Street Preacher Assaulted in Seattle’s ‘Autonomous Zone,’ Dragged Through Street

A number of videos surfacing on social media show a street preacher being assaulted in what has come to be labeled Seattle’s “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone,” and in one short video clip appears to show the preacher being dragged unconscious through the street.

The unidentified preacher can be seen being surrounded by a number of people while speaking on one of the streets closed by the activists, assaulted, and at one point kissed against his will on the face.

The “autonomous zone,” which been taken over by Antifi and BLM activists and supporters, has been illegally blocked off by those who want to do away with police, and who are now encamped in the six block area. The area includes Seattle Police Department’s burned out East Precinct.

In one video clip, the street preacher is confronted by a man wearing a red handkerchief over his face, stating, “You’ll die out here, bro. You want to die out here?”

In another video posted on Twitter, a man can be seen wrapping his arms around the street preacher’s neck and pulling him from behind.

Another posted video shows the street preacher appearing to be unconscious and being dragged through the street by two men in front of a crowd of people.

In what appears to be an earlier video, an unidentified man tried to dissuade others who were headed toward the preacher, stating, “You are not the police! … You cannot control anybody in this area.”

Following the events, in a subsequent video posted online, the street preacher directed a message to President Trump and stated that he supports the president “100 percent” and called Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan a “complete failure.” He asked the commander-in-chief to take back the city.

“This place needs to be shut down immediately,” he asserted. “We need our country back.”

Editor’s Note:
A previous version of this article had incorrectly identified the street preacher as Matthew Weirsema. According to his Facebook page, Weirsema, who is also a street preacher, was also present in Seattle this past week and looks similar to the man in the videos.
