The results of a recent Gallup poll show that while the majority believe God fully created man, one-third opine that man evolved over millions of years with God’s guidance.
The popular survey group states that ratios are virtually unchanged from 30 years ago, when it conducted its first poll. It questioned 1,012 random adults from all fifty states and asked:
Which of the following statements comes closest to your views on the origin and development of human beings?
1) Human beings have developed over millions of years from less advanced forms of life, but God guided the process.
2) Human beings have developed over millions of years, but God had no part in the process.
3) God created human beings pretty much in their present form at one time within the last 10,000 years or so.
Out of those who believed that man developed with Divine assistance, a quarter of respondents stated that they attend church every week. The survey also found that there were little differences between Republicans or Democrats when it comes to guided evolution — 31 to 32 percent.
Nonetheless, the majority of those questioned stated that they believed God made man as he is today, and hold to faith in a young earth.
