The New Taboo: More People Regret Sex Change and Want to ‘Detransition’, Surgeon Says

(National Post) Five years ago, Professor Miroslav Djordjevic, the world-leading genital reconstructive surgeon, received a patient at his Belgrade clinic. It was a transgender patient who had surgery at a different clinic to remove male genitalia—and had since changed their mind.

That was the first time Djordjevic had ever been contacted to perform a so-called “reversal” surgery. Over the next six months, another six people also approached him, similarly wanting to reverse their procedures. They came from countries all over the Western world, Britain included, united by an acute sense of regret. At present, Djordjevic has a further six prospective people in discussions with his clinic about reversals and two currently undergoing the process itself; reattaching the male genitalia is a complex procedure and takes several operations over the course of a year to fully complete, at a cost of some euros 18,000 (pounds 16,000).

Those wishing the reversal, Djordjevic says, have spoken to him about crippling levels of depression following their transition and in some cases even contemplated suicide. “It can be a real disaster to hear these stories,” says the 52-year-old. And yet, in the main part, they are not being heard.

/SMH ….. as we have been saying ….

  • The grieving thing about this story is that, like life, it can boil down to one thing: emptiness.

What initially brought fulfilling satisfaction (e.g. trans-surgery) now brings regret. Temporal things and pleasures cannot “fill” the vacuum of one’s eternal spirit and soul.

A relationship with God can fill that vacuum. And…like a vacuum…God will also clean up a person on the inside; provided that they desire and want to be clean.

Eternity is a priceless investment, folks. And I’m a witness to His goodness.

It was pure foolishness to allow people to go down this rabbit hole. God made you who you are and nothing you do can change that. This is more of liberal thinking they are in control of themselves and that an individual can decide what sex they are.

Yes, how dare anyone to want to live a life that is fulfilling to them, rather than adhere to the role they have been born into? “Pursuit of Happiness”? What anti-American claptrap is that?

      • Amos Moses – He>i

‘pparently they aint so “fulfilled” ………….

And God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Adam or Eve and Eve, just saying!

Unfortunately, some people have to learn the hard way.

The picture used for this article is of a drag queen, not a transgender woman. There is a difference. A drag queen is a man in a generally outlandish and exaggerated costume performing on a stage. If this article is about normal, everyday transgender women, it would be more appropriate to use a picture of a normal, everyday transgender woman.

As for the content of this article, the doctor interviewed performs genital reconstruction for transgender men and women. This doctor performs surgeries on men and women to help match their physical bodies to their gender identity. He is strict about his patients receiving the proper mental health evaluations and recommendations before helping a patient transition their gender. He is not saying that transgender people shouldn’t be permitted to have surgery. Not at all.

In this article, he appears to be expressing concern that other doctors are performing gender affirming surgeries without the same care he takes for his patients’ long-term well-being. He appears to be pushing for some sort of medical reform to put in place strict requirements for performing gender affirming surgeries that include extensive mental health evaluations. I can’t say I disagree with this.

Yes, some people who aren’t transgender make the mistake of having gender reassignment surgery. Walt Heyer comes to mind. This does not mean that transgender people don’t exist or that they shouldn’t be permitted to take steps to closer match their physical bodies to their gender identity. It simply means that doctors should require more than a down-payment before altering a patient’s genitalia.

I agree with every word. The only thing I would add is reputable physicians don’t begin transitioning with surgery. Rather, they start with counseling, and then hormone therapy. Many require the person to live as the gender with which they identify for a certain period before any surgery is performed.

“I agree with every word. ”

color me stunned ….. NOT ….

“The picture used for this article is of a drag queen, not a transgender woman. There is a difference.”

yeah ….. nooooo ………… and you are making a lot of presuppositions based on a photo ….. i would classify that as “PREJUDICE” ……….

      • Michael C

you are making a lot of presuppositions based on a photo

no. I googled it. It’s an Italian drag performer who goes by the stage-name Lorella Sukkiarini.

Knowledge will be your friend if you let it.

        • Amos Moses – He>i

sure …. it may well be ….. but that does not tell you everything ….. and your lack of any true knowledge is your enemy ………..

        • Etranger

“Knowledge will be your friend if you let it.”

Beautiful sentence. Scary how resistant folks are here to knowledge!

          • Amos Moses – He>i

Scary how resistant many here are to the TRUTH …………..

          • Etranger

Yes – when michael C presented you with the TRUTH you resisted. And yes, that is effing scary.

          • Amos Moses – He>i

M C has no truth ……… he rejects it ……….. so no ………

          • Ira Pistos

Michael resists knowledge/reality by fixating on the knot on a tree limb while denying the forest.

          • InTheChurch

I’m stealing this statement. Awesome statement

        • Jerome Horwitz

But you are missing the point: Who or what it is lacks relevance. Drag queens and trannys are not mutually exclusive.

    • Mr Cleats

How could you possibly know it’s a drag queen?

      • Michael C

How could you possibly know it’s a drag queen?

None of the transgender women I’ve ever met do their make-up like that. There might be some out there but they’d definitely be in the extreme minority. Every transgender woman I’ve met does their make-up just like other women.

From everything I know about transgender men and women combined with everything I know about the drag performance style lead me to believe that this was a photo of a drag queen and not a transgender woman.

Being that I do my best to not make assumptions, I googled it. My suspicions were confirmed when I discovered that it’s actually a photo of an Italian drag performer who goes by the stage-name Lorella Sukkiarini.

When we try to go against our DNA.

  • Etranger

Oh my, truth has been deleted from the comments section I see! Interesting site.

  • Sin always has a price and regret is high on that list.

Makes one wonder just HOW do they afford such operations? Hmmm….

  • Trilemma

As with any surgery to change a person’s appearance, there is always a small percentage that regret having the surgery whether it’s a face lift, breast augmentation, or gender reassignment surgery. The articles I’ve read indicate about 2% of those getting gender reassignment surgery end up regretting it.

  • Amos Moses – He>i

buyers remorse …. bought the lie …. now comes the remorse ……..

  • Garden of Love

Liberals suppress stories that don’t fit their narratives. They claim there are no ex-gays (which isn’t so) and that children raised by gays are all just fine (definitely not true).

    • COPLEYCAR

I HAD A FRIEND BACK IN THE EARLY 80’S WHOM WAS A SEX CHANGE, WAS A MAN(DIDN’T KNOW WHEN I MET HER) DATED MEN THEN BECAME A LESBIAN SEX CHANGE THEN COMMITTED SUICIDE. WHEN SOMEONE THAT IS ANOREXIC THEY SEE A HEAVY PERSON IN THE MIRROR BUT THEY ARE SKIN A BONES, THEY PUT THEM IN MENTAL HEALTH FACILITY, THEN WHY IS IT NOT THE SAME WHEN A GIRL OR GUY LOOKS IN THE MIRROR AND SUPPOSED SEES THE OPPOSITE SEX? STRANGE ISN’T IT?

  • KonCern

I wonder how long before Bruce Jenner makes hi regret public? at least he is smart enough not to have operation to cut off the pecker. Smart guy…
