Trump Mocks Schwarzenegger, Jokingly Asks for ‘Prayer’ for ‘Apprentice’ Ratings at National Prayer Breakfast

(ABC News) — President Trump jokingly requested prayer for Arnold Schwarzenegger as he addressed attendees at this morning’s National Prayer Breakfast.

“They hired a big movie star, Arnold Schwarzenegger, to take my place, and we know how that turned out,” Trump said at the top of his remarks.

He continued, “The ratings went right down the tubes. It’s been a total disaster. And Mark [Burnett] will never, ever bet against Trump again, and I want to just pray for Arnold, if we can, for those ratings.”

Schwarzenegger, a former governor of California who earned fame for his action movie roles, was hired to replace Trump as host of “The Celebrity Apprentice.” The president is listed as executive producer of the show.

During his speech, Trump pointed out the various religions represented in the room, citing “unity” and “equality” in the eyes of God.

“The people in this room come from many, many backgrounds. You represent so many religions and so many views. But we are all united by our faith, in our creator and our firm knowledge that we are all equal in His eyes. We are not just flesh and bone and blood, we are human beings with souls. Our republic was formed on the basis that freedom is not a gift from government, but that freedom is a gift from God,” Trump declared.

“But most importantly, today I wanna thank the American people. Your faith and prayers have sustained me and inspired me through some very, very tough times. All around America, I have met amazing people whose words of worship and encouragement have been a constant source of strength. What I hear most often as I travel the country are five words that never, ever fail to touch my heart, that’s ‘I am praying for you.’ I hear it so often, I am praying for you, Mr. President.”

Trump also vowed to repeal an IRS rule that states that pastors who endorse candidates from the pulpit risk losing their tax-exempt status.

“I will get rid of and totally destroy the Johnson Amendment and allow our representatives of faith to speak freely and without fear of retribution,” Trump noted during his remarks.

According to Scripture, true unity in faith only comes through Jesus Christ for “[t]here is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5), which Jesus Christ made clear: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.” (John 14:6)

Has he prayed the sinner’s prayer yet? if not, he still believes that his sins are done away with because of his good deeds and not asking God. We need to keep praying for him so he can find Christ first.

    • Amos Moses

saying the sinners prayer does not make one saved …….. we do not find Christ first, second or third …. or ever …. Christ finds us ……..

      • Emmanuel

Amos, you know what I mean. He needs to repent and ask for forgiveness.

        • Amos Moses

but that is controlled by Christ ….. if he has not been given the gift of repentance ….. no amount of “prayer” is going to fix it …. look, i think we agree on a number of things …. but your use of that phrase is off ……….. it is not a big deal ….

          • Emmanuel

I got you, I will use the proper phrase from now on.

        • The Skeptical Chymist

Wouldn’t repentance also require him to ask forgiveness of those he has harmed? Wouldn’t he need to apologize to Obama for his years of promoting the fake birther controversy; to Hillary for claiming she is the actual founder of ISIS; to Ted Cruz for his comments about his wife; to Ted Cruz for his comments about his father; the list goes on and on.

There is not one ounce of remorse in Mr. Trump. In his own words, he hasn’t asked forgiveness because there’s nothing he needs forgiveness for. He lacks all semblance of empathy.

i agree with you and that is why I laugh when I see in sitting in church or selecting Christian judges and please the christian base. This man is not saved, repented and needs to come to Christ.
Also, the churches and Christians need to stop praising this heathen. The church is no better than him if we look up to this guy for morality and guidance. The church needs to wake up and see how bad we have gotten.

No, Trump made a mockery of prayer.

  • antifasciste

In that meeting, he also claimed he would “destroy” the Johnson Amendment…. further evidence he has no idea how government works.

American conservatives and American liberals have no common ground.

    • johndoe

We’re all Americans and human beings

      • Amos Moses

that does not give us any common ground with those who promote depravity …………..

        • johndoe

The depravity issue is only your personal opinion

          • Grace Kim Kwon

American liberals demand mankind to become sick depraved. Accepting the culture’s demand is same as bowing to Nazism. Stop the atrocities. Americans are moral and not hedonists only when they adhere to Christianity.

          • johndoe

There are no atrocities being perpetuated by the liberals anymore than conservatives. I don’t think you have a good understanding of how America works. No theocracy here….never has been…never will be…..

          • Grace Kim Kwon

You are wrong. Today’s liberals force infanticide and homosexuality. America is forever Christian theocracy, created by the Christians for the civilized Christian happiness!!

  • The Skeptical Chymist

Why not list Schwartzenegger’s reply: Why don’t we switch places, so the American people can get a good night’s sleep? (Paraphrased)

The President Donald Trump Show…Reality TV’s newest show.

  • Croquet_Player

I am not a religious person, but I was astonished and dismayed by his performance. If nothing else, a “National Prayer Breakfast” should be a warm, yet solemn occasion in which people of many faiths come together to pray, celebrate, acknowledge, and reflect on the meaning that faith has in their lives. He chose to make a rambling speech about ratings for a TV “reality” show, and attack the new host in particular. Was that supposed to be funny? It wasn’t funny, it was a ghastly farce, lacking in all propriety, and a national embarrassment.
