Lesbian Woman Creates ‘LGBT Bible App’ to Promote ‘Inclusivity’ Within the Church

PHILADELPHIA – A lesbian woman who is frustrated by the lack of homosexual-friendly material available in Christian bookstores has created what she describes as “the first LGBT Bible app,” featuring resources that celebrate homosexuality and do not condemn same-sex sexual behavior as being sinful.

“This app is for people who identify as ‘spiritual but not religious,’ progressive Christians who have had premarital sex and don’t care, who are frustrated with purity culture, who are pro-choice, pro-women, and who want to accept and embrace interfaith connections,” Crystal Cheatham told AutoStraddle.com.

Cheatham, who hails from Philadelphia, describes herself as a lesbian Christian. Although she once thought that her same-sex attraction was incompatible with her belief in God, she has since decided to embrace and celebrate her lesbianism.

“I’m black, I’m a lesbian, and I’m tired of feeling like my faith doesn’t matter,” Cheatham said in a press release. “Some think it’s an anomaly that a black lesbian can be a Christian, but there are many out there like me.”

After coming out as a lesbian, Cheatham said she became frustrated by the lack of books and resources available in bookstores for people like her who identify as lesbian Christians. Therefore, she decided to address that by creating a pro-homosexual app called “Our Bible App.”

“Our Bible App is the first LGBT bible app,” the app’s website states. “Creating devotionals for progressive Christians, we uplift believers of ALL stripes.”

“Our Bible App supports the belief that spirituality is a spectrum and that faith is a journey,” it outlines. “At its core, the holy text was written to be inclusive of all of God’s creation especially those on the margins.”

  • Connect with Christian News

Scheduled for release this Friday, Our Bible App will feature a library of progressive devotionals and a collection of Bible versions that refer to God in gender-neutral terms.

“Through devotionals highlighting pro-LGBT, pro-women and encourage interfaith inclusivity, we hope to provide a tool that is needed to create healthy prayer and meditation habits,” the app website’s claims.

Cheatham says that she hopes her app will help Christians embrace and accept homosexuality.

“There are so many Christians out there that want to be accepting of LGBT people, but don’t know how because they haven’t received the resources,” she told PBS NewsHour.

However, Ken Ham, president of the apologetics ministry Answers in Genesis, says the Our Bible App is “biblically wrong” and misses the point of the gospel.

“[The creators of this app] are ignoring the very heart of the message of Christianity, that we become born again (John 3:3)—become new creatures—and gain a brand-new identity when we turn to Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17)!” Ham wrote in a blog post on Monday.

“These professing believers are trying to find their identity in their sexuality and gender rather than submitting totally to Jesus Christ,” Ham continued. “But we are no longer defined by our sin when we are Christians. We are defined by Christ who lives in us.”

“There should be no such thing as an LGBTQ Christian any more than there should be a drunkard Christian, liar Christian, or adulterer Christian,” he added. “We are simply Christians, and our identity is not in the sinful desires that we all still have (though Christians are given strength to restrain ourselves [1 Corinthians 10:13]), but in the One who died for our sin and gave us new life (1 Corinthians 6:9–20).”

I liked the response given regarding labeling ourselves not as (sin)-Christians, but as Christians. Now lets welcome all to the table who believe in the risen Christ, the only Son of God, knowing full well that without Christ we have died in our sinfulness, but through him have found salvation and forgiveness. Sin is sin, but Christ has the authority over sin and if we truly love Him we will always seek Him through forgiveness. Even if that means a lifetime of trying to resist sin.

    • Kelly Samuelson

She isn’t trying to resist sin though, she is trying to change The Bible to make it acceptable

      • Amos Moses – He>i

yeah …. kind of bassackwards ………

    • Recognizing_Truth

      The key is “resisting sin”.
      From the Scriptures:
      – Let him who steals steal no longer.
      – Go and sin no more.
      – Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
      – Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.
      – What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? 2By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?
      – The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent
      – No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure [not engage in] it.

Have read the scriptures. Have not found anything even remotely sounding like – Jesus loves you and He knows you can’t stop sinning, so, stop trying and stop worrying; embrace your sinfulness and don’t worry – God is OK with it.

I am going to create an app for the support of spousal abuse, fornication, lying, having other Gods, disrespecting your parents and that murder is not morally wrong. We need to change the Bible to fit my needs.

This may be because homosexuality is absolutely not compatible with Christianity. Period.

Cheatham says that she hopes her app will help Christians embrace and accept homosexuality.

This is how you know Cheatham should call herself Legion instead, as she is filled with many demons.

  • Coach

Some people want to do everything to assure they go to hell with all the amenities. It would be better for this woman to become an atheist or as Jesus declared, she’d be better off having a millstone hung around her neck and be drowned in the depth of the sea than to live to commit such wickedness.

    • Dee Drill

that was the punishment He said should be for those who hurt children.

      • Pamela Hankins

You don’t change the Bible, it changes you.

    It’s simple.

So King James Version, American Standard, God’s New Covenant are just interpretations?

now we are waiting for smart phones to burst into flames from the contradiction in apps and the ensuing lawsuits for damages ….

  • She is making a step in the right direction. Calling it selfish or sinful is missing the point. When we label persons ‘selfish’ or ‘sinful’ for living an equally honorable and ethical life as any other Christian, we are undermining the very basis of Christianity. For example, greed and envy are clearly selfish…lesbian or straight. Murder and abuse are clearly sins…lesbian or straight. Living a prayerful, humble, Christ centered life, on the other hand, is Christian…lesbian and straight. It’s not that hard to figure out.

    • Living out the Lesbian life is a selfish sin prd. This life we have is a neutrino size in the scope of the expandable universe. I hope she repents and deletes this evil app.

      • I would like to offer just one reply…It makes no sense to call the longing for a life partner ‘love’ when it is a straight person and ‘selfish’ when it is a lesbian.

        • Bob Fields

Just read the first chapter of Romans, not with her app though. Try KJV.

        • There are plenty of people who will not and have not been loved by other partners, living this life of sacrifice is worth more for eternity then living in a lake of fire for your own selfish needs. No matter how much people want to manipulate the Bibles words. It’s set in stone. Giving in to Homosexuality of any kind is a sin prd. There are no hopes, cracks, misunderstanding of any kind . If people believe in GOD and live out this life free of this kind of sin then i’m sure after our judgement God will remove those sins out of our mind and body.

  • MCrow

Hmm…my immediate thought is that I would tend to disagree with this for much the same reason I disagree with the American Heritage Bible and the Conservative Bible Project. I think that changing religious texts to suit your own needs leads to a sort of moral solipsism where a person can never be wrong because God ordered it. All that does is make one’s own ego God.

On the other hand, it is not uncommon for entire churches to only know passages of the Bible which reinforce their own beliefs, ignoring those which contradict them, so focus on specific teachings isn’t that strange.

  • FoJC

She doesn’t have Faith, she has a belief, and a belief which is wrong. Faith can only be acted upon for Salvation (or any other promise offered by God) when a person believes the Word of God, Jesus Christ. She is ignoring the Word of God, so her Faith has died. I pray she turns from her confusion and sin before she meets the LORD in Judgement.

    Come LORD Jesus, come!

  • Clay Jackson

Did she ever read and understand Revelation 22:18-21? 18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. 19 And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll. 20 He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. 21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.

    • Sharon_at_home

I’m not sure from the article that she actually ‘changed’ the Word of God, or is cherry-picking the scriptures that is “gender-neutral” so they deny His Word on homosexuality by ignoring the true meaning of the scripture, and by reading around any others that give a firm knowledge of the Male and Female that God created. Cherry-picking is never a good idea in the first place. SMH They may ignore God’s Word, but God won’t. Perhaps this is a way to bring some of them to repentance and Salvation. We can not know what God’s plans are. We should pray that this supposed representation of God’s Word brings some to read the True Word of God, and turn from their sins.
      Blessings!

“Cheatham says that she hopes her app will help Christians embrace and accept homosexuality.”

And that’s the crux of the matter. Might be an app, but it’s the same ol’ propaganda to “help” us ignorant Christians believe that homosexuality is normal and good.

  • KonCern

In the 1970’s I remember asking , why would some one want to change the Word of God?
That was the time when the NIV was published. I was used to the KJV, but now a different version was being used in my Church.
The explanation given, was , we no longer use our words like , ” thou, thee, etc…” ; because it is hard for a modern people to relate to those words.
I thought to myself, so we are conforming to people’s preferences ? This will lead to subversion of God’s word. I felt this way back in the 70’s over the NIV, I still do over others.

Since then we have a plethora of versions, adding to the chaos in our theology. Many Churches just follow using various version, making standards hard to establish.
So now this woman wants to have an APP for her phone of yet another version, the queen James version. Why it this surprising? She is part of the culture that has subverted the Traditional meaning of the word of God and have decided to use versions that appeal to her sinful desires.

The same is true of gender neutral bibles, because women, have a problem with the Male imagery of the Bible, they develop gender neutral versions to be used in the Churches.
Next I expect those you feel it is their right to bestiality and other perversion to have their own bibles to justify their SIN and desires, all under the banner of Christianity.

Oh well, it is designed Theological Chaos, that is allowed in the Churches much to our shame.
I wonder how many different versions of the Quran is there.

  • Americus Freeman

Altering the word of God to cater to an agenda is deadly sin. I pray for her so she may repent for such vile action, otherwise she’ll burn in hell for all eternity and deservingly so.

  • KGreenland

    So now it’s no longer “I’m a sinner” – it’s “I’m marginalized?”

  • KGreenland

“…progressive Christians who have had premarital sex and don’t care, who are frustrated with purity culture, who are pro-choice, pro-women, and who want to accept and embrace interfaith connections,”…why bother with Christianity? And why should it mean pro-woman? What does that mean? You want Jesus to give you all the love and sex, too. No judgements at all? Not even of yourself? Easy street. THAT IS NOT WHAT HE CALLED US TO DO.

  • Peter A. Treadwell

And she is deceived by Satan and she has never read or ignores Galatians 5:19-21 and Romans 6:11-14 as well as 1st Corinthians 5:9-13, Romans 1:18-32, 1st Corinthians 6:9-11

  • A Christian hates their sin, Just as God hates their sin. Embracing your sin means you choose your sin over God. There is no such thing as a Christian lesbian just as there is no such thing as a Christian murder. If you choose to build your identity around your sin instead of Christ, you’ve chosen to worship a false god. This lady identified first as black, then lesbian, then Christian. Her priorities are quite obvious.

  • MrsB123

Becoming “Born Again” is how one becomes saved per the instruction manual. It is a contract between the Creator God, YHWH and His created. One must first repent of all law breaking and WANT to sin no more. Yeshua only dies once for us. If you think you can deliberately sin and be forgiven, read the book of Hebrews. Baptism must be by full submersion in water and at an age of consent to understand the contract. If you want to be a law breaker, you were given free will to do so but dont expect YHWH to honor His side of the contract if you refuse to even try to honor yours.

  • Recognizing_Truth

Hmmm. I’m curious: What Scripture does one use to support the positive affirmation of homosexuality?

None are available in any of the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts, nor in any valid translation of those manuscripts – in any language.

  • JRRMS

She has made an idol app where they make up a God that suits them. That is plain Idolatry, and is one of the sins of the commandments. She is NOT a Christian… She does not worship the correct God. You don’t change his words! They take our rainbow for theirs now they want to change our Bible. I’m sick of the LGBTQ’s.

  • Denise Autry

There’s a reason there isn’t a bunch of Liberal supporting things in Christian stores, it’s because Christian’s are instructed not to mix the sinful ways of the world with the Bible, because they are incompatible.

This app is for people who wish to remain lost in their sins. Prov.14:12. Matt.25:6-13.

It’s bad enough that this woman wants to make Christianity compatible with sinful lifestyles, but she will likely take many with her on her way to hell! I hope that she is convicted by the Holy Spirit of the error of her ways. I do not believe that I am one bit better than her, but I recognize the sin in my life, and turn to God, confessing them, rather than trying to justify them.

  • Debra Cunningham Montgomery

When your app is “go live”, make sure you initial artwork or photo font shows an artistic rendition of how Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed and why God obliterated them. Just because, you know, so you and all of your sodomites friends will always be reminded of what your future holds.

It’s written below in six books of the Bible. You cannot alter the word of God to fit your alternative lifestyle. No one hates you and especially not God. However, there are no exceptions when you decide to rewrite its pages your name will be omitted from the Lambs Book of Life.

    REVELATION 22:15; 1 CORINTHIANS 6:9-10; GALATIANS 5:19-21; EPHESIANS 5:5; TIMOTHY 1:9; HEBREWS 12:14

“Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practice’s falsehood. Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?”

“Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.”

“Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, one drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

“For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.”

“Understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers”

“Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.”

If God aproves homosexuality, then God has to apologise to Sodom & Gemorah…
Why do you think God destroys Sodom & Gemorah? For fun and laughter peace and joy? You must be kidding. . He is definitely against homosexuality…fullstop.. Its more like you need to deal with that wrong sexual tendency of yours! Ask God to help you! Change to what God expects and not what you want God to be!

  • Pamela Hankins

You can do whatever you want to do. That is true. You just can’t change God’s mind about it. He calls sin, sin. And if you don’t like it, you demonstrate it by denying His Word. You cannot justify yourself; that was the job of the Lord Jesus. He didn’t say to the woman caught in adultery, ‘you didn’t commit adultery….that’s old fashioned crap’, He said ‘neither do I condemn you go and SIN NO MORE, ‘ verifying it’s sinfulness. ‘We are not condemned because we have believed’, but first you have to believe that God means what He says, repent and be justified by the Blood of Jesus. Trying to use what God says on one hand, while denying what He says on the other hand, again, demonstrates your faithlessness/sinfulness. Without faith, it’s impossible to please God. Even our GOOD works are as filthy rags before Him. If you do not have the Holy Spirit, you are ‘none of His’. And when you deny the whole Word of God, you deny the Holy Spirit. There is no other recourse no matter how you package it, translate it, proclaim it, or feel about it. That’s what HE says. This apostate church is called to repent from its fornication, not to announce how they were ‘born this way’. God calls us to be born-again…and to be transformed by His power. We have denied the power of godliness and substituted our methodologies, which is why we are in such a state of apostasy. Rev 3:14-22, ” And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches”. btw, don’t confuse your zealousness for what you are doing for loving Jesus. When you love Jesus, you are willing to go before Him and ask Him to search you and try you and see if there be any wicked way in you…this was what the man after God’s own heart (according to God) had to say about it. Read Jer 23 and tremble. At least Satan knows enough to do that. You are on very dangerous ground, because you don’t even know enough to be afraid. smh.

For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 2 Timothy 4:3
