Australian State Legalizes Assisted Suicide, Euthanasia

(Christian Institute) The Australian state of Victoria has legalised assisted suicide and voluntary euthanasia.

The bill to legalize assisted suicide passed by just four votes in the upper house of Victoria’s parliament.

The law will come into force next year and apply to terminally ill people with an estimated life expectancy of six months.

The move comes 22 years after the Northern Territory enacted the world’s first assisted suicide law in 1995. The Australian Parliament overturned the law just two years later.

I pray you never have to face a painful terminal illness, but if you do I want the choice on how to proceed to be YOURS, whatever that choice may be.

We have the right to determine our own destiny.

  • marik

    The cheapening of human life.
It’s only going to get worse.

    • This style 10/6

Why should someone with a terminal illness, perhaps in pain, struggling to breath, covered in sores (have you ever spent a couple of weeks in bed?) not have an assisted, peaceful end? Why does this cheapen life?

  • Robin Egg

It’s still murder by any other name.

  • TruthvLIes

Victoria where I live is now the death state of Australia. Kill them before they are born and kill them when they are no longer any use.

    • carolyn

In contrast to many states in America where they have the death penalty and kill disproportionate numbers of black people.

      • TruthvLIes

The problem is of its own making. Government has trashed marriage and family with all sorts of weird alternatives so people don’t know who they are any more so you have got millions of children in a sea of lack of identity so they lash to find meaning.

        • carolyn

Well that is a totally meaningless statement. Legalizing gay marriage has no impact on straight people whatsoever. If you are not gay – don’t have a gay wedding. Have you been tempted to have a gay wedding simply because it is not an option? This has no impact whatsoever on people having a “Lack of identiy”. It only serves to support the identity of people who are already gay. NONE OF IT has ANYTHING WHATSOEVER to do with Euthenazia. But hey, you are absessed by what gay men do, so you bring a totally unrelated issue back to the evils of gay people. You need help to deal with your obsessions.

          • TruthvLIes

Still spewing hate I see and still trying to sound important as if you know everythig which you don’t.

Now my little rosebud, if legalsing homosexual marriage (it is not definitely not gay marriage because homosexuals are definitely not gay. Sad would be a better word to describe them) how come the Australian parliament voted down amendments to the Same Sex Marriage Bill that would make sure “straight people” would not have their freedom of speech and religion impeded?

As both are a bedrock of society, it seems to me that the battle is on to push non homosexuals to the margins.

          • carolyn

It is not me that is spewing hate. YOU turned a thread on Euthanasia into an anti gay rant AGAIN. You say “Now my little rosebud” and call gay people and say you are not hate filled. The only person calling names is YOU. Gay marriage takes NOTHING from you. NOTHING. If you don’t want a gay marriage – don’t have one. I do not know the ins and outs of the ammendments, perhaps you could tell me, but how can someone getting married impede YOUR freedom of religion? Freedom of speech? If you mean that you are not allowed to spew your hatred, well good. GET ON WITH YOUR LIFE. GAY MARRIAGE MAKES NO DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER TO YOU. YOU ARE OBSESSED and all that does is suggest to me that like the research says, maybe you shout too loud. Maybe you are fighting your own demons. No one else spends so much time obsessing about what two men may or may not do between the sheets. LOVE. GOD. YOUR GOD, said to love.

You are pushing YOURSELVES to the margins.

          • TruthvLIes

You said and I quote ” and call gay people and say you are not hate filled.”

            Call gay people what?

You said and I quote ” If you don’t want a gay marriage – don’t have one.”

If that is the best you can do best to give up being an apologist for the homosexuals cause. That is so outdated, so nonsensical and so childish it has got hairs on it.

You said and I quote “perhaps you could tell me, but how can someone getting married impede YOUR freedom of religion? Freedom of speech?”

Unlike you, the world does not revolve around me. I am more concerned about what affects society as a whole.

Despite legalised same sex marriage having just been enacted here, the knives are out already to deny freedom of speech and religion except for a handful of people despite protests to the contrary.

And the current opposition leader has said if he becomes PM he will remove all exceptions so that NO ONE will be able to oppose the homosexuals agenda.

Is that clear enough for you?

          • ThePantomimePrincessMargaret

“If you don’t want a gay marriage don’t have one” is eminently sensible. It also exposes the aspect of your religion that other people find so hard to take – you are in essence saying your religion should dictate other people’s lives. The old “I’m on a diet, therefore you can’t have a piece of cake” argument. Gay marriage is legal in many places now. Don’t like it? Well, no one’s dictating that you have to marry anyone of the same sex, so what’s the problem? I fail to see why anyone else’s marriage should have any impact on YOUR life whatsoever. No one’s telling you that you have to like it and no one’s taking away your right to complain about it. They are PROBABLY telling you to mind your own business, though.

          • TruthvLIes

You are a truly pantomime princess saying things like that.

What is my religion? That is a question so lets see if you can answer it.

Having to marry someone of the same sex has NEVER been the issue discussed. That is tripe and an inconsequential beat up by the rainbow raiders to legitimise their demands.

As for anyone else’s marriage having an impact on my life. Unlike you I do not live in a my bubble of selfdom. I always look at how things affect society.

For example if a couple divorce it affects me as a teacher because I have to deal with one unhappy and angry child.

And it is a clear as day that the rainbow raiders ARE trying to take away our right to complain, as all the amendments that were presented to the Bill that guaranteed freedom of speech were opposed.

And the now Opposition leader said if he becomes PM, he will remove all exemptions from the Act so freedom of speech will be consigned to the round filing cabinet.

Them are the facts my dear so I suggest you do some homework before you spout such nonsense.

          • ThePantomimePrincessMargaret

You are some brand or another of evangelical Christianity, the only ones in other words who seem to think it’s their duty to tell other people what they can and can’t do. The anger in your language speaks volumes: “rainbow raiders” indeed.

I live in Canada, and gay marriage hasn’t affected “society” here one whit. More to the point, the people who don’t like it realize, unlike yourself, that there’s not a whole lot they can do about it. Except, as carolyn rightly pointed out, NOT get gay married.

No one, as I said, has the right to take away your right to say what you feel. What you’re instead bothered by is that they’re telling you to zip it. That’s legal too, by the way.

What were you saying about homework?

          • TruthvLIes

Yes but the question is which one as there are hundreds of them. It is like me saying which car do you drive and you say one with four wheels.

I see by your comment about anger and rainbow raiders you are another one who cannot handle the truth.

And I know more about Canada than you do as Trudeau has ordered ministers of religion to marry two men so it does affect society, but when you can’t handle the truth, denial is the name of the game.

This comment of yours is an oxymoron “No one, as I said, has the right to take away your right to say what you feel. What you’re instead bothered by is that they’re telling you to zip it. That’s legal too, by the way.

If you do not have the right to take away my right to say what I feel, then you do not have the right to tell me to zip it for the simple reason to tell me to zip it is to take away my right to say what I feel.

And for your information, I never get bothered by anything. I leave that to the complaining rainbow raiders who love to adopt the victim role.

          • ThePantomimePrincessMargaret

For purposes of this conversation it doesn’t matter which one. Your “four wheels” analogy fails because there are MANY branches of Christianity that don’t discriminate the way you are. All cars have four wheels? Yes, but not all Christian denominations oppose same-sex marriage. Or euthanasia, for that matter.

“I see by your comment about anger and rainbow raiders you are another one who cannot handle the truth.”

How very interesting that you consider a phrase like “rainbow raiders” to be a “truth” statement and not a derogatory dig at homosexuals.

Trudeau hasn’t ordered any religious officials to marry any homosexuals. That does not happen in this country. A church has the right to decline gay marriages. What it doesn’t have the right to do is tell other people they can’t marry them. Cute attempt to muddy the waters there.

Actually yes, I do have the right to tell you to zip it. It isn’t the same thing as taking your free speech rights away.

          • ppp777

            That’s some logic .

          • ThePantomimePrincessMargaret

            Thanks.

          • carolyn

You can go blue in the face arguing with this guy. He claims to have degrees in Social Science, Degrees (plural) in Theology, I think it was in Politics and to be a Retired English teacher (no doubt with a teaching qualification) who now says he IS a teacher. However he does not know that “an other” is one word and says eg “everyone”, instead of “every one”. His particular favourites include telling you you cannot handle the truth, projection, dishing out insults and insisting that it is YOU that is angry etc You have experienced some of these in only two or thee posts, ha ha ha.

          • ThePantomimePrincessMargaret

There’s a brand of Christianity these days that is particularly xenophobic and he’s got to be a charter member, I would guess.

          • carolyn

In the debates he keeps returning to about homosexuality, he would appear to be fighting his own demons!!! He is totally obsessed by what men do together between the sheets!!!

          • ThePantomimePrincessMargaret

Some pastor somewhere is only reinforcing this bigotry. It’s sad is what it is. But as Christians they are told they’ll recognize each other by their fruit, and someone clearly this eaten up by his own anger and lashing out isn’t producing very good fruit.

          • TruthvLIes

And someone clearly this eaten up by his own!!!!!!!!!

          • ThePantomimePrincessMargaret

            Not me Charlie.

          • TruthvLIes

Complete and total rubbish. Before I moved house, I was in a church that was mainly Asians and Africans so put that in your pipe and smoke it as their is nothing xenophobic about that.

          • ThePantomimePrincessMargaret

I don’t mean xenophobic in terms of race. Obviously.

          • TruthvLIes

Of course not. Silly of me to not understand that you meant it as it applies to……what?

          • TruthvLIes

            Total and complete rubbish.

          • TruthvLIes

Your comment is complete rubbish from start to finish.

          • ThePantomimePrincessMargaret

That means nothing coming from you.

          • TruthvLIes

As I said your comment is complete rubbish from start to finish.

          • TruthvLIes

total rubbish without a word of truth in it.

          • carolyn

            An admission at last . . . .

          • ThePantomimePrincessMargaret

            Your own statements? I agree.

          • TruthvLIes

I said your statements. Trying to be cute doesn’t change that fact.

Oh I have just realised. Perhaps you don’t know what your statements mean. Wouldn’t surprise me.

          • TruthvLIes

Thankyou for letting us know that you don’t believe what you say. You only say it to score points and try and sound superior to others.

What a silly claim. A church has the right to decline homosexual marriages but it doesn’t have the right to tell them they can’t marry them.

Either they can or they can’t so make your mind up.

And if I want to know the truth all I have to do is take the opposite view to homosexuals because they never tell the truth so Trudeau has ordered the church to marry homosexuals.

          • ThePantomimePrincessMargaret

Don’t thank me for things I didn’t say. If I didn’t believe it, I wouldn’t be saying it.

As I expected, you misunderstood what I said. A church has the right to decline homosexual marriages. Period.

Trudeau has not ordered churches to marry homosexuals. That’s a vile lie. You are welcome to provide a web link if you like.

          • TruthvLIes

Trudeau has ordered churches to marry homosexuals. What has a web link got to do with it?

          • ThePantomimePrincessMargaret

Except that he hasn’t, and you’re lying.

          • TruthvLIes

Except that he has and I am telling the truth which you can’t handle.

          • ThePantomimePrincessMargaret

Try laying some truth on me sometime, Scooter.

          • carolyn

Oh you are a teacher. You said elsewhere that you were a retired teacher. Your name really should be changed to Lies v Truth. You say what suitsi when it suits. Isn’t that a sin?

          • TruthvLIes

Not only total rubbish but complete hogwash as well.

          • carolyn

Total rubbish BUT compete hogwash as well? My my

          • carolyn

Straight couples divorce all the time. Actually many kids are born to single parents because they have unprotected sex on eg one night stands. Not something that tends to happen so much in the gay community. They have to PLAN children. They adopt kids that are not wanted etc etc. Maybe you should focus on problems rather than just obsess about what gay people, but mainly gay men do. Your obsession. If you are talking about hate speech, which you have indulged in, well in the UK that is illegal. Do you WANT to indulge in hate speech? I am certain that that is not what a good religioius person should do.

          • TruthvLIes

            Complete rubbish and infantile hogwash.

          • ppp777

” And God gave them over “

          • ThePantomimePrincessMargaret

God gave me the ability to detect – and reject – bigotry.

          • ppp777

            Like I said .

          • TruthvLIes

He obviously has not given you the ability to see it in yourself.

          • ThePantomimePrincessMargaret

I stand by every word I said.

          • TruthvLIes

And you need to deal with your anger before you burst a blood vessel.

          • carolyn

What anger. You are the angry one. You are the one dishing out insults and repressed anger against gay people. Sorry GAY MEN. Your obsession. On the thread about assisted suicide . . . .

          • TruthvLIes

Sorry but you have got it all wrong again. I love the company of gay me as I like a joke as much as the next person.

          • carolyn

The award for the best Freudian Slip goes to you “I love the company of gay me” Absolutely priceless. You made my day. Still laughing. ThePantomimePrincessMargaret
