A Christian doctor in England is facing disciplinary proceedings for sharing his faith with a patient.
Dr. Richard Scott has worked at Bethesda Medical Center in Margate, Kent for 28 years, and has never received a mark on his record. However, in 2010, when a patient filed a complaint against him for talking about Jesus, the General Medical Council launched an investigation.
The case has lingered for two years as the complainant has reportedly been unwilling to talk about the matter. He states that it was his mother who urged him to file the complaint against the doctor.
“Christians are getting hammered in the workplace,” Scott told ITV News. “We need to fight back because we’ve got something wonderful to offer patients.”
While Scott is being represented by the Christian Legal Centre, the General Medical Council has decided to hold his upcoming hearing in secret, and neither his attorney nor members of the public may attend.
“I am being denied a proper hearing, and unless this case is finally decided in my favor, I will be seeking further legal advice as to a judicial review of the GMC’s handling of its disciplinary procedures,” he said. “[T]he amateur and unjust way this trial is being conducted is an insult to me and to every member of the medical profession.”
Scott has shared his faith with patients at the hospital throughout his tenure without incident.
