EAST RIDGE, Tenn. — A Tennessee man who confessed on social media to murdering his mother and a friend on Sunday claimed before killing himself that “nothing happens after death, but if there is a Hell, I’m going to be in the lake of ice at the bottom.”

Casey Lawhorn, 22, had shared a number of posts on his social media page regarding his rejection of Christianity.

In December 2016, he shared a drawing that featured a man stating to a child, “Santa isn’t real. He’s made up so kids will behave.” The child then responded, “Like how Jesus was made up for adults to behave?” The initial post has over 19,000 likes.

The month prior, he shared a photograph of a banner held by a street preacher that warned of sinful behaviors, and featured the caption “Hell is gonna be so [expletive] lit.” Lawhorn wrote in sharing the meme, “Party at my place tonight. BYOB.”

Last September, he posted a cartoon with profanity regarding God creating the earth six thousand years ago. Numerous other posts likewise contained expletives and advocated for homosexual and transgender causes.

Wes Robertson, the boyfriend of Lawhorn’s mother, Vi, told WTVC-TV that Lawhorn had struggled with depression for years and tried to commit suicide twice, including last October, when he was transported to the hospital. He had been obtaining help at a mental health facility, but recently skipped appointments and stopped taking his mediation, Robertson said.

Last Sunday, Lawhorn, a former Amazon employee who also posted about gun control and whose profile photo decried the Orlando homosexual nightclub shooting, wrote a lengthy post on Facebook confessing to killing his mother and friend with a stolen gun, then stealing money from his dead friend’s wallet.

“She started screaming the worst scream I’ve ever heard. Movies really don’t do justice to how true terror sounds,” he wrote. “She shouted, ‘You shot me! You’ve killed me! Why?’ Once I got the jam fixed, I turned on the light so I wouldn’t miss again. I shot at her twice more and it was over.”

Lawhorn told those who would read the message that he didn’t want people to pray, including for him, calling it a “waste of time.” He acknowledged that his actions were wrong.

“Don’t give me or my family your thoughts and prayers,” he wrote. “No one will be hurt by this more than my brother. He will probably need a lot of help getting through this, and if you think you are helping him just by talking to the sky, you’re [expletive] wrong. If you want to help him in this insanely difficult time I’m putting him through, actually do something, don’t just think about it. I’m sorry to him more than anyone.”

“That said, I don’t want or need forgiveness from anyone. What I did is unforgivable. And prayer is a waste of time, nothing happens after death, but if there is a Hell, I’m going to be in the lake of ice at the bottom,” Lawhorn stated. “Betrayal of family and betrayal of guests are two of the worst sins.”

His body was later found in Mississippi, where he stated that he had written the post after his car broke down.

“[A]s I sit here in Mississippi, writing this on the side of I-59 south after my car broke down, what I look forward to is the nothingness after death,” Lawhorn wrote. “I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about murder, wondering what it feels like. But I’ve barely felt anything.”

Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

It is why Jesus taught in John 3:3, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

He outlined in the same chapter, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”

“He that believeth on Him is not condemned, but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.”
