Woman Credits Prayer for Saving Her Life After Spending Hours Trapped in Wreck

WigginsKANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Missouri woman and her family are crediting prayer for saving her life after she was trapped in her wrecked car for over eight hours.

Cassandra Wiggins, 39, was traveling to work on Thursday morning at approximately 7:00 a.m. when her car hydroplaned and she slid down an embankment out of sight from the roadway. Wiggins lost consciousness during the wreck and was knocked out for several hours as cars passed by, not knowing that Wiggins was in need of help 100 feet below.

However, when Wiggins’ mother received a phone call from her place of employment stating that her daughter had not arrived for work that day, she knew something terrible had happened.

“It’s a mother’s gut and the Holy Spirit that told me that there was something seriously wrong,” Anita Finney told local television station KSHB. “And by that point, I could just start praying that the Lord would save her until I found her.”

At approximately 3:00 p.m., Wiggins regained consciousness, and used her foot to reach for her cell phone to call 911. It took two hours for the fire department to pry her from the wreckage.

Wiggins mother met her at the scene.

“I really kept extremely calm through the help of the Holy Spirit until I saw the car and then I lost it,” she said.

Wiggins had hip surgery at the hospital and will need rehabilitation to learn to walk again, but is expected to be okay. Her parents say that she credits prayer for her survival.

“She said, ‘Daddy, I thought at first I was going to die, then I just kept praying,'” her father, Robert Wiggins, told KCTV News. “That’s what we taught Cass from early childhood, and that’s what she did and the Lord answered her prayer. So we’re grateful.”

“We’re thankful for the firemen that came and helped her up that hill,” he added. “I don’t see how they got up it; that hill was so long.”
