Report: Secretary Mattis Recommends Allowing Transgenders to Serve in Military—If They Are Deployable

WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary James Mattis has recommended that transgenders be allowed to serve in the military as long as they are deployable, according to reports from several outlets.

Fox News states that Mattis made the recommendation to President Trump this week. It notes that Mattis recently rolled out a policy outlining that if a member of the military is not able to deploy with their unit for more than one year, with the exception of being wounded in combat, he or she will be released from the Armed Forces.

“We’ve come out with a policy that if you’re not deployable for a year or more you’re going to have to go somewhere else,” Mattis said.

Officials told Fox that the policy, along with the recent federal court ruling requiring the allowance of transgender service members, shaped Mattis’ thinking on the matter. He was to have submitted his recommendations to the president this week.

According to, spokesperson Dana White said in a Pentagon briefing on Thursday that Mattis’ focus was maintaining the “lethality” of the troops.

“This is a complex issue, and the secretary is taking his time to consider the information he’s been given,” she said. “It’s an important issue, and again, he sees all of his decisions through the lens of lethality.”

The matter has now raised the question of whether those who obtain so-called “sex-change” operations will be able to serve as recovery may be longer than one year. The military will likely not pay for such surgeries, reports state.

As previously reported, last July, President Trump announced his decision to reinstate the ban on transgenders in the military, advising that the issue is a distraction and would place a burden on the finances of the Armed Forces.

“After consultation with my generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. military,” he tweeted. “Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgenders in the military would entail. Thank you.”

Weeks later, five service members filed suit to challenge the ban, with the assistance of the National Center for Lesbian Rights and GLBTQ Legal Advocates and Defenders.

Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, appointed to the bench by then-President Bill Clinton, issued an injunction in favor of the complainants in October, writing in part, “On the record before the court, there is absolutely no support for the claim that the ongoing service of transgender people would have any negative effective on the military at all. In fact, there is considerable evidence that it is the discharge and banning of such individuals that would have such effects.”

However, while Kollar-Kotelly blocked Trump’s ban from being enforced, she also declined to place a restraining order on the government ban on paying for “sex reassignment” surgeries.

The U.S. Department of Justice requested a stay of the ruling, but Kollar-Kotelly opined that there was no reason for the enlistment not to proceed. Enlistment opened on Jan. 1.

President Trump is expected to issue a final decision on the matter, taking into account Mattis’ recommendations, next month.

As previously reported, Scripture states that those who turn God’s creation “upside down” are like the clay telling the potter that he doesn’t know what he’s doing.

Romans 9:20 says, “Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to Him that formed it, ‘Why hast thou made me thus?’”

Isaiah 29:16 also declares, “Surely your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter’s clay, for shall the work say of Him that made it, ‘He made me not?’ Or shall the thing framed say of Him that framed it, ‘He had no understanding?’”

Articles like this, that use scripture to try to justify a political ideology, is why we have separation of church and state. And for any of you that try claiming this is a CHRISTIAN country… explain to me why other religions don’t get a seat at the American table.

    • Amos Moses – He>i

“Articles like this, that use scripture to try to justify a political ideology”

first …. not a political “ideology” ….. and number 2 …. you cannot express WHY we have a supposed separation ….. and “C” …….. it is a NATION of Christians ….. and that is something completely different ………….. this nation was not created to “make a seat at the table” for every damnable heresy …………

      • TheKingOfRhye

I thought this was interesting, I found it from “gotquestions” which is a Christian site…good point, it’s basically the same thing I’ve tried to say to Christians who say they are opposed to separation of church of state:

A Christian should view the separation of
church and state to be a good thing. Those who wish to combine them
usually do so thinking that Christianity is the only religion that will
be state-sanctioned. The opposite is true. Once the state aligns itself
with religion, the floodgates will be opened for any and all religions
to take their place in government.

Also, I find it pretty funny whenever people here try to say this is “a Christian nation” or “a nation of Christians” or however they put it, when a lot of them spend much of the rest of their time talking about how certain Christians aren’t “true Christians”. I mean, quite a few people here will often say Catholics aren’t “true Christians”, right? OK then, you just took the largest single denomination off the list. That would actually make right around 50% of the population Christians, if you don’t count them. Take out a few more denominations, and you’re not the majority any more, maybe much less than the majority depending on who you don’t count. All of a sudden it’s looking like a not-so-Christian nation.

You can’t have it both ways, is what I’m saying.

        • Amos Moses – He>i

i agree with the quotation ….. but here is the issue ….. secularism does the exact same thing ….. and just because the secular world cannot recognize that a religion is present does not mean there is an absence of religion ……. just one that has taken the place of a preferred religion ……. and that religion is usually paganism ….. nature abhors a vacuum …. and nature WILL fill that vacuum whether we like the replacement or not …….. and the fact is if one is not chosen then one will be chosen by default ….. paganism …. secular means “absence of God” or “without God” …… but it is a myth ….. because God does not allow such foolishness ….. turn your back on the true God of the bible …… and He will see to it that a replacement fills the void …………. and it is never pretty ………….

this is not a christian nation ….. but it is SURELY a nation of christians and was founded BY christians ….. or at least what WAS once christianity ….. and many of those trying to wear that label today are not … and are really secularists in sheeps clothing …. there is a VENEER of christianity but not true christians …..

          • TheKingOfRhye

and that religion is usually paganism

But isn’t your definition of “paganism” pretty much anything outside of your particular brand of Christianity?

secular means “absence of God” or “without God”

When I use the word “secular”, I mean not relating to religion. Like a secular law would be one that doesn’t have any thing to do with any religion. A secular government is one that is not officially tied to any religion and doesn’t have biases towards any. (even though most of the people in it may be members of one religion).

          • Amos Moses – He>i

“I mean not relating to religion.” ….. myth …. does not exist ……….

“But isn’t your definition of “paganism” pretty much anything outside of your particular brand of Christianity?”

i do not know what you mean by “my particular brand” …… everything is related to religion …… there is no way to divorce it from religion …….. and the US government was never founded to be secular or void or unbiased toward religion …… that is post-modern interpretation and a myth …… paganism is really polytheism … and like Forrest Gumps box of chocolates …… you never know what you are going to get ……. child sacrifice as abortion …… homosexuality and all other forms of sexual depravity that destroys any culture, society and government …… and it goes on and on …… and all of that is Gods judgement for abandoning Him …… people want to think homomarriage is BRINGING judgement on this country ….. NOPE …… homomarriage IS Gods judgement on this nation for turning our backs to Him …………….

          • TheKingOfRhye

I think perhaps you, and maybe other people. have the wrong idea of what exactly separation of church and state really means. The word “church” in that phrase means an organized religious body. So, it doesn’t mean religious people aren’t welcome in government, or that those people can’t use their religious convictions in any way.

i do not know what you mean by “my particular brand”

I’ve encountered a lot of people who consider any Christians that don’t believe all the same things they do to be pagans, or Satanists, or what-have-you.

            everything is related to religion

Of course you would say that, when you use the loosest definition of religion possible in order to label such things as atheism as religions.

homomarriage IS Gods judgement on this nation for turning our backs to Him

Hmm, interesting. I guess you better not protest or fight against same-sex marriage in any way, then. Who are you to fight against God’s judgement, right?

          • LynnRH

Christians aren’t fighting against God’s judgement. Christians are doing what God expects them to do and that is to share God’s message of forgiveness, and the gift of salvation and eternal life BEFORE its too late for those who insist on loving their sins more than Him! There’s a huge difference there.

          • TheKingOfRhye

Hmm….do you think, like Amos, that same-sex marriage itself is “God’s judgement” and not one of things that would bring that judgement?

          • Amos Moses – He>i

no …. there is nothing in the constitution about “what exactly separation of church and state really means” … or even the phrase “separation of church and state” ……

          • TheKingOfRhye

I didn’t say anything about the Constitution. Whether the Constitution gives us separation (and it does – no less than Jefferson and Madison thought it did…but hey, what do they know? They’re only two of the founding fathers, and the guy who wrote the thing) is not what I was talking about. I was talking about what it means.

          • TheKingOfRhye

“The next time believers tell you that ‘separation
of church and state’ does not appear in our founding document, tell
them to stop using the word ‘trinity.’ The word ‘trinity’ appears
nowhere in the bible. Neither does Rapture, or Second Coming, or
Original Sin. If they are still unfazed (or unphrased), by this, then
            add Omniscience, Omnipresence, Supernatural,Transcendence, Afterlife,
Deity, Divinity, Theology, Monotheism, Missionary, Immaculate
            Conception, Christmas, Christianity, Evangelical, Fundamentalist,
Methodist, Catholic, Pope, Cardinal, Catechism, Purgatory, Penance,
Transubstantiation, Excommunication, Dogma, Chastity, Unpardonable Sin,
Infallibility, Inerrancy, Incarnation, Epiphany, Sermon, Eucharist, the
Lord’s Prayer, Good Friday, Doubting Thomas, Advent, Sunday School, Dead
Sea, Golden Rule, Moral, Morality, Ethics, Patriotism, Education,
Atheism, Apostasy, Conservative (Liberal is in), Capital Punishment,
Monogamy, Abortion, Pornography, Homosexual, Lesbian, Fairness, Logic,
Republic, Democracy, Capitalism, Funeral, Decalogue, or Bible.”

            – Dan Barker

          • Amos Moses – He>i

the two documents are not synonymous ….. and why would i accept “Dan Barker” as any expert on anything …. EVER ….. go ask “Dan Barker” about MONOGAMISH ……. so lets talk about what the CONSTITUTION does say:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”

now you want to embrace the part about “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion” but NOT the part about “or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;” …. WHY IS THAT ….

          • TheKingOfRhye

The right of free exercise of religion is just like any other right, it’s not an absolute right that takes precedence over all others. We have freedom of speech, for example, but you can get in trouble for certain kinds of speech. (libel/slander, hate speech, etc) We have the right to bear arms, but you can’t carry a gun anywhere you’d like. (at least if you’re not in military or law enforcement)

Wait, weren’t you JUST telling me something like that?

            Yeah, here:

does not include the right to disrupt traffic and the roads ……. and
so a permit is required ….. our rights do not include the right to
obstruct others to FREELY TRAVEL ….. or any other right in the
            exercise of our rights ……..

          • Amos Moses – He>i

“The right of free exercise of religion is just like any other right, it’s not an absolute right that takes precedence over all others. ”

it IS an absolute right …. OR …. it is NOT A RIGHT …….. “hate speech,” …. is SUBJECTIVE and HAS NO MEANING …….. and guess what …. that epithet NULLIFIES ANY SPEECH ….. you are a DOUBLE MINDED MAN with SELF CONTRADICTORY opinions ………….

          • TheKingOfRhye

it IS an absolute right …. OR …. it is NOT A RIGHT

So the right to bear arms is “NOT A RIGHT” then? Since, like I said, you are not allowed to carry a gun just anywhere.

          • Amos Moses – He>i

government cannot regulate it ….. even though they do ….. the constitution is the permit to carry ……… private establishments may ……. but in states with constitutional or open carry laws ….. YUP ….. you surely can ….. unless a private establishment does not want it ….. as is their right ……… and more states are moving to open carry ….. concealed carry is not the same ….. but i do not see the need for it to be regulated ……… the first part of the 2A i believe is about the military and its ownership of weapons of any sort ……. and the “militia” …… is every man who can carry … and that is the definition of that when the country was founded …….. 12 and 13 year olds fought in the revolution …..

          • TheKingOfRhye

But even in states with open or concealed carry, there are still some places you wouldn’t be able to bring a gun, like an airport. And besides that, there are restrictions on who can legally buy a gun in the first place. See my point?

          • Amos Moses – He>i

Airport is FEDERAL LAND ….. and although they should allow them …. as i said …… “government cannot regulate it ….. even though they do” …………. as far as the constitution is concerned …… they have no jurisdiction to do so …… again …… even as they do not follow it and do regulate or INFRINGE …… want fewer crazy people getting guns and shooting the unarmed ……. then ARM the innocent who are NOT crazy people …………. Hitler, Castro, Qadaffi, Stalin, Idi Amin, Mao Tse-tung, Pol Pot, Kim Jong-il, Kim Jong-un ……. they all agreed …… gun control works …… i guess you are in with your own company …………

          • TheKingOfRhye

I’ve not even making an argument for or against gun control here. I’m just saying, you can’t carry a gun everywhere. Right?

          • Amos Moses – He>i

and i am saying it is against the constitution ….. right ………..

          • Bob Johnson

            “Airport is FEDERAL LAND”

No, the land is owned by whichever airport authority operates the airport. The buildings usually belong to the airport authority. The airplanes and associated equipment belongs to the airlines. The only part Federal is the control tower and TSA scanners, n both cases cops enforcing Federal regulationsi.

          • Amos Moses – He>i

it is all generally under federal authority ….. or else why do you think the FAA has jurisdiction ….. and TSA ….. and numerous other agencies ………

          • Amos Moses – He>i

“Wait, weren’t you JUST telling me something like that?

            Yeah, here:

does not include the right to disrupt traffic and the roads ……. and
so a permit is required ….. our rights do not include the right to
obstruct others to FREELY TRAVEL ….. or any other right in the
            exercise of our rights ……..”

and so that is NOT PART of free speech …… there is no right to have a parade … there is no right to an audience ….. a parade would obstruct the free flow of traffic and thus REQUIRES A PERMIT …. and is not a part of free speech …… and because parade requires a disruption of others rights ….. it REQUIRES A PERMIT ….. the parade does …. NOT THE SPEECH …..

          • Sally Edwards

Whoa. That was a major zing.

            I wonder if he’ll notice.

          • LynnRH

You said that sooooo well Amos Moses! Thank you. 🙂

Do the facts that not all members of the military are Christian or that not all Christians agree with the writers interpretation of the bible escape you,

    • Amos Moses – He>i

does not matter if they agree “with the writers” ….. FYI … the WRITER was the Holy Spirit ….. and to not agree with that writer makes one an A-Theist …………. SO WHAT ……….. or did that escape you ……….

      • Nelson Kerr

Since we are speaking about a matter of secular law what citizens think does matter.

        • Amos Moses – He>i

A real Christian does not pick and choose the parts of the Bible he want to believe. It is all of ONE Truth. It is not here assist in sinful natures. It is here to instruct you to salvation and when you are save your eyes will be opened to the Truth of the sin of homosexuality, etc.

Try Romans chapt 1, vs. 18-32: Levitius Chapter 20, vs 13: Genisis Chapter 19: Timothy I chap. 1, vs 8-10, Jude 1 -7, Genisis Chapter 19. God says men left the use of the woman to perform that which is unseemly and also says men should not dress as women and women should not wear that which pertaineth to a man. It is All ONE TRUTH.

allowed to serve in the military as long as they are deployable,

Seeing as that is the standard for pretty much everyone else I see no issue with that. The only exception should be non combat specialists

  • Skywatcher57

This article has nothing to do with hating members of the LGBTQXYX or any other. It’s really all about the viability and acceptance of such a concept. Being a civilian, living 5 minutes away from a super base, built upon gravel from my grandfather’s gravel pit, I can logically reason and look ahead to see what can go wrong with this. I’m not suggesting others cannot do likewise.

As this issue is going to become very confusing and perplexing on “civvy street”, it is going to be even more so in a military setting where individuals have to sleep together and adhere to masculine protocols while on missions. From one day to the next, these idiots are allowed to decide before setting foot on the floor in the morning, as to what sex or orientation they want to be that day. When the mood passes and they come back to sanity, they are suddenly what their body dictates, but those around them knew them as being the opposite the day before, but today, don’t know how to receive them. This is insanity, and there is no shortage of that in our world now, as they engineer this social experiment at the cost of destroying innocent and normal lives.

Stats, even though they are behind, show that as many as 40% of transgenders commit suicide. When being deployed on a dangerous mission, it’s not safe to take someone of such a weak mind or disposition with you. It gets worse when they are on prescribed or illegal drugs! Who knows when they’re going to “snap” and how many innocent victims they may injure or take down with them? These people are mentally deranged and unstable, and have as much place in the military as they do on civvy street–none!

I have military friends, and they’re very perplexed because now, they no longer know how to address some of their superior officers! If they can change their sexual identity from one day to the next, what personal pronouns will they be addressed by? With political insanity kicking in, they can no longer be addressed as “Sir” or “Madame”. Now add to that awful scenario all these other identities and utter chaos kicks in; absolute madness! All this is being done to bring in the New World Order, which is stated on the American dollar bill. Their motto is, “New order out of chaos”. They have to create the chaos for it to come to full fruition, and they’re doing a mighty good job of it because most sane and normal people think this is all funny. It won’t be so funny when they are caught before the courts for “misspeaking”. It all begins with the military and trickles down from there to the rest of us.

In my country, Canada, three weeks ago, our military were stripped of their humanity. They are not allowed to visit any online sights that are known to hold to views or opinions of sexism, racism (which is anything these days!), misogyny, Xenophobia, homophobia, ableism (?), etc. Of course, Islamophobia was left out because these policies are designed to cater to the Muslims. These policies all gravitated around “faith”. Never before in the history of our country has faith ever been an issue in the Canadian Armed Forces until the insurgence of militant “refugees” whom our Prime Minister is now allowing to enter our CAF!

The were also told they cannot attend any organizations or hang around with people whom they know hold to any of these “extremist” values. That means they cannot attend a church, local social club, etc. They have effectively been stripped of their humanity and their rights and freedoms as people. So, you see, our military that is supposed to be there to protect us is under huge attack from above, within its own country. They will soon be out the door and jobless as military-designed robots with AI will soon replace them, killing at will and indiscriminately…even those who used to protect us! Come soon, Lord Jesus! We truly do not belong in this world anymore, and I’m grateful that we are merely pilgrims passing through!

This article has nothing to do with hating members of the LGBTQXYX or any other.

You could have fooled me; you just called them idiots, mentally deranged, unstable, and insane.

Obviously you don’t know much about transgender people. They generally don’t want to “flip back and forth” as you seem to be suggesting, they want to live as one gender, the one that doesn’t reflect their sex at birth. If any of them switch back and forth, it’s most likely because they’ve been forced to.

Demented, warped people wanting so desperately to be told that they are normal.
