(Faithwire) – Brandt Jean, the brother of a black man who was shot dead by Amber Guyger, a white Dallas Police officer who said she mistook the victim’s apartment for her own, forgave his brother’s killer and hugged her in front of the courtroom Wednesday.
As some people outside of the courtroom reacted angrily to the 10-year sentence given to Amber Guyger, 31, for killing Botham Jean in his own apartment, believing the sentence too lenient, Jean’s brother was allowed by Judge Tammy Kem to address her directly from the witness stand.
Brandt Jean told Guyger that he thinks his brother would have wanted her to turn her life over to Christ and that if she can ask God for forgiveness, she will get it.
“I want the best for you,” he said. “That’s exactly what Botham would want you to do, and the best would be to give your life to Christ.”
