(Policy Mic) In wake of a series of terrorist attacks that struck Paris on Friday night, the first question posed to Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders during Saturday night’s Democratic debate was whether he still believes climate change is the No. 1 national security threat to the United States—and Twitter users had a lot to say about his answer.

“Absolutely,” he said. “In fact, climate change is directly related to the growth of terrorism.” Sanders added that climate change will cause farmers in countries “all over the world” to struggle with a scarcity of water and land to grow crops, which Sanders said studies have shown leads to international conflict.

Some Twitter users mocked Sanders’ response, saying he should tell the French people that but wouldn’t say that if he were face to face with a member of the Islamic State group.

Yes, yes, and only by turning the US into a communist State can the Earth be saved from assured destruction, right? 🙂

LOL…they insult the intelligence of most Americans with this garbage, it’s astounding tho. how many go along with this fraud. They are w/out God and faith in God, an evil generation.

    • WorldGoneCrazy

#Truth. Communist states have accomplished what “global warming” could never do.

BTW, the monthly meeting of the “Turn America into a Christian Theocracy” is still on, right? Meeting at Josey’s house – she is making cookies.

      • Nidalap

Mmmmmm…Those cookies are amazing! Just the right blend of sugar and spices to get the old theocratic brainpower jumpstarted! She still does the special gingerbread Moses holding The Ten Commandments cookies for Christmas time, right? 🙂

        • WorldGoneCrazy

Yes she does and who does not love Ten Commandment gingerbread cookies?!? Sugar and spice and everything objective morality all wrapped into one magical moment!

Now, I suppose the Canaanite Cookie Crushing Contest is off this year? That seemed to give too many headaches to the visiting atheist children.

          • Nidalap

It’s such good clean fun too! You have to pity those children. It’s just the influence of the parents that causes that. Luckily, we’re working to counter that with our new “Proselytykes” kids outreach! It’s ingenious! (^_^)

Yeah, Bernie, if only we had addressed ‘climate change’ back in Hitler’s day, we could have avoided the horrors of WWII and prevented millions of Jews from going to the gas chambers. If only….(And this is a man who wants to be president…heaven help us!) He thinks climate change is the root cause of all the world’s problems? No…the evil that lurks in men’s hearts is and has always been the root problem. Even if global warming were real and is ‘causing farmers in countries “all over the world” to struggle with a scarcity of water and land to grow crops’, that does not make people behead, crucify, pillage, rape, and torture their neighbors. What makes them react wrongly is the evil in their own hearts and that which comes from an evil religion. Islam is evil and we are seeing its fruit. Should be plain as the nose on Mr. Sanders face, but he is naïve and blind.

Where did he say climate change caused the Holocaust? Don’t bear false witness.

Here and now, on the planet today, climate change is creating situations that are breeding grounds for terrorists.

We can address that reality or ignore it.

      • Angel Jabbins

Good grief… you accuse me of lying…Go back and read it. I was being factious…since Bernie thinks climate change is the root cause of all evil in the world….then I guess that would apply to Hilter also. Right? If your (and his) theory is true, then please relate it to Hitler’s day as well. Was global warming the cause of all the horrors back then? Or was it the evil lurking in men’s hearts?

More proof why liberalism/socialism truly is a mental disorder!!!

  • Cady555

Mr. Sanders did not say that climate change was the cause of every genocide ever. Mr. Sanders did not say climate change is the sole cause of terrorism.

He is saying exactly what the Department of Defense has been saying since before Mr. Obama took office. In 2007, the DoD described climate change as a “threat multiplyer.” Changing climate creates humanitarian crises, due to the impact on the availability of crop lands and fresh water. When food and water are gone, large numbers of people move to places where they can find food and water, creating conflict with the people already there. Poverty and starvation are breeding grounds. This is just reality.

Google the article in the NY Times from 1 year ago, Oct 13, 2014, about the security risks of climate change, including drought in the mideast and the movement of farmers into Syrian cities and how that impacted ISIS. Also look up one dated May 13, 2014.

Climate change is reality. It is not Republican or Democratic any more than a sunrise or a hurricane or a multiplication table is Republican or Democratic. Climate change is not Christian or non Christian. Facts are just facts. The climate is changing rapidly and dramatically. Places on earth that are currently home to millions of people will become unihabitable over the next few decades.

Christians with compassion should care about this.

Republicans say things that oil companies like to hear to keep campaign money flowing, and they say things Christians like to hear to keep the votes coming. The fact that christians agree with the moral statements of Republicans does not require you to agree with the climate change statements of Republicans.

Look at independent sources (the ones not looking for anyone’s money or votes).

Climate change is happening at an unprecidented and accelerating rate.
