UK Worship Artist Whose Songs Are Sung in American Churches Comes Out as Lesbian

Beeching fbLONDON — Less than a year after announcing her support for same-sex ‘marriage,’ a UK-based worship artist whose songs are sung in American churches on any given Sunday has come out as a lesbian.

Vicky Beeching first was introduced in the Christian music industry in 2002, but became more prominent with the release of her worship album Yesterday, Today and Forever in 2005. The release featured songs such as Above All ElseGreat is Your Glory, Search Me, and a new take on the hymn Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus. She released two additional albums in 2007 and 2010, co-writing the song Glory to God Forever with fellow worship artist Steve Fee and touring with the band Delirious and singer/songwriter Rebecca St. James.

In 2012, Beeching outlined her feminist beliefs in an article entitled Jesus Was a Feminist and So Am I and appeared on BBC News to explain why she believed women should be permitted to serve as bishops in the Angelican church.

“My Christian friends chide me for my overtly feminist views, while the atheist-feminist circles I move in despair at my commitment to what they see as a patriarchal religion,” she wrote. “It would be much easier to choose one or the other—Christianity or feminism, but I believe they should be—and are—utterly compatible.”

In December of last year, Beeching came out in support of same-sex “marriage” in appearing on UK’s Good Morning Sunday hosted by Clare Balding. She later posted her thoughts more in-depth in three separate entries on her blog.

“Not many evangelical Christians hold the theology hold that I do in affirming that same-sex relationships and same-sex marriage is acceptable to God and can be celebrated,” Beeching told Christianity Today in June. “Since speaking out and blogging about equal marriage, there’s been a boycott of my songs. My income comes from royalties, so unless they’re sung, I lose my income, which has been difficult. It’s been deeply painful to see people writing off 15 years of my work, saying that it’s now tarnished.”

Now, The Independent released an interview with Beeching on Wednesday, where the singer/songwriter/blogger came out as a lesbian herself.

“I felt like coming out was something I needed to do,” she said. “The [UK Angelican] Church has now voted to enable women to become bishops, literally almost a month ago today, on July 14th. The next big hurdle the church faces is the discussion around sexuality. So it felt important for me to add my voice to that debate as it will be the key topic for the decades to come. And my voice will make much more difference if I’m open about my sexuality, as I can share more honestly about what it’s like to be a gay Christian.”

She said that she had been struggling with same-sex attraction since she was twelve, and eventually decided to stop fighting it.

“What Jesus taught was a radical message of welcome and inclusion and love,” Beeching stated. “I feel certain God loves me just the way I am, and I have a huge sense of calling to communicate that to young people.”

And now, she says she wants to work to change the beliefs of those in the Church.

“I am not angry with the Church even though it’s been a painful journey. I still hold as tightly to my Christian faith as ever,” Beeching said. “I have a lot of hope for the future of the Church—that we can see a move towards inclusion, welcome and love for LGBT people.”

Reaction to Beeching’s announcement has been mixed.

“Wow, what an example of being covered by the blood of the Lamb!” one commenter wrote.

“So sad,” another stated. “God loves the way that we are, but not our sins. Please remember that. [Just] because we think that we’re right [doesn’t] mean that God is okay with our decision.”

“It’s amazing how people can justify what Christ is against. We do sin and ask for forgiveness for making that mistake. Then we make the change to become stronger so we don’t do it again,” a third commenter wrote. “And you wonder why people think Christians are hypocrites. Start standing up for what Christ teaches. Black or white. Hot or cold. There’s no grey or warm in Gods eyes!”

Not rare for Christian artists after receiving some success to succumb to the lies of the liar.

  • Believe what you will but I disagree that homosexual relationships or so called marriages are acceptable to God.Seems there are too many who believe in God but reject His standards.Guess they will be in for a rude awakening.

Never seen someone immortalize a comment that basically called god rude before. at least not one that was in a far different camp

1 Corinthians 6:9-10: “Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.”

People want to embrace a nice tidy, painless Jesus-philosophy while ignoring His many teachings about sin, Heaven, and hell.

I hope churches everywhere abandon her music, churches should not support artists who condone sin and immorality.

NO WAY! A women who creates beautiful music and loves jesus is GAY! AWESOME! Anyone that is a hater is not a true Christian. Sorry folks.
Get a grip. There are many wonderful gay people in the world. LOVE IS LOVE.

I just saw this article and recently there has been another female come out admitting to being homosexual for several years using her voice and talent proclaiming to be a music ministry. Using the word gay does not change homosexuality into something else and people need to understand that some things just don’t work. Just like there is no such thing recognized by God as same sex marriage, God created man and woman to be joined as one and called it marriage. You can change a secular dictionary but it still is not marriage as originally created. There is no question God loves everyone and wants to see no one perish. However, It is Jesus that wrote the Ten Commandments and it is clearly defined what homosexuality is to God, in His Word, The Holy Bible. On the last day when God does His Strange Work I know His heart will be torn apart because he gave every chance and made available every way possible for people to repent and obey Him, no matter what his or her transgressions are. But I would like to go a little into detail and as a person and as a Christian I do have a right to share what the Bible Clearly says. I do not know this person or her music and I don’t know if she claims her music to be a ministry. However, I think that if a person chooses to do something the Bible clearly states as a sin to God, they have the right to choose to continue their lifestyle but not by proclaiming their faith to be aligned with scripture. To continue to use God’s people’s enjoyment of music without diluting God’s Word, it should be considered a secular business not a ministry. So many people wait, especially when using others faith, using the Churches endorsement and in some cases sponsorship to become successful and economically secure and then come out with their own form of faith that does not align with God’s word. I believe that is wrong. I cannot Judge her but I can state that if she were in many different denominations and honestly admitted she was homosexual, although God and the Church would still love her, they could not continue to support her endeavors as a Godly Music Ministry. More over, if this woman wanted to stay in her choice of sin, there would be no choice but to let her find a place of choice that supports her beliefs. I am a Bible Christian and there are some things that I would have thought to be okay but after a clear understanding I understand and support Jesus, the law and His testimony. Homosexuality falls under the law of adultery, it is a transgression of God’s law, it is a sin. Am I a hater? No, and it breaks my heart to see people that cannot accept God’s gift of salvation over things like this. If she really loves the Lord and wants to be with him for eternity, she knows inside what she needs to do and if not, Christ explains it. God Bless and I will pray for her. Brother Tim.

  • There is no Gay Christian

James 2 says that people in gay clothing may enter a church and get undue respect: And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool …

Her best bet would be to finally break away from Christianity so she can lead a life that knows true love and compassion. As far as hell goes, I don’t think she has much to worry about, after all, if the rest of the world is right, you’re all going there anyway for simply being born in the wrong hemisphere. Clearly, God bases your eternity on geography more than anything else!

You all have no idea what kind of freedom lies on the other side of the ancient dogma and immoral teachings of modern Christianity. You’re long overdue for a reformation, and if you don’t accept it, the world will continue to progress and just pass you by. The rest of us already know there is nothing wrong with homosexuality… I suggest you educate yourselves and look for information outside the Christian bubble. You’ll be amazed just how often you are mislead. I invite you to join the 21st century, otherwise you will see your religion continue to fade from relevance.

Last eve I paused beside a blacksmith’s door

      And heard the anvil ring the vesper chime;

Then, looking in, I saw upon the floor

Old hammers worn with the beating years of time.

“`How many anvils have you had,’ said I,

`To wear and batter all these hammers so?’

`Just one,’ said he; then said with twinkling eye,

`The anvil wears the hammers out you know.’

“And so, I thought, the anvil of God’s word

For ages skeptic blows have beat upon,

Yet, though the noise of falling blows was heard,

The anvil is unharmed-the hammers gone.”

come into the Kingdom of God. It isn’t about religion…the difference is a personal relationship with God, through Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians says it in a nut shell, and no, not everyone thinks these sins are okay. You’re obviously convinced, now YOU must convince Christ these sins are okay ….and that’s not going to happen.

and I suggest you do the same if you think that this pile of hate and filth has anything to do with Christianity. the dogma of hate is not followed by plenty of Christians, rather, Christianity is so diverse that you can find a lot of different stuff that people can get invested in. if these haters where not christian, they would find some other reason by which to project malice across the world from a moral high horse. Stalin was atheist.

It’s pitty that mankind has fallen this far,
Hence the plague of different diseases on earth

  • Debbie Hiedeman

The bible does say homosexuality is a sin, but it also says love the sinner and not the sin! This is another example of how satan is trying to win our sons/daughters to of of the church among others! We must pray for God to intervene!

Never heard of this “Christian artist.” She is probably well known in her hometown in U.K. Does this mean her name changes from Beeching to B**ching?
