(Sky News) — Germany is considering legislation that could legalize euthanasia.
Under existing rules, assisted suicide is neither permitted nor banned in the country, if the fatal drug is administered by the recipient.
But Germany’s parliament is considering four proposals—ranging from a near-complete ban, through to full legalization so long as it is not carried out for profit.
The issue of euthanasia is a particularly sensitive topic in Germany. The last time it was part of public policy was when it was used by the Nazis to kill 200,000 people with mental or physical disabilities.
