Chick-fil-A Listed as Sponsor of ‘Faith-Based’ Homosexual Film and Arts Festival

Level Ground-compressedAn online petition has been launched over revelations that the popular evangelical-owned fast food restaurant Chick-fil-A has been listed as a sponsor of a “faith-based” homosexual film and arts festival.

Level Ground began as a student-organized event in 2013, and was touted as the “world’s first faith-based LGBT film festival.” It has since expanded to six cities across the country and includes not only film, but music, theater, visual arts, comedy, and various workshops with the goal of “elevating the public discourse around the otherwise polarizing topics of gender identity and human sexuality.”

“The Level Ground Festival draws a unique audience that reflects the full spectrum of religious (and non-religious) beliefs, gender identities, and sexual orientations,” the festival website outlines. “All denominations, theologies, beliefs, races, and ages are welcome.”

Earlier this month, the Level Ground Festival opened in Nashville, being sponsored by the pro-homosexual Gracepointe Church and Vanderbilt Divinity School, among others. The event featured panel talks that included former Contemporary Christian artist Jennifer Knapp, who came out as a lesbian in 2005 and went on to found a homosexual advocacy group, as well as folk musician Derek Webb, known for his song “I Repent” and his former role in the Christian group Caedmon’s Call.

Other attendees included Melissa Greene, formerly of the group Avalon and worship leader at Gracepointe, and Karen Swallow Prior of Virginia’s Liberty University.

But Level Ground has general sponsors as well, which the group has posted on its website. Included on the page among Whole Foods, Hilton Pasadena, and Stone Brewing Company is the popular fast-food restaurant Chick-fil-A.

On Friday, a concerned Chick-fil-A patron launched a petition to bring the sponsorship to the attention of the company’s leadership.

“Per our research and findings, Chick-fil-A is a sponsor of ‘Level Ground’ … [a]nd upon further inquiry, your sponsorship of this organization supports pro-gay organizations … and many other groups that promote an agenda which is contrary to Chick-fil-A’s corporate stance on Christian values regarding marriage and stewardship,” the petition reads.

“In light of these findings, we ask that Chick-fil-A issues an official response regarding this sponsorship, along with any statement your team feels is necessary to clarify Chick-fil-A’s corporate stance regarding previously stated Christian values on marriage and stewardship,” it says.

As previously reported, Chick-fil-A came under fire in 2012 from homosexual advocates after President Dan Cathy spoke in favor of Biblical marriage.

“We are very much supporting of the family—the Biblical definition of the family unit,” he told the Baptist Press. “We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives,” he said. “We give God thanks for that.”

According to the Washington Post, Cathy had also stated on a radio broadcast that he believed that the promotion of homosexual “marriage” was evoking the wrath of God upon America.

“As it relates to society in general, I think we’re inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him and say, ‘We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,’” he opined. “And I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to try to redefine what marriage is about.”

After the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a key part of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), Cathy Tweeted, “Sad day for our nation. [The] founding fathers would be ashamed of our generation to abandon wisdom of the ages re: cornerstone of strong societies.” He later deleted the post.

Following uproar about the matter, including assertions that the company donates to organizations that oppose same-sex “marriage,” Chick-fil-A issued a statement outlining that it had never sought to donate to groups that speak against homosexuality, and that “[g]oing forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena.”

“For many months now, Chick-fil-A’s corporate giving has been mischaracterized,” the fast food chain wrote in a separate news release. “Our intent is not to support political or social agendas.”

Christian News Network reached out to Chick-fil-A for comment and explanation regarding its sponsorship of Level Ground, but a response was not received as of press time.

As we see the solid Bible believing founders of these companies die, their companies will grown darker.

    • Jade

I would argue that the companies have grown brighter. We no longer agree with scripture that states that slaves can be beaten and also passed down to their children as a permanent inheritance; woman are unclean for 7 days if they give birth to a son and 14 days for a daughter and also that if a woman cannot prove her virginity on her wedding day the men of the town must stone her to death; and also that homosexuality is a sin worthy of blood and death. We need to leave that barbaric thinking in the past.

      • jennylynn

Nothing worse than when people misinterpret the scriptures and can’t distinguish between moral, ceremonial or civil laws. They are comfortable with sin so they mock truth!

        • Jade

I thought stoning a woman who could not prove her virginity on her wedding day where the men of the town would stone her to death, was a moral situation. Did you know that some females are born without a hymen and therefore they would not be able to prove their virginity? That would mean that your scripture put to death an innocent person.

          • jennylynn

For the wages of sin is death! Romans 6:23. It’s very rare for. a woman to be born without a hymen and impossible in most cases. Especially during biblical times when DNA mutations were not as prevalent as our days. Your argument is invalid and just a justification to blaspheme God and His word, as you justify sinful behavior. God does not change. Man does!
            Malachi 3:6
Man is to be conformed to God’s word and His standards, God does not conform to the pleasures or culture of man. Lastly unless you repent(turn from sinful lifestyle) you will all likewise perish. Luke 13:3, 13:5.

Are you aware Israeli archaeology has proven with absolute certainty that Moses didn’t exist and the Jews were never slaves in Egypt? If we can’t trust that, how can we trust the rest?

          • jennylynn

If you hear a lie long enough you start to believe it. The archeological evidences has been proven!

          • cajaquarius

You poor, deluded girl. Science, archaeology, all of it stands against you. Abraham never existed, Adam and Eve never existed, Sodom and Gomorrah never existed, the Jews were never slaves in Egypt, geology and the existence of Native Americans has proven there was never a world wide flood, and all of your book is falling apart now. For each child who remains a Christian, six leave the Church never to return again.

Your God is a tyrant and a sham.

          • jacksonm

Has it been proven that a snake talked?

Can you document with actual scientific evidence that anyone lived to be 900?

Can you document with actual evidence that polar bears were able to live in the desert? They couldn’t have been on the ark otherwise.

          • jennylynn

Can you prove that it is not? I have the authenticating proven word of God, proven by fulfilled prophecies, archeology, names, dates and places!

          • Jade

I agree that it was rare but certainly possible, therefore I state again that your scripture would have put an innocent person to death. By the way, isn’t it interesting that there was no law for a male to prove their virginity. Do you think it had something to do with the fact that the MEN were writing these words which you claim are God’s words. Sorry, they were the thoughts and prejudices of men. They wrote down what they only thought God was telling them.

          • jennylynn

The word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory, the glory of the only begotten of the Father full of grace and truth.
            John 1:14
Jesus is the God man! Not woman
            And He is not partial!

          • jacksonm

2/3 of the planet doesn’t practice your religion. Can you offer up any tangible proof that there are any Buddhists, Taoists, etc, in your religion’s hell?

            Nope, you sure can’t.

          • jennylynn

Religion is man trying to earn his salvation. Christianity is God coming down to man and saving us by His right arm. This my friend is not religion, but The Word became flesh. John 1:14I don’t worry about what others are doing. I know that a great multitude that no man can number will come out of the great tribulation. These are those who keep the testimony of Jesus, not Buddhists, taoists, muslims, pagans etc….revelation 7:9

          • cajaquarius

Thankfully, Christians tend to be more moral than their monstrous God.

          • badmammerjammer

You knowledge of OT scripture is impressive if a bit sketchy. Then you will recall that God also told you that ‘life is in the blood; and that ‘blood must be shed to atone for sin’. I am sure you will not say that you are without sin…

You may well be so glad to know the good news that Jesus Christ paid the price of our sin (yes, yours too) when His blood was shed on the cross. (He has the woman without the hymen covered too). So I urge you to pray to God and ask Him to help you in your unbelief to turn to Christ and know eternal life through Him. Grace awaits you dear Jade.

      • Michael Falsia

I would argue that you have no understanding of the bible whatsoever! Your false theology will reserve for you a place in the lake of fire! It is not the people of God who your perverse arguments are in conflict with but the Holy and terrible God who punishes sin. The day of judgment will be a fearful awakening for those who are as deluded as you! And the New Testament does not carry those themes any longer in case you did not notice? I will not even try to clear up your misconceptions as to why God gave those commands and injunctions in the first place? If The Almighty dealt with sinners in such fashion in the old covenant then how do you think he will deal with the wicked under the new when there is no excuse for living in accord with the depravity of your own wicked heart? Don’t be a fool and live under the wight and guilt of that sin which hold you in bondage. The one who practices sin is the SLAVE of sin! Those are the words of the Son of God my friend not some preacher with whom you disagree and dislike.

With a total of 9 people signing the petition, Chik-Fil-A will be hard pressed to not respond to this type of groundswell.

    • April J

Also, the festival is already over. It happened nearly 3 weeks ago. So it’s kind of pointless to respond now. Christian News was late to the party…

  • RileyN

interesting that the link to the petition doesn’t work :-/

    • jacksonm

The festival was three weeks ago. Signing it now wouldn’t stop anything, since it already happened. That’s why it no longer works.

  • April J

This festival already happened…nearly 3 weeks ago. Therefore this petition and this story are completely irrelevant. Maybe pay closer attention to the details next time.

  • cajaquarius

“Look, you hate the gays and that is great but we are not certain you hate them enough.”

  • jacksonm

OK Christians, do you have the courage of your convictions to boycott chik-fil-a?

    I’m betting not.

  • We’re curious why our comment is still pending 3 days later? What does that mean?

  • Michael Falsia

Here it comes, the final apostasy is upon us! It gets worse folks not better! We need a theology of realism and forget this pseudo revivalism. The iniquity of the Amorites is almost full? Then comes judgment. Judgment in this case is not earthly upheavals but a national reprobation that gives sinners over to delusion and false doctrine. When they say peace and safety then comes sudden destruction as the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven taking vengeance on all them who know not God etc… The favor of the world is more important than the truth of the gospel and that is the sign of God’s wrath upon the Church not society. Societies destruction is inevitable and will be consummated at the last day when all of the secrets of men’s hearts are revealed according to the gospel. Romans 1. It is time to fear God and study His holiness. Therefore knowing the TERROR of the Lord we persuade men? 2 Cor. 5:10 Oh God preserve your faithful ones and keep them pure and unstained by the world. For if any man love the world the love of the Father is not in them! Then shall they say to the rocks and mountains fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and the wrath of the LAMB, for who shall be able to stand? Revelation 6
