Socialists in France are demanding that parliament add language to its proposed homosexual marriage legislation legalizing “assisted human procreation.”
They state that homosexuals have a right to parent test tube babies just like heterosexual couples that struggle with infertility.
“On the issue of rights and freedoms, [we must] ensure that we set an example for the future regarding the law on marriage and adoption for same-sex couples, [that] there is also the right for medically assisted human procreation. This is the position of the party,” Harlem Désir, interim president of the Socialist Party, remarked in a recent statement.
However, many religious and conservative groups in the nation have been outraged at the assertion. A completed draft of the country’s same-sex “marriage” proposal was expected this month, but due to controversy surrounding the issue, language will not be presented until November 7th. According to reports, over 600,000 people have signed a petition demanding that the government cease its plans to legalize homosexual nuptials in the country.
As previously reported, French officials are also considering legislation that would do away with the use of the words “mother” or “father” in government documents. In an effort to be gender-neutral and accommodate homosexuals in the nation, the word “parents” would instead be used, so that if two men or two women had children, it would not insinuate that a male and female constitutes a family.
“Kids need a mother and a father. Studies have shown time and again that being raised in a home with a mother and a father is best for the overall health and well-being of a child,” commented Nathan Cherry of Family Policy Council of West Virginia. “Eliminating these proper and necessary roles will not strengthen families or society.”
President Francois Hollande has said that he will sign the homosexual “marriage” bill if it is passed by parliament.
