Gwen Wilkerson, the wife of the late David Wilkerson, has passed into eternity.
Wilkerson died Thursday morning according to a statement released by the family. Although the cause of her death is not named, the statement does cite that she had struggled with cancer on numerous occasions throughout her life.
“[She]went to be with Christ with great peace and even anticipation,” her children Greg, Gary, Bonnie and Debbie wrote. “She had an amazing resolve and unshakable faith…”
Wilkerson’s husband, David, was killed last April in a head-on car crash in East Texas. Gwen was with her husband, and sustained serious injuries that kept her in a wheelchair for a time. Wilkerson was the founder of World Challenge Ministries, and founded Times Square Church in New York City. His best-selling book, The Cross and the Switchblade, outlined his calling from God in the late 1950’s to minister to drug addicts and gang members, which eventually developed into the ministry Teen Challenge.
“Ever since [Dad passed away] Mom has longed to go to be with Christ in heaven. We are comforted knowing she has entered her reward,” the statement outlined.
Wilkerson was 81 years old. She and her husband had been married for 58 years.
