Pro Se Petitioner asks Supreme Court to rule on three key questions
Lexington, SC – Christian pro-life missionary has asked the United States Supreme Court to hear his case stemming from his March 2024 conviction in United States District Court of violating the unjust so-called Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act (18 U.S.C. § 248) in Columbia, SC in November 2022.
Steve Lefemine has been a Christian pro-life missionary for over 35 years and directs two Christian pro-life ministries. In November 2022, after the South Carolina Senate refused to even pass just a near-total ban on surgical and mifepristone “abortions” post-Dobbs (let alone a personhood bill), he was led to interpose at the client door of the local Planned Parenthood child-murder center, nonviolently sitting outside the door on an “abortion”/killing day, thus preventing any children in the womb from being taken through that main entrance to be destroyed inside (video: here). Persisting in their intentions, the Planned Parenthood staff instead brought their “clients” and any unborn victims inside the killing center through a rear staff door.
Petitioner was arrested by the Columbia (SC) Police Department, charged with trespass, and eventually convicted in Municipal Court after an unjust jury trial, and sentenced to payment of a fine in January 2024.
In addition, for the same act of interposition, the Biden/Garland DOJ indicted Lefemine in February 2023 for one count of violating the federal FACE Act. Defendant was eventually convicted in U.S. District Court in Columbia, SC after an unjust bench trial (and with jury trial request denied), and sentenced to 60 days incarceration and payment of a $1,000 fine. An additional consequent financial penalty reached into the loss of several thousand dollars. Lefemine served 59 days in the Salters, SC federal prison camp during Sept – Nov 2024, paid the fine, and had several thousand dollars more taken by the federal government.
Petitioner appealed to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in August 2024, but his court-appointed attorney decided to argue in the appeal only the issue of the jury trial denial (which was not the reason Lefemine brought the appeal). Although Appellant submitted pro se supplemental briefs trying to make Biblical and Pro-Life arguments to the three-judge panel of the Fourth Circuit Court, no substantive, meaningful adjudication of the Biblical and Pro-Life issues took place. The three-judge panel ruled Appellant’s first pro se supplemental brief was allowed to be filed, but ruled it had no merit, and then also ruled Appellant’s amended pro se supplemental brief was denied to even be filed. A petition for rehearing was also denied.
Petitioner is asking the United States Supreme Court to rule on three key questions (petition for certiorari):
1) Whether “the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God” cited in the 1776 Declaration of Independence are the foundation of America’s jurisprudence today.
2) Whether the overwhelming body of scientific evidence that human biological life begins at fertilization requires present recognition of this scientific fact universally in the law.
3) Whether the Creator God-given, inherent, unalienable right to life of every human being as a natural person, together with the preceding as affirmative premises, requires as self-evident truth, the logical necessity of present recognition in the law of every human being as a legal person, beginning at fertilization.
Lefemine said, “God’s Law is the rightful, just basis for man’s law. Human life begins at conception. A human being exists at conception. Every human being has a Creator God-given, inherent, unalienable right to life as a natural ‘person’ which should rightly be recognized in law as legal personhood.”
