‘Lord Jesus, Help Me!’: Woman Credits Survival During Islamic Terror Attack to Calling on Jesus

Veldman-compressedJERUSALEM — An elderly Christian woman in Israel is crediting her survival to calling on the name of Jesus during an Islamic terror attack in Jerusalem last week.

For the past 32 years, Marike Veldman, 78, has operated a foster home for Arab children in Jerusalem, raising 20 and adopting a number of the children that she raised. Prior to coming to Israel, Veldman lived in her homeland of Holland until deciding to volunteer in the Holy Land.

Last Tuesday, while riding a bus in East Talpiot, she noticed two suspicious men sitting in front.

“I thought to myself, ‘What were they doing on a bus at this hour? They should be at work,'” Veldman told YNet News.

Moments later, the men, one of which carried a gun and the other a knife, began yelling, “Allah is the greatest” and proceeded to attack passengers.

“They began to cry ‘Allahu Akbar,’” she recalled. “The man in front of me began with a knife stabbing into me. The other man started shooting. People screamed very loudly. It was awful.”

But even as Veldman was being stabbed, she called out to Jesus Christ.

“I cried constantly in Dutch, ‘Lord Jesus! Lord Jesus! Help me! Help me!,” she recalled.

At that moment, her attacker stopped and ran to the back of the bus. Veldman moved close to the door, which was now shot up with bullet holes, and it suddenly opened. She ran out, bleeding as she went.

“I started walking up the hill there and I was bleeding terribly and I was alone,” Veldman explained.

Minutes later, a Jewish man drove by and gave her a ride after Veldman told him her story. She was then taken to Hadassah Medical Center for treatment, where she is recovering from stab wounds and punctured lungs.

Veldman says that she doesn’t hate her attacker, but pities him for committing evil. She would like to see the man who stopped to help her as she credits both him and God for saving her life.

“He and God saved me,” Veldman said. “… I want to thank him.”

Two people died in the attack, and sixteen others were injured.

A special message from the publisher...

Dear Reader, our hearts are deeply grieved by the ongoing devastation in Iraq, and through this we have been compelled to take a stand at the gates of hell against the enemy who came to kill and destroy. Bibles for Iraq is a project to put Arabic and Kurdish audio Bibles into the hands of Iraqi and Syrian refugees—many of whom are illiterate and who have never heard the gospel. Will you stand with us and make a donation today to this important effort? Can you imagine what a threat this little prayer board is to those who oppose it? Because of it these kids know that someone deeply cares about them. Enough to ask God personally to help them and watch over them. What a strong feeling of being loved the adversary must compete against. How cold and evil they must be in the eyes of these little ones. Talk about shooting your own foot.

    • FoJC_Forever

Concern for children coming from an internet stalker like yourself should only be an alarm to anyone who truly cares about children.

  • FoJC_Forever

This is using a classroom to practice religion, albeit not very intrusively. Just because someone prays doesn’t mean they’re praying in Faith anyway. I’ve encountered more trouble from prayers of unbelief than intentional attacks from people who reject God altogether. The AHA’s reaction is overkill and simply in tune with their goal to attack any form of religious practice.

“But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.” (Matthew 18:6)

They should replace it with a Tibetan Prayer Wheel.

While congress is not allowed to make a law inhibiting the free exercise of religion, apparently a mere superintendent can make such a law, and will send out a notice to teachers prohibiting them from promoting religion or prayer in the classroom. If they fail to follow this law, the superintendent will personally feed them to hungry lions that he keeps for this eventuality.

  • TheBBP

Thank goodness that those brave Atheists stood up to the oppressing nature of another student’s need of prayer. Wanna bet that they get angry if they get caught and ticketed for going 5 over the speed limit even though it is against the law?

  • Jeffery Kinkead

They don’t have the right to take prayer requests but they can pass out condoms and tell girls they can get abortions without their parents knowledge and teach them that anything goes and we wonder what’s wrong with our society today.

    • nat williams

i’ve heard of schools in some areas of the country that will take the girl (middle or high school) to have an abortion without the parents knowledge. just another sign as to how far out of line the schools are these days.

      • Mr. Farkle

Got a citation? “I’ve heard” is hardly proof.

        • nat williams

i should have known that there would be some smart alic that would need a list of references as to whom i was listening/watching speak about these things. if you need proof, you obviously have a computer, so if you are smart enough i’m certain you can find the very proof you feel you need since you are incapable of believing someones word!

          • Mr. Farkle

Why should I research it? You’re the one who made the claims.

  • nat williams

sure are a lot of wimpy people willing to show they don’t stand up for God even though they say they pray, believe & it’s ok to take requests for prayer from students. GET A BACKBONE PEOPLE!! you don’t have to let these heathens control you! the board was there because of the students requesting prayer – which was happening before the board was put up! this wasn’t ‘practicing religion’! there was no prayer going on in the class but was done on the teachers own time! BUT if they are smart – there is another way – the students can write it down on a piece of paper & turn it in to the teacher so she still gets their requests!

  • Jeffery Kinkead

And the superintendent just rolls over and does whatever they say… with no regard to the freedom of the Christian religion.

    • Ralph Spoilsport 11

No, the teacher was disregarding the religious freedom of the students and their parents.

Something VERY strange here. The article above ~ on my screen ~ is about an elderly Israeli survivor of a terror attack. All the comments seem to be about abortion. ???

    • KD Elkins Gaur

I know, weird, right? I found no comments here about the stabbed elderly woman other than yours.

    • bowie1

I sent a message to Christian News about this but so far no changes have been made.

  • KD Elkins Gaur

She didn’t say anything about calling out Jesus’ name in the video.

    • Dave_L

Possibly the video is an incomplete record of her statement. Elsewhere they quote her as saying; “I cried constantly in Dutch, ‘Lord Jesus! Lord Jesus! Help me! Help me!,” she recalled.

Islam is Christianity’s photo-negative. While Christianity brings eternal life to those choosing to surrender to Jesus, who alone is “the Way, the Truth and the Life,” Islam brings eternal death to those who surrender to Allah.

Islam is a cancer on the world. It is straight from the pits of hell.

    • Dave_L

“Luther believed that “the wrath of God had brought Muhammad and the Pope into the world”…..”When the Greeks despised His Word, He took it away and gave them the Turk and Muhammad. To us Germans and to the Italians, he gave us the Pope and with him all sorts of horrible things.”

“When the ways of people please the LORD, he causes even their enemies to be at peace with them.” (Proverbs 16:7)

  • violetteal

    Bless this woman.

  • LadyFreeBird<In God I Trust

Praise God and Praise His Son! Thank You Jesus !

  • jimguyy

Islam is what comes when a nation rejects Jesus Christ.

  • warriorbride

She should of had discernment about these men and got off the bus earlier if she was wondering WHY they were there hello that trying to WARN her and telling her to LEAVE the bus, but she should have taken her authority in Christ Jesus like some followers of Jesus and REBUKED satan and told them to GO IN JESUS NAME BEFORE they came at her !! that is what I would of DONE ! I HAVE NO FEAR of man and neither should any true follower of Yeshua

  • warriorbride

the man should of found the nearest hosptial and taken her there ??? if you waited for an ambulence it might of been too late, thank God, it WASN’T !
