PORTLAND, Ore. — A prominent homosexual activist who was arrested for child rape last week was once called by Obama a “great friend and supporter,” and has raised over a million dollars toward his election efforts since 2007.
As previously reported, Terrance Bean, 66, of Portland was taken into custody at his home last Wednesday by the Portland, Oregon Police Bureau Sex Crimes Unit following an indictment by a Lane County Grand Jury. He was booked at the Multnomah County Jail and released after posting 10 percent of his $50,000 bail.
Bean is facing two counts of third-degree sodomy, a felony, and one count of third-degree sex abuse, a misdemeanor. The charges stem from an ongoing investigation that involves an alleged sexual encounter with a 15-year-old boy after meeting him on a dating website.
Bean is credited with being a co-founder of a number of homosexual activist organizations, namely the Human Rights Campaign, the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund, and the National Gay Games. The Human Rights Campaign is said to be the largest homosexual advocacy group in the nation, having over 1.5 million supporters. Bean has served on the organization’s Board of Directors for over 20 years, and is also a member of its Foundation Board and Public Policy Committee.
His Flickr account shows multiple photographs with Barack Obama, as well as other Democratic political figures such as Bill Clinton and Nancy Pelosi. In 2012 alone, Bean raised over half a million dollars for Obama’s reelection efforts, but according to the Washington Free Beacon, since Obama first ran for president in 2007, Bean has raised a total of $1,036,895 for the pro-homosexual political figure.
During a speech to the Human Rights Campaign in 2009, Bean referred to Obama as a “great friend and supporter,” and also acknowledged him during a 2012 speech at a fundraiser in Portland, stating, “I want to thank someone who put so much work into this this event, Terry Bean. Give Terry a big round of applause!”
The Oregonian notes that Bean’s sister included “three photos of Terry Bean’s ride on Air Force One with Obama to a subsequent event in Seattle” on a blog post in 2012.
HRC spokesman Fred Sainz sought to downplay Bean’s role in the organization in speaking with CNN this past weekend.
“Terry Bean has taken a voluntary leave of absence from the HRC board until his issues are resolved,” he said. “Bean is just one of 80 board members, none of whom have daily oversight or responsibility for any of our programs.”
As previously reported, last Thursday, Bean’s former love interest, 25-year old Kiah Lawson, was also taken into custody on sodomy and sexual abuse charges. According to reports, Bean took Lawson to see Obama at least on one occasion.
“Bean paid him a $400-a-week allowance, put Lawson up in one of his homes and took him on international trips. Last fall, Bean brought Lawson to the White House and also introduced him to Obama,” the Williamette Week outlined in June.
But the two had a fallout after Lawson reportedly discovered a camera above Bean’s bed, where he allegedly recorded his sexual encounters with men.
“Lawson used this information to seek money from Bean, alleging that the camera captured videos ‘of at least a half dozen individuals in a state of nudity engaged in intimate acts with you,'” the outlet stated. “Bean recently attempted to settle the matter for $40,000 in exchange for Lawson turning over the images and refraining from disclosing Bean’s ‘alleged illicit sexual activities,’ but the deal was called off and Bean later sought to charge Lawson with theft and extortion.
Now, both of them are fighting the exact same charges as they are accused of being involved in the sexual abuse of a 15-year-old boy at a hotel in Oregon.
