The non-for-profit ministry Convoy of Hope is working to reduce poverty levels across America, which, according to reports, have hit their highest rates in over 50 years. The organization is currently embarking on a 50-state “Compassion Outreach Tour” to help provide much-needed services free of charge to the poor in communities across the nation.
Not only is Convoy of Hope working with local churches to provide food to those who are struggling to feed their families, but during its carnival-like event, it also sets up up job fairs, a health fair, clothing giveaways, free haircuts, family portraits and even housing assistance. Convoy of Hope says that its goal is to help people out of poverty, not just give them a handout. In fact, a number of past recipients of services often return to the event as volunteers and reach out to others who were struggling as they once were.
The organization will continue its 5o-state tour through 2013.
