

“I told the truth,” Carlos Harasz stated, “that nothing ever happened.”

But the teenager who made the allegations told authorities that he was touched inappropriately when he was alone, and was forced to satisfy the sexual desires of the men.

“[He said] he has scars from being held down and raped and that those injuries were inflicted by a weapon,” said Prosecutor David Zagaja.

Some of the children also claim that they were kept in closets or cages.

Zagaja and others state that they are glad that the the case is heading to trial, so that they can properly prosecute the men.

“Listening to what’s been done and what’s been said is heart-wrenching,” said one of the grandfathers of the boys, Christopher Harris.

Five of the nine children now have claimed abuse by Harasz and Wirth.
