NEW YORK – Singer and open homosexual activist Elton John has come out of the closet again; this time, praising Pope Francis as his ‘hero’ and demanding that the Catholic pontiff be made a saint immediately at his annual AIDS benefit in New York.
John who hosted the event, “An Enduring Vision: A Benefit for the Elton John AIDS Foundation,” said that Francis is pushing the boundaries in Catholicism and told the crowd: “Make this man a saint now, OK?”
Francis, who on Monday stated that evolution and Creation are compatible, is now receiving praise from Elton John for the pontiff’s “Who am I to judge?” remarks concerning homosexual priests and desire to be more open to accepting homosexuality in the religion.
“Ten years ago one of the biggest obstacles in the fight against AIDS was the Catholic Church. Today we have a pope that speaks out about it,” John told the cheering attendees at Cipraini’s on Wall Street.
“The new Pope has excited me so much by his humanity,” John said. “He’s stripped it down to the bare bones and said it’s all basically about love and taking everybody in, inclusiveness. And that has to be encouraged by the Church of England.”
